They are my favourite fish in my nano tank they have huge characters and are like having a pet dog. Mine was super shy at first but now they come and see what I'm up too for the first half hour when my lights turn on. Great fish 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I just got my Sparkling Gourami. Cutest little bunch ever. Full of energy and intelligence. They were shy at first now they spawn at my arrival. I feed them frozen blood worms that they love and constantly search for.

Favorite nano fish by far. They have plenty of personality. They even come up to the tank when I show up. Can be quite the aggressive with each other however. Heavy plants and hiding spaces are a must imo.

I finally got my 29G nano tank up & running, and a group of sparkling gouramis was one of the first fish I got for it. I love these little guys. Along with being beautiful to look at, they're not shy at all and come over to the side of the tank to see what I'm up to.

I'm really interested in this species but after doing some research I found that there are two other species that are very similar. Could you do a video on the difference between Trichopsis vittata, Trichopsis schalleri, and Trichopsis pumila? I read some reviews that vittata and shalleri are more aggressive versions. I think it would be good to know what differences to look for to make sure we get the right species in our aquariums. :)

Very cool fish, they really glimmer as they turn into the light from a grey into that bright blue, in person their eyes are like little gems glowing up. One of my fav fish!

I use to keep mine with cardinal tetras. They would breed on the roof of a cave all the time. Didn't have luck raising them beyond wrigglers - didn't know how in those days. I had them in the bedroom and would hear them croaking all the time. My favorite gourami!

I'm so excited that my Sparkling Gourami are spawning!! So unexpected as I just got a second one last week. Eggs are under the sponge filter. I don't know if the babies will survive as I don't have another tank.

Those are beautiful gouramis. so they act kinda like the angel fish. That would be nice in real life for adults, the male taking over and rearing the babies, lol. @4:39 the piece on the back of the decoration, looks like a snakehead. Great video.

I was planning on some neon or cardinal tetras (depending on temp range I end with based off which catfish I choose) in my future 20 gallon planted tank- which currently houses 2 RCS (ha!). Now I'm kind of considering these... very interesting!

These will probably fit whatever temp range your catfish need. As long as the tank isn't too stocked you could possibly get a group of 6 or 8 in there over time, they cover a lot of ground so even with few fish I find they fill the tank pretty well :)

I absolutely love these guys. About a year ago, I got back into fishkeeping after a long hiatus. And I have to say I think I know more now than I did in all the other years combined! But, I find that with so much more valuable information online that just wasn't available in the past, I still have a lot to learn. I've had about 6 nano tanks up and running over this past year and at one point had a sexed pair in a 2.5 gallon aquarium, great little sponge filter I love, the Caf10, and a low wattage heater. I was lucky enough that one of the gals at my LFS really knew about the finnage shape differentiating males and females. They lived happily together, spawning, and croaking away...until, I think I killed them. I would love your feedback here about my thoughts on why it happened. I think that as they are "somewhat" shy and stress easily, at least the female in my case, that during my PWCs, it was just tooo traumatic. It's just tooo tiny a tank with nowhere to really escape from the giant siphon hose demon coming at you from above. I believe my water changes caused such stress, that their immune systems were compromised. I was unfamiliar with whatever it may have been, one had a deep mustard yellowish area near their gill, in hindsight maybe a fungus? (I don't think I either treated early enough as she was hiding alot and made it difficult to view her/or possibly treated with wrong anitbiotic). They died with in a day or two of each other fairly quickly. I believe they really needed a larger tank with more room to hide away securely from the siphon.Would that be a fair assessment? I have a 5.5 gal ready to go for them when my LFS gets them in again as the last time they came in they were very young and stressed so I opted out. With a small school of Ember Tetras as companions for a pair or trio. And hiding places on each side of the aquarium this time. Can you give me any thoughts on keeping them healthy/stress free/safe/secure :) I have no real swings in water parameters in any of my nanos (thank goodness for small favors). And thanks again, if you are able to take the time to get back on any of this.

+Carla Pappalardo it's possible they aged out too. A lot of small fosh have prettybshorrnlife soans, and if you get them sexed they are well into maturity

Thanks so much for responding! Yes will have to watch for short lives; I become way too attached. Forgot to say here that I only had them about a month. I think I stressed them and the tank wasn't as mature as it could have been. I will continue to look for research on them and look for more of your videos. Thanks again!

Hello Rachel, once again a great review. I once had 12 sparkling gouramis that were so shy that they would hide away out of sight. I put a young Male Betta in with them (just so I didn't have to stare into a seemingly empty tank) and to my surprise the gouramis came out into the open and we're much more confident!

Sparkling gourami are not the ones that croak. It is the slightly larger species trichopsis vittata. It's a common mistake as they look very similar, there is really just a slight color difference and then the larger size. I ADORE YOUR VIDEOS. I got into the hobby a decade ago to help with my heroin addiction. I'm no longer sneaking home with bags of drugs but bags of fish :)

I find them to be opportunistic and they tend to shoal with other fish. They follow my dwarf puffer all over the tank (which is heavily planted). They would snatch the bloodworms from the dwarf puffer if its not quick enough. I would say they are efficient hunters on their own and searching through the entire tank. The pair I have had eliminated the daphnia pulex for the the entire tank to feed every fish in the tank.

I'm setting up a heavily planted fish bowl that holds something around 10 gallons (probably would only fill to 8 gallons since we need to leave some space for them at the top). How many sparkling gouramis would it be safe to stock? I've read some people say that you wouldn't be able to have two or more males in such a small area, but other don't mention any restrictions. Is having a female betta sorority just as bad as having 5 sparkling Gouramis ? what makes the 2 ideas different. I have 2 sparkling gouramis and I am planning on adding 3 more. The 2 sparkling gouramis are good with each other but they do the fight dance regularly but they don't nip each other's fins.

is there any territorial behavior that would suggest the sex of these fish? after watching this video I decided on a pair of these for a center piece to one of my nano tanks. one is definitely a male as he had some red edging to his fins. the other I picked out was much less colorful and about 1/2 to 3/4 his size. since adding to the tank last night the smaller one has claimed a piece of spider wood and will chase the larger one away. the smaller one has already developed more color but not as much blue sheen as the big one...

Since they like low to no flow, do you think they're unsuitable for a Spec V? The pump on that can get fairly strong.
