Just to add a quick note, the LH cam gears that are loaded are easy to mess up and bend the valves, they didnt do it the right way. The intake gear needs to be spun clockwise, the exhaust gear needs to be spun counter clockwise. Most of the time you can get away with doing it like they did but theres enough spring pressure that if one of the gears slips it will catch the edges of the valves and will easily bend them, and no one ever checks after they do it which can lead to the car running like crap, or turning the valves into a tossed salad.
@island03z5 жыл бұрын
isnt it the other way around? for unloading the cams the intake goes counterclockwise exhaust goes clock wise
@ericbarney50365 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are that easy to bend. I believe it's more of a precaution, so you don't take a impact or a breaker bar to the bolts. I'm picturing some ding dong kicking the breaker bar like he/she is trying to crack lugnuts on the side of 95.

Once you know what you're doing, they're pretty straight forward. All EJ blocks are basically the same, bar bore size and a few other things. Also Subaru's share a lot of parts between them in most aspects, so working on a Impreza is very similar to working on a Forester - talking about the older ones, where they shared the same platform.

For the Cam gears: when you shear off a hardened 3/4” drive Allen trying to break it free, the factory may be fucking up putting them on that tightly. Strangely enough my USDM EJ205T had the hex shank to secure the cam from spinning but there is no way these bolts being so insanely difficult were torqued at the factory to the spec outline in the FSM. Edit: be very very careful with the cam bolts if doing HGs in the car, have to use a shallow, 6 point 10mm socket and be sure to tap the socket on deeply as the cam bolt heads are quite prone to stripping.
