When I first started playing and unlocked the housing wards I was amazed and LOVED the idea of "online neighborhoods". Several months later and while I still love the concept in paper, the wards are actually ghost towns and making housing instanced actually feels like a solution

There are pockets. In my personal ward there is an active FC near me and some active players, and I hang out there. Also in my FCs ward there are a few FCs and players around besides us. Not to say it isn't an issue, but some places see a bit of life.

old comment, I know, but I see it too, my FC seems to be the only one who actually hangs out in the ward at all, at most we'll get a little message from the neighbors every few weeks (bc our decorator is a genius & our house looks _really_ good thanks to her) & maybe see 1 or 2 people by the MB every few days, meanwhile we're out here climbing on people's roofs whenever we get new mounts from farms & having little impromptu parades just because. Maybe when it jumps to ps5 we'll get a proper solution like instanced housing, it can even stay a massive gil sink! But the only community I get out of it are the people who already 'live' there as it were. To say absolutely nothing on the state of trying to _get_ a new house [shudder]

Although the series ended two years ago, and although I would enjoy more episodes, we don't really need future episodes. We heard of the fall in the first six episodes covering 1.0, and we got the rise for the last 4 episodes covering the growing pains and updates covering 2.0.

I love this documentary series, you really do a great job. Just a response to the entire Fall & Rise series. It's great finally seeing the whole story of what happened. We all know the 1.0 horror stories, but I never knew all the details. In truth, I quit 1.0 after a few days of trial, since I felt lost and didn't enjoy the gameplay, and I didn't return until people talked me into it around 4.0 Stormblood release date. They sure made the right choice with a full rebuild from scratch... and that epic ending of 1.0 almost makes it worth the trouble. I'll be waiting to see more, Heavensward is to date still my favorite story.

Rewatching it brought back a lot of memories for me, and made me think of my time all the way through to now. Ah, the Heavensward reveal. I say that as if I was even playing the game then. I got into the game in March of 2019, but I loved Heavensward so much that I already feel nostalgic for it. Seeing the reveal and hearing the crowd react makes me feel all warm and fuzzy even though I wasn't even around for it.

So THAT'S where that artwork came from? 10th anniversary Rising coming up this year (in...like a week or something? :D), and saw that picture was one of the rewards, along with two orchestration rolls. Noticed Papalymo on it right away. Thought it was new but might be a reference to something. Looks like they took the 1st anniversary's Rising artwork and are adding it as an in-game picture. As the one who snagged the FC house in the most recent patch I can definitely imagine what that patch day was like. Was awake at 3am watching the patch download chatting with the FC on discord, everybody too tired to be nervous right up until we were able to launch the game, then we're all collectively losing our shit watching the queue number tick down. Thank goodness for lvl 80 DNC, I just barely beat at least 1 other player to the plot I'd scoped out. I actually couldn't feel my hands for a minute or so afterwards due to the intense relief, it's a small plot & we're still working towards a larger one, but now the long _long_ days & nights of endlessly clicking a placard only to lose to a bot are done. Damn they need to fix housing...

The hunts were a such pain to track down, especially in Coerthas. However, the best part of Naul being a mark was when people would ask if anyone has seen him, puns like "Naul today" were always replied in shout chat (along with the occasional location). I was so lucky to get my FC house. I spent so long getting the money from selling maps, glamour prism items, and Ehcatl sealants. If I were a couple days later, my neighbor told me he was going to buy it. I spent so much time look at it and dreaming of getting the plot, because of how nice the location is. There are a lot of little memories tied to it, I would be sad if I ever lost it for some reason. My personal house, it would suck but I'll live, but that spot is very special to me.

i laughed when he said, when they added an extra ward for the houses after the patch, it was all filled within hours oh boy, i'm from tonberry, and after the patch 5.1 (i forgot if it's 5.1 or 5.1x) they added more wards i was so hyped to move to shirogane, and oh boyyyyyyyy MINUTES after the patch, it was already full (the L houses though not S/M) not the surprising though and till now i still don't know the future for pvp, until when will the pvp will the have the "best" system for it currently right now it's enjoyable, no need to think about equipment and just have to know the skills for the fight it's just enjoyable but not that great while the raiding is of course more improved

5.35 patch morning was fun, mostly because it's a sleep deprived haze in my memory where the only clear thing I remember was not being able to feel my hands when the purchase of our plot went through & my friends all yelling in VC about how they were still in the login queue....goddamn I want instanced housing. It's cool to see the houses of other people but it's really not worth the physical cost at this point.

With the new wards, I managed to nab my dream plot in the centre of the Goblet (I love the goblet, it gets shafted as the least popular, but like, its just so dang pretty!). It meant spending 1.3mil on relocating, but honestly worth it. But I'm lucky. No one cares about the EU servers so like, so many plots still open. Even ones in the non-FC locked wards.

Just over two years without an update. I wonder if we'll ever get another video in this series... BUT, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this. I first started right around the time Heavensward dropped. I was very sporadic in my play. I've only gotten serious about the game in the past few months. I always knew that the game had been remade, but I didn't really know the history. It's really awesome to finally hear the full story. This really is a special game. I hope that Endwalker isn't where we start to come to a close to this huge story. But, if it is, I hope the next generation of Final Fantasy MMO's is as grand as this, and as special as FFXI was when I was a teenager.

Ah just when world of darkness and the coils where at the peak and we thought this was it they slam us with a video of flying mounts, dragons and new job gear and everyone lost their shit. Heavensward imo was the turning point for the games success. It was either going to fizzle out or explode and boy did it explode because here we are in 2021 with Endwalker a few months out and the player base is unreal compared to 2.x. 3,500 concurrent average players in 2015 2021 so far 20,000 average with over 20 million subbed. To think 1.0 had less than 1 million subbed and usually about 500 concurrent players. This game really did a 360. I know it doesn't have WoW numbers but I'd rather keep it this way. Servers are huge but small enough you will regularly see familiar people.

To be honest... I don't know. But I do know there are some... interesting triggers for the S-hunts XD For example for one of those you have to walk with a specific pet over the spawn points of the mob when the spawn is ready to trigger it XD And for another one there have to be PC's losing HP to let it spawn... At least thats what other people told me. ^_^

Just a half. There's one in coerthas where you had to loose a lot of hp, and to do it faster, we made a lot of parties jumping in chain from a cliff. Some were totally naked :)

Yes, he was. He is actually conflating the conditions of 2 S-ranks, Outer LN (S rank spawns when someone dies in the zone) and Lower LN (S-rank spawns when someone steps on the spawn point during a Full Moon), and adding in something spawners did to reduce costs (removing gear so it wouldn't be damaged when dying).

With all respect of course, but from what I've heard, it seems that the game lost a lot of it's appeal with people saying the devs are acting like robots trying to reinvent 'fun'. I can certainly see where they're coming from when looking at FFXIV, where fun gameplay is a main priority.

where you was playing ? i dont think not on any FF 14 server because the housing ... likely every FC had a house and the B rank monsters was not rare. But i remember the login issues :( i started to paly on a ps3 then switched to a ps4 and then at the end palyed on my pc because it was faster then the ps4 :) so good memorys about FF XIV ARR even heavensward was awesome even when i was at the end game and had likely done everything and most of my classes was good equipt and most of them lv.60 and hell i did a lot of Gil by Crafting ... and how many Gil i spend to level my crafter T_T Final Fantasy XIV is the best MMORPG experience i ever had. Maybe i will start playing it again when i find some free time.

My fc has had houce since 2.1 dropped and upgraded to large sometime in 4 and we are on balmung. I have a house and my hubby has one too. In fact I was hospitalised for 7 months and my hubby lost our 1st home. It really isn't that big of an issue.

When you read the letter from Yoshi P. from the first anniversary I had a thought... a very dark one. What will happen, when the game finishes? When the servers will shut down? Let's be honest, this day will come... And I'm afraid of it... Q_Q I don't know what I will do when it arrives, so I will be happy about every day it continues.

I guess we'll at least go to the end of 6.x, so the story with the Empire can finish, but they teased other continents with the Blue Mage quests, and there's also the possibility of going into other worlds at some point. Even if they stop updating it, we can imagine the servers will be up for about 10 years. Someday, we will have to live with fond memories of Hydaelyn and all the friends we made there, all the adventures we went through.

is not hard depending on the server you're playing. For exmaple Bryhildir has a TON of open houses but then go and try to get one on Balmung and you'll see where all the complains come from lol.

Let's be honest here, the only real downside to not having a house is that you don't have a house. Gardening and voyages are ok for FC funds but it's not like people divide their profits among the whole FC, and it's not much of a social element because the houses are not as you say "in the world", they're in instances with no purpose other than the housing and completely removed from the rest of the game, meaning you don't really see anyone that isn't your immediate neighbor, or the >very< occasional ward tourist. This whole 'housing crisis' thing is as astroturfed as the male viera thing, nobody outside of reddit really cares. Things like the game still not having a decent AA now that PS3 limitations aren't a thing anymore, or latency and delay still being an issue (although not as bad as it used to be), or issues with the team's reluctance to hotfix balance issues (RDM being dead in the water since ShB launch, nigh unplayable for most of 5.0 due to severe MP starvation) are much more pressing.
