If Venezuela has oil reserves to rival the US and the mid East oil cartels makes sense they wouldn’t want Venezuelan oil on the market especially now when it’s approaching 90 a barrel. I think the west and it’s allies are definitely interfering in Venezuela no doubt about it. But the amount of incompetence in the Maduro is mind boggling. The only way Venezuela could ever recover is to be able to extract and sell its resources period.
@shanetonkin28502 жыл бұрын
Errr no.. ‘the west’ wants LOW oil prices, not high. Since practically all forms of economic activity are dependent on oil, one way or another (just everything needs to be transported for example) , higher oil prices = higher cost, which is bad for business, and this hurts western countries. Just look at how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sent oil and natural gas prices soaring, which has then sent inflation through the roof in most parts of the world and starting to cause minor financial hardship to many as the cost of everyday items is increases while their wages are not. The west does not make money from extracting oil, it is a net consumer of oil, by far. The only countries that want high oil prices are those oil producing nations with undeveloped economies, where oil extraction makes up most of their income, such as Venezuela, Iraq, Iran, Russia, Nigeria, Angola

It's a complex problem, for sure. Corruption inside and outside Venezuela. One thing is for certain, Venezuela was outspending its income BEFORE sanctions, and had little to no austerity AFTER the sanctions. What would happen to the US if China stopped selling to them? It would really, really hurt, but hopefully (yeah, I'm a dreamer), the US would reign in government spending to compensate. In the end, if you live beyond your means, you will ruin yourself. This is true for individuals and nations. Sanctions hurt, but they would have hurt less if Venezuela's government had reigned in its spending.

Venezuela, home to the world’s largest oil reserves, is a case study in the perils of Socialism. In the 1950s, Venezuela was the fourth wealthiest country in the world. Today, Venezuela is poorer than it was prior to the 1920s, its infrastructure is deteriorating, and its economy has been shrinking since the turn of the century. Hyperinflation (out of control price increases) has left the currency worthless and made it almost impossible for Venezuelans to afford basic necessities. Millions have fled the country’s inhospitable conditions. How did the country go from having a GDP on par with that of the United States, New Zealand, and Switzerland to having almost 90% of the population living in poverty? Between 1977 and 2001, Venezuelan per worker GDP declined by 36 percent. Venezuela's gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by roughly three-quarters between 2014 and 2021.From the 1950s to the early 1980s, the Venezuelan economy, which was buoyed by high oil prices, was one of the strongest and most prosperous in South America.

Why do we act as though the economic collapse was accidental? Having 20% of the most industrious people and their families leave the country is not an accident, it is policy . In the USSR of course Cambodia and early Communist China they simply killed potential opposition, while in Venezuela and other modern Marxist dictatorships they simply drive them out of the country . No opposition makes for easy power and control. The USA - since the issue was raised- doesn't have to buy anybody's goods or service , so blaming the sanctions is just a convenient short-circuit that sidesteps the mis-governance that led to the sanctions. Communist countries certainly do not subsidize their enemies - so why should the US ?
