Saudi Arabia has one of the largest and most expensive armies on the planet. It's the most significant buyer of US weapons and yet, when it comes down to it, a simple drone strike is able to bring the kingdom to its knees.
The situation in the rest of the Persian Gulf petro monarchies is not very different. With the exception of perhaps the United Arab Emirates, these countries are characterized by spending a lot of money in equipping armies that are very ineffective when it comes to the hour of reckoning.
Why do gulf sheikhs spend so much money on their armed forces? How on earth can you explain why they're still so inept? To find out, don't miss our video today.

Many years ago, I read a report online. It relates to the first gulf war and how the USAF tried training Saudi pilots. The report mentioned how difficult it was to train Saudi pilots as they were too dim to understand things. I cannot find this article anymore despite searching the keywords, but there is some truth to this, evident from Saudi borrowing Pakistani armed force personnel in their current Yemen conquest AND hiring the former Pak Army Commander too.

@@jumamnumbwa9483 There is a difference between size of an army and quality. As a Brit I wouldn't say the British army is weak. Its considerably smaller than the US army of course. But it is also considerable better equipped and better trained than that of Arabian forces. European armies have a longer history of battle than the Arabs, at least in modern warfare, thus they have more experience. Plus the select few strong European nations, like Britain and France are the select few which have strong Military Industrial Complexes to manufacture the arms they use. The Arabs have to buy everything.

Arab armies suffer greatly from communication, there is no unit cohesion and nobody obeys chain of command. They would rather ignore a potential security flaw or refrain from relaying a sit-rep than to be the person responsible for telling the commanding officer and subsequently suffer reprimand.

I'm no expert in Saudi military organization, but aren't cavalry, mechanized infantry, infantry, artillery and close air support supposed to be all operating under "Army"? I would blame the troubles in Yemen more on the terrain and the fact that Saudi M-1s are less heavily armoured than their American counterparts. Yes, Saudi armed forces are not good, but, Russia and the US had similar problems in Afganistan - I don't think they would have been successful in Yemen.

Dominates almost all the oceans in the world which in turn allow them to protect all its global trade interests. I remember Gladwell's Ethnic Theory of Plane Crashes. Some cultures have a high power distance that stifles collaboration, reporting, contributions, and quality control all of which depend on communication. America has a relatively low power distance culture with the Upper Midwest and Northeast being highest and the West and Southeast being lowest but overall nothing as hierarchical in casual interaction like other countries. A higher power distance might be a contributing factor in lousy ME armies.

Even if some people might prefer scaffolding. although I'd try to position myself in more peaceful places in the first place, rather than cultivating the means through which more people might be loyal. And smart drones with grappling hooks on them for emergency services, and a paintball arena that won't even necessarily require hydraulic lifts to lift people into the stadium, lol...? An old Arab saying "In the West, the army protects the people from foreign enemies. In the Arab World, the army protects the king from the people" Corruption, and promotion based on connections rather than ability basically removes all effort in Arab army thinking. What's the point about being a good soldier if you'll never be promoted due to not having the connections, or the fact the country's ruler doesn't care.

sadly you misunderstand the whole situation, if you didn't know iran proxies are all over, in yemen, syria, iraq, lebanon, the military spending was not that high before the arab spring, which caused a state of chaos surrounding the gulf states, if they weren't capable armies, those gulf countries would have fallen faster than syria did, but they didn't, the video is suggesting in order for those armies to be affective they should prevent any and all irani harrassements, and it's partly true, but not the right way to judge the whole army, one thing they didn't mention, that really contributes to their power, that is having egypt as an ally, part of their spending goes on egyptian equipements, to support the military industry there, as well as strengthening their ties. the stability of the country is for the people's safety, otherwise turkey, iran and other countries would swallow the entire middle east, taking all their ressources and giving them nothing but chants to repeat over and over

@ایران گرایی do you go spreading your opinion as facts for a living? what governments are you talking about? tell me the full extent if their power, does it reach outside their offices? even the strongest of the 3, turkey goes to kill their officers and nothing is done about it, and yemen, tell me who the governement there is fighting against? and the part about saudi arabia creating isis, why did it carry attacks in its homeland, as well as in allied arab countries, that is not to mention worldwide, even israel wouldn't get a pass for it from america

@ایران گرایی your country rushed to syria not to fight against isis, but for the aid of bashar, saudi arabia along with jordan and turkey were the ones who really rid iraq and syria of isis, your country doesn't care about shiaa arabs, even shiaa in iraq had a country wide uprising with their sunni brothers calling iran to step out, you know what your militias did to them, exactly what your officials did to the iranian protestors, before soleimani was killed and both fires were put down
