I must admit this car never interested me but this build has been my favorite to follow. I think there is something to be said of being able to follow a custom build from start to finish. Custom paint, a fully custom interior a bunch of custom parts, yeah this build has been totally rad! Very nice job guys!

So happy for you Dave, and stoked in general over this build! There's always more work to do but this is a huge milestone. Connie has all the right looks, makes all the right noise, and is going to be a great driver's car. The exhaust sounds great, especially under load. The Panic 52mm ITBs are second to none. It's also wild seeing Connie next to the Tundra.

Any plans for directing cool air to the ITBs? I really learned alot from that S2000 Dyno series. Hope to see it applied here. As a BEAMS owner myself, that iron block is known to run hot and create hot engine bay temps that's not good for intake air. So cool air is definitely recommended.
@speedacademydave Жыл бұрын
Yes, we may well build a custom airbox for the ITBs with a fresh air source eventually. This is a forever car for me, so we'll continue to refine it from here. This is really just the starting point for a car that I fully intend to continue developing for many years.
@aaronbryan5095 Жыл бұрын
@@speedacademydavethat's great news to our ears. What about the torque dip caused by that exhaust header? Do you plan on doing any revisions to the header design to get rid of that torque dip?
@speedacademydave Жыл бұрын
@@aaronbryan5095 from what Mark Panic was explaining to us during the dyno tuning session, the torque dip is a characteristic of this engine and the unique acoustics we have with the 52mm ITBs and our custom header design. He said our torque dip is more pronounced than most of the other Beams he's tuned with their 52mm ITBs, so it seems reasonable to think we could get rid of some of the dip with a different header design, but Mark also said that with their forthcoming 1" velocity stack extensions he's been able to basically eliminate the torque dip because the extensions shift the dip to the right where he can do more cam timing tuning and thus get rid of most if not all of the dip. So we're going to start by re-tuning once we have their extensions on the car and move forward from there. Mark is optimistic we'll get rid of most of the dip and crest 200-whp, so we'll keep you updated on that.
@mr.cangieter8758 Жыл бұрын
@@speedacademydave 3" exhaust is something I'd definitely consider. Helping that car breath as much as possible. If you ever do a rebuild on the engine. Consider cleaning up the ports and do a gasket match. Dont need to go crazy and enlarge the ports as they already have a great design. Some Cat Cams to retain VVT-i function and you should be golden for a street car.
@speedacademydave Жыл бұрын
@@mr.cangieter8758 3" exhaust definitely does make power on these engines, but it also makes them a lot louder. The racer in me wants to power, the old man in me wants the quieter 2.5" setup haha. I do plan to eventually build the spare Beams engine we have with big cams, ported head, higher compression pistons, etc., but that won't be for a few years, I'm sure.

This is up there with the best you guys have done. Nice work. I wonder if playing with the ITB velocity stack height could help the power dip along with the cam timing the tuner worked on already?
@speedacademydave Жыл бұрын
Great question, and the answer (based on Panic-Made recently testing a 1" velocity stack spacer) is yes it can. It moves the dip further to the right in the power band and importantly this puts it in a zone where cam tuning can further eliminate that dip, not to mention they gained close to 30-ft/lbs of torque in the midrange with the spacers and some top end power too. We are going to install and retune with these spacers soon.

Oh my God the car is so calibrated I did not know yoy could go as far as to tune the actual amount of air volume is able to be pulled into each throttle body... Wow times have changed I've never seen anyone do that before. But the idle went from sounding very outschool and plumpy. To what sounds so modern and efficient, lol. I just can't believe it. Really awesome car. I would be so happy to drive that thing. So so so much work... just awesome quality especially the interior.
