@@clansome Eddie drank too much, alcohol abuse affects everything about a person. He didn't get along with David either. He only hung tight with his brother, Alex. If it wasn't for Valerie coming into his life when she did, who knows, but she did help him in ways that only love can, then when his son was born, he found happiness. How do I know? I knew them and refuse to disclose secrets, that was a long time ago. It was Ed's drinking that made him that way, otherwise, he was a very sweet, kind person.

I wish the Sammy H version had never broken up and that he sucked it up and started doing a few more DLR cuts to help keep fans happy or whatever. Leaving DLR to his own devices would not have been so bad. The music, certainly did not change for the better when they re-formed again as DLR was going downhill with his performances IMHO, the SH version would have been better musically, save for the sorrowful passing of EVH. Again, IMHO!!

It’s not you. They do sound better live because they’re a REAL BAND who played the songs on their albums lived. Well when you’re a musician and you keep playing a song over and over you get more comfortable playing it and thus better at it. When they’re playing it in a studio they’re thinking about it because they want to get a good recording of it. Live they’re not thinking about it and just playing it. Thus live it’s them in their purest and best form. Especially if you saw them later in the tour. At the beginning of the tour they’re not near as polished on the songs as they are at the end of the tour. Look at them live in 1995. The Pensacola show on MTV was the first show of the tour. Then look at the Toronto pay-per-view show that was towards the end. As good as they Pensacola show is they’re on another level for the Toronto show. =\/|-|= FOREVER!!

technically, it depends on the track, but in general, yes. i would say recreating runnin' with the devil and ain't talkin' bout love live are very very difficult to match the VH 1 tracks. mostly everything else live is insane i was at the LIve without a Net concert....absolute pandomonium. the best eddie ever was was on the 1995 tour. he was completely sober and a maestro on stage. like..."you couldn't believe how well he played" vituosity. i don't what anyone says, if you weren't LIVE at the 1995 shows, you missed Ed's best performances of all time. he even talked about it on a radio station in NYC during the tour

I'm a Sammy guy but I also acknowledge that this band would probably not exist had it been for David Lee Roth. And David Lee Roth laid the foundation of this band. And was at least responsible for the first half of its popularity from his presence alone. Such a strong influence that I don't think years later he should be remotely discredited or soon do have taken a backseat to anybody. And believe me when I tell you I love Sammy about 300 times more than David Lee Roth

These 4 guys were the perfect combination of vocalists, lyricists and instrumentalists. To me, Sammy was the link that took VH from great into the stratosphere of greatest. I saw many concerts through the years and I was always amazed at how awesome their live shows sounded. They are by far one of the greatest rocks bands of all time. Never to be forgotten. Iconic music for the ages. RIP Eddie.

IMO, this is when they were at the top of their game, this was the PEAK of it. Everything was hitting, they were everywhere, concerts were sold out, Eddie was better and more polished than ever and Michael Anthony's backup vocals were the perfect gravy to compliment Sammy's raspy style.

Well , one of Eddie's greatest songs. But he may never be seen again. He was cremated , not frozen. He had plenty of money but for whatever reason he was cremated. Nothing remains of Van Halen but audio and video recordings and the friends Eddie left behind.

This is a truly powerful and heartfelt performance of ‘When It’s Love’ ~ very organic and heartfelt in its execution. Evidently they loved performing this song live, simply because it was an audience favourite, and a song the band loved and was proud of. Very easily understood, due to the fact that it has all a timeless ballad needs, and the band became aware of this from a very early point on tour playing the song live for the first time. The song grew stronger and stronger over the years live, and this video is truly and undoubtedly proof to fact.
