The problem with shifting military operations primarily to special operations is similar to one of the problems of eventually replacing human soldiers with robots (no, it's not the danger of Skynet taking over) - it reduces domestic public as well international political oversight and scrutiny of military actions, and thereby encourages their frequent (indeed perhaps even constant) use, and abuse. Just as removing the risk of flesh and blood losses in war (via mechanization) reduces the risk of public backlash, switching primarily to special operations allows nations to carry out operations in secret - and thereby avoid controversy. 'Plausible deniability' becomes the name of the game - and allows countries to get away with their actions in a manner that an open invasion might not. In this way, it increases and normalizes a state of constant global conflict. Also, it's a great opportunity for the private "security" sector, which is a whole other can of worms.

@degen834 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Given recent realities, such as the Democrat cities in the US defunding their police, the rich and the politicians have begun to hire private security, because they have no faith their local police will arrive to protect them. In the US we are so close to having private security replace public security like police forces. This is already widespread in Brasil and other countries where the local police are corrupt and selectively enforce the law based on whatever the government wants, and we are seeing in the US today that our police in Democrat cities are selectively enforcing the law, so if you have the wrong politics the police will not come to protect you, but instead to arrest you even if you did nothing wrong. The next step is the rise in private security and then we devolve into different private security areas where different rules are enforced and we no longer have one universal set of laws in the uS, we would then have different laws that are selectively enforced depending on who pays the private military/security more. That is not progress. It is regressive, not progressive, but it is the direction the US is headed currently with these nation wide riots currently. So save your pennies so you can pay the private security to keep you safe because your police are defunded if you go to any Democrat area and you better pay the toll so the private security will keep you safe. I fully expect the future of law enforcement in the US to be so corrupt and cash strapped that become the epitome of a corrupt police force. We have to stop the Democrat led defund the police narrative.

The Phenomenal Army System is Fascinating. My Favourite is the Russian Special Logistics in Urban Warfare and its Spezna. It is a much much less lethal way of winning a Battle or War by invading a Country as fast as a blink of an Eye. But while the Russian Federation focus on Teritorial Focus,the US mainly is focused on eliminating Key Features such as Generals and or Key Bases to Stagger the enemy from operating efficiently. But China for to has yet something I can still learn from and its Warfare is unknown to me. But I would not call that all the 3 Major powers would unleash a war so devestating that it would exterminate humanity. They all even have Nuclear weapons that are the most Crulest type of weapon ever. Then why hold there? Well whit such Massive Weapons and Army you would expect someone to win. But in fact rather nobody would. People,normal humans will be against not just the brutality of such war but also against the Goverment. What I am talking about is if such War would happen,if it would be Mass Invasion or Nuclear war The Aftereffects would be Devestating especially for a Goverment where it gets extremly destabilized and prone to having Norman humans turn against they own Goverment to try and Create a more Peaceful option. It is eventually a Ticking time Bomb,and if it would happen,it will be all the fault of the Human Race,as it would be fair to be completly exterminated whit the own weapons that we created. Soldiers,Tanks,Planes,Ships those are all amazing and cool But War,war is something nobody wants,where nobody wins.

That's not new at all. I'm from Egypt, and I was taught in school that Ancient Egypt was the first "country" in the world and also had the first actual organized military. Before that, you only had groups of highly trained assassins. I was also taught that even that Army wasn't always the best solution to face mercenaries because they were smaller groups with smaller chains of command and capable of moving faster than the actual army Egypt has founded at the time. Now, we live in a relatively prosperous world where famines happen only a few select countries in Africa and Asia. But before, a famine was always like a month away if your country got into a war.

I don't entirely agree with China being compared with the mights of Russia and US. In my view anyone can pour all the billions they want but nothing comes close to real world experience of the likes of Mossad, SAS, French special forces, etc. China has never entered a real combat in recent years (maybe except for the recent clash with Indian forces) nor has faced any major military power in the south China sea. Why this is very relevant now is because, just recently Chinese defence forces were taken by surprise by one of Indian special forces and had to retreat back to their base.

I see two problems with this philosophy. Politicians may be tempted to try something stupid if they think they can achieve their goal without having to explain loads of filled body bags. The second is that there is a growing trend to use military units against large criminal gangs. As long as these gangs do not attempt to exert political influence they should be handled by law enforcement. Sending Spec Ops against Ordinary Decent Criminals is a very slippery slope.

You are so close it is on the tip of your tongue. The world is divided in different conflicts. You have to base them as either full fledged militaries that fight in third generation warfare or Non State Actors that fight Fourth Generation Warfare. Spec Ops is third gen funded to fight fourth gen. Basically, warfare is no longer in the hands of states anymore but ideology. I was trying to describe this to a much older vet but he got really angry that we couldn't take on Iran so he just wanted to nuke it.

You read a book and learned a lot, fast. Remember that you have read an old book so no. Nothing new and yes, threatens peace. You belief in freedom and peace at the same time? You search the web and find out where you end up. Having said that, reality is constant and time makes it relative. ;-)

You should have mentioned indian special forces, they are more numerous then Chinese once and have actually done successfully surgical strikes and many more missions... something Chinese counter parts can't even dare to think.

Actually we are maybe at the end of this trend. Today conventional conflict between states is more likelier than at the end of the cold war. Just look at the persian gulf, south china sea and east med. Another curious trend has been hybrid warfare being employed by more and more states.

I mean it makes sense. Nukes and economic interdependence means any conventional war between great powers is pretty much out of the question. So more precise tactics that can take out individuals and targets is definitely the future.
