So here's the thing about the business side of things. It all depends on how well Mike negotiates on his end. Mike is incentivized to keep the operation going for as long as possible to hopefully get back all the money the Feds took . By overpaying and having a large overhead shrinking profits take home of Walter and Jessie enough that it's still worth cooking but not enough that they decided to stop entirely before Mike's people can retain their money. This isn't spoilers that they mention in the show and should be obvious to Detectives Pudgy and Spartan. Walter is on to Mike and Jesse is clueless as ever but he's happy right now. He doesn't care and is forced on just living life to concern himself with any of this. That makes Jesse sloppy and open to being taken advantage. Again, I want to remind you guys how no one in this series is a good person including Jesse. He only uses his friends to either sell to them or run business. Otherwise they were useless to him. Remember Jesse the one that tried selling to all the rehab people and his friends had to tell him no. Walter didn't put him up to that and even tried to prevent Jesse from stealing from Gus' batch that he didn't need to sell anymore. Jesse dropped his friends and even made it into an issue which is how the whole separation and killing Combos murders happened. I know the writing makes it easy to forget but Jesse is still a Meth/ Drug dealer. He's not trying to use his money to rebuild society. He's not even using his money to clean it and start a real business. There's a story of a Mafia run pizzeria in Long Island that was a money laundering front. That one day someone out of town didn't know not buy from their Pizzeria and came in and ordered. They made such good pizza that news got around they didn't need to launder money anymore and it was confirmed by the FBI that all the profits they ended up making was legit even though originally it was a front. They literally turned their life around by making good pizza. It was in 1985 and they interviewed one of the Mafia members, Louis Piancone. THAT'S a good guy. He went from hurting people to helping people. Jesse is still hurting people by cooking Meth. He's still a drug dealer. Just because he doesn't care about paying off legacy cost doesn't make him a good guy. Those guys are going to rat on Mike and Mike will Rat on Walter. The easiest thing to do is have them all killed. Walter is right, it's indirect blackmail. Mike took it upon himself to promise to make them whole. Walter nor Jesse agreed to do so before this episode. Again, you guys are falling for basic narrative traps that Good Detectives should be able to understand all points. They're all corrupt. All bad guys. Mike decided to sneakily add in surge charges that Walter wouldn't notice and call him out on. Again, think about it like a business. It's like Patreon took more of your profits from your videos to pay off all TV series you're watching for their cut of the content you're using and then telling you "Too bad, what do you think this is YT? Just because you opened your own streaming site doesn't make you YT." If you were in Etsy or warehouse it's stolen wages coming from the workers cut instead the business end of coverage. Mike's "deal" should have come from Mike's pay but they all did the "kind" things and split the cost as a business end. Remember, Jesse and Walter were starting this without Mike and it was only after his own people started killing each other over money did he decide to join the business.

@submandave1125 Жыл бұрын
I read it darker. Jessie knew Walter was asking about Andrea to assess how much of a risk to the operation she might become. That's why Jessie told him that while she of course knew he was doing something that he hadn't told her anything and she didn't really know what they did. He wanted Walter to know Andrea wasn't a threat. And that's why he dumped her, to protect her from Walter.

Season 5 basically shows was Walt was all along….a bad guy. Throughout the first four seasons the audience keeps hoping for redemption and that he will be a good guy in the end but the ending of season 4 reveals the dark truth
@hemlock39910 ай бұрын
Walt really, really took it to heart when Gus told him that a man provides for his family, even when he isn't appreciated, respected or loved for it. From that point on, Walter embraced that principle. This is a form of toxic masculinity, and toxic masculinity is a major theme of the series (Hank also wrestles with some related issues). People often laud those who place their family above others, but don't seem to appreciate the extent to which doing so often conflicts with justice, fairness & even basic decency in dealing with those beyond the family. I'm not saying that Walter never acts more purely selfishly or out of ego / pride, but we all do that at times, and Walter is not much different in that regard, although he certainly has loosened the moral limits on his selfish actions as his personality adapted to his life circumstances. It's kind of funny that reactors seldom heap anywhere near as much scorn on Gus as they do on Walt, even though if anything, Gus is more ruthless. Gus didn't give a shit that some of his dealers employed a kid as a hitman, and only ordered his dealers to stop using kids to resolve a business problem. Gus resolves many of his business problems with murder, without giving it a second thought. Everyone also likes Mike (including me), but a big part of Mike's job is to intimidate, beat and murder people for money. And when he did so at Gus's behest, he knew that Gus typically was simply eliminating a risk to his operation, like when Mike was going to murder Walter because Walter had stepped out of line while trying to protect Jesse. Mike is not a "good guy" over all. You guys are riding Walt hard for not being nicer to Jesse. Overall, I like Jesse better than Walt, but I don't think that Jesse has fully proven himself to be reliable in Walt's eyes. Let's not forget that it wasn't very long ago that Walt killed two of Gus's drug dealers to save Jesse from being killed by them, all because Jesse was (rightly) angry over their treatment of a kid he was close to and didn't have any suitable way to handle the situation, and this put *everyone* in Walt's life in extreme danger, and made it necessary for Walt to find a way to kill Gus. Jesse is a source of danger, especially when he gets close to a kid. More than anything, I think that Jesse wants - needs - to be loved, but his line of work is too dangerous for Jesse to be in a relationship. Jesse needs to get out of the business. You also ride Walt hard for being very manipulative...and he is. Unfortunately, manipulation is one of the few tactics at Walt's disposal that allows him to reduce the need to resort to violence, because in the world he's navigating, violence is always one mistake away. Anyhow, I enjoy your reactions. Cheers!

It’s fine to demonise Walt but many fans will blame him for every single thing that goes wrong whilst giving others, mainly Jesse, a completely free pass despite having many moral shortcomings himself. The thing about Walter White is, even back then, he was never a good guy, he always had an egotistical complex. Vince Gilligan, the creator, revealed Back when he was at gray matter, him and Gretchen sparked a romance and were gonna get married. But Walter met her family who was rich, he felt inferior around them, and chose to leave, pretty much showing he chose to stay poor till he turned 50. Plus he made it out like they stole his research when in all reality he wanted the company to be all him and his only, never acknowledging their part in founding the company. and possibly push Elliot and Gretchen out of the picture. If he would've stayed, he would've whined and filed a lawsuit to be sure it was his company solely and have all the power. Personally I never liked Walter from the beginning because of the choices he made, I like the other characters more.
@robbiemedica2652 Жыл бұрын
Most people have traits like that. You do a disservice to how everyone has a capacity for evil and how Walter illustrates that by taking Walter's worst early but small evil traits as evidence that he was always a villain. This is what I don't understand. It was obvious early on what an AH walt was and everyone kept making excuses for him and inventing some good side he didn't have. I guess people will always hope the Protagonist is a good guy. But this is why I don't watch the show, I just watch my favorite reactors. If there is no one to root for, there are no stakes in the show. It's hard to get into it when you could care less if the main character dies or not.
@mappes1 Жыл бұрын
@@wordpainting3 i think it is a bit more layered, at least for me. I think they both kinda explain it themselves at the end. First, one is kinda on board when one watches it of what walter does. His brother in law-enforcement is a dick, a bit abusive and a hypocrite (so the law is set as being antagonistic from the start). Walt is dying and broke. Walt has no friends and nobody on his side. He is a doormat. You want to see him rise above where he is (the gutter). Then, secondly, he enters a criminal world. So if one is on board with him, you are also to a certain degree on board with him doing some questionable things, because that is the field he entered. And third, he is not a perfect human being, he has flaws. But I think it takes a while before it settles with the audience that his flaws are actually the thing that drive him completly, and not just partially. Now in S5 when there is no outside threat and the whole business is his for the taking, that becomes obvious. When it starts, we see a very timid person who comes out lf his shell. It just takes a while amd the right cinditions to see that what comes out of the shell is not particularly good.

Your reactions to breaking bad make my day💜💜

Walt has been bad since he left Jane to die. That was his turning point because she was innocent and he could have saved her. His downward spiral didn't start there, but that cemented his fall.

@@floridaman.813 Jane was a drug addict, she wasn't a murderer. In comparison with Walter, who had already killed someone, she was innocent.

@@floridaman.813 In comparison with Walt. Walt killed two people in season one, he let Jane die in season two and then went on to kill directly or indirectly over 300 people. Compared to Walt, Jane was innocent. She was an addict who fell back into drugs because of Jessie, she just escalated it. She wasn't an angel, but she wasn't in the same league as Walt.

The main reason Walter manipulated Jessie to break up with Andrea is because as long as Jessie has a serious girlfriend and a stepson he cares about then Walter and the business will always come second. With Andrea gone he can keep Jessie close and manipulate him.

16:02 I don't expect you to know, but they are watching Three Stooges. When AMC made Breaking Bad, and it first came out, it played twice and afterwards they played Three Stooges like they normally did in late hours. Its amusing that after they are done with a batch, they are watching late night AMC programming after Breaking Bad was done.

I would agree with the discussion about Walter IF he didn’t have another choice. Walt had TWO other options, 1. He could work at gray matter and make good money and have top notch benefits OR 2. Gretchen & Elliot would’ve paid for his treatment. So no, Walt gets zero sympathy from me.
@LM-Whit-99 Жыл бұрын
But gray matter was Walt's company so he feels the money was his anyway so his pride wouldn't let him take it from them. My husbands ex has a lot of money she wasn't his boss but she hired him to fix up a bunch of properties she owned , thats how they met. Technically she still owes him money . We been in situations where we needed some help. But I know my husband would die before he ever asked her for anything. Some men they have to earn the money their self somehow their pride wont allow anything less. But I'm just a 24 year old woman so what do I know really. This is just my humble opinion.
@raianthony8492 Жыл бұрын
@@LM-Whit-99 it’s my understanding that he helped create it, it wasn’t solely his. Also, I believe it’s canon that Walt left grey matters due to feeling inferior to Gretchen’s parents wealth (correct me if I’m wrong on this). When I came across that info, It made me annoyed with Walt even more.

I don’t fully buy into the idea that Skylar is a ‘trapped victim’. She has always had agency but has become complicit in Walt’s endeavours because of her own choices.

Walter has been a POS. He’s so selfish and manipulative. Skylar has kept his shit a secret and he goes and throws her under the bus like that. And even though Jessie has his faults and is responsible for his own choices and actions, Walt uses and manipulates Jessie. Walter is not a good person. For me, when I first watched the show, I started disliking Walt pretty early on; he was stupid the second he turned down the job from Gretchen & Elliot.

Quick fact: Smoking during pregnancy is one of the leading preventable causes of cerebral palsey (what Walt Jr. has). Just something to think about
@akbarshabazz-jenkins784710 ай бұрын
Yeah, but it's Skyler, so, obviously it's Walt's fault that Walt Jr. ended up like that, not Skyler and her "smoking while pregnant" habits. I'm so sure that once Holly grows older and if she shows the same signs early on, they'll be able to blame Walt yet again!

Spartanburg kind of rolls off the tongue. I wouldn’t take any criticism in the comments personally. Even if that was their goal. Text as a mode of communication lacks the context needed to depict most concepts . A picture is worth 1000 words but 1000 words will never accurately describe the picture. Are you guys thinking about watching better call Saul?
