Probably one of the best comedys of all time. And the best critical commentary of Hollywood ever done in a movie. RDJ should have gotten an Oscar for this (yes he was nominated)..he somehow managed to play a black guy in such a way that everybody finds it hillarious..what a genious actor. And yes those movie trailers from the start actually played as movie trailers in the cinema...

He has the bad luck of competing against Heath Ledger in THE DARK KNIGHT that same year. Here is an incredible double irony with that. Firstly, RDJ (who played an Australian) lost his TROPIC THUNDER nomination to an actual Australian (Heath Ledger). I watch this movie reaction among the reaction crowd a lot just to see how fast they clock Tom Cruise. I'd like to say that when I saw it in theaters I caught on fast. Nope. It wasn't until he was dancing in the credits and his name came up that I realized it. Cruise has an untapped side for humor, and we as an audience for three decades were denied that aspect of his skills. He's quite good at being funny, and aside from his one role momentarily in Austin Powers, we never get to see him in a comedy. Robbed.

One thing people miss in this a lot: Tugg's agent ACCEPTED the deal from Les Grossman, got the G5 airplane.... and then flew it to go rescue him. That's why he runs out of nowhere (he presumably landed it nearby), then runs back into the woods (back to his airplane), and is then shown flying in the jet (he wouldn't have gotten it). I think it's a great subtle touch in this film.

That was one of my favorite reactions by you two. Both of you being fooled by RDJ was great and Pudgey was laughing so hard a certain points in the movie was cracking me up.

That's a great movie. Thanks for the reaction. Besides Robert Downey, it's definitely Tom Cruise that steals every scene he's in. Many scenes pay homage to other movies. Platoon, Rambo, Apocalypse Now for example. And the way Stiller flies through the air after the bridge explosion is the exact same way Tom Cruise does in Mission Impossible III. Great stuff, so many nods and Easter eggs.

"I'm The Dude, Playing A Dude, Disguised As Another Dude" This line still makes me laugh ever time ave after seeing it like 100times by now (between my watches and the reactions I watch). "I'm a rooster illusion" also gets me. Ans every-time Tom Cruise was on screen.

Yes, that was RDJ the whole time. At the time, him playing a Black guy didnt really offend anyone, but people lately have been trying to make a big deal about it. Spartan needs to wathc this again, but this time realizing its RDJ. Its impressive how well he played the role. Why didnt you show the "dingo ate your baby" part? His character being australian getting offended at mentioning Crocodile Dundee, but still playing his Black character is hilarious.

The "Simple Jack" character was a reference to Tom Hank's character in the 1994 movie "Forrest Gump". It's incredibly funny if you've already watched Forrest Gump, watched Tom Hanks receive an Oscar for best actor for his role in Forrest Gump and only THEN watch this movie! Ben Stiller is famous for a lot of comedies like There's Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, The Little Fockers, Night at the Museum, Zoolander etc.

A GOLD movie look at Ben Stiller's old movies and I mean in all of them but especially in this one, he has always been in shape you can't tell because the guy is a master of showmanship and most of the time you are seeing his face and gestures but wow he has more muscle than half the cast of the avengers

Tom Cruise is fantastic in this. The character of Les was based on his suggestions. For example, he insisted on having the large hands. He wanted to be as unrecognizable as he could. All the cast are great tbh, especially Stiller and RDJ. I think Pudgey got the humor of this film more 🙂 And yes, this film would NEVER be made today. RDJ in blackface today??? No chance. Yet he was nominated for an OSCAR for his performance in this. There was no outcry about it. Everyone loved it.
