Listening to those traditional German Christmas songs made me think this maritime radio service may have had its origins going back to WW1, when the Imperial German Navy ruled the world's oceans. 🙂 Anyway, I attempted to get C3PO to translate the male announcer around the 06:00 mark, until you switched the frequency about two minutes later. Note that the source sound quality which is played through my Android tablet and detected by smartphone has resulted in many things lost in translation: "Ladies and gentlemen, they also report on what life in the ports, life on board, working on board, again and again in the Info, of course we do North German reporting or business reporting, but this year we have really unpacked it again, André Feuerbacher, network editor of North Rhine-Westphalia and the head of programming at NDR, Coron, is ok with me" "We have also paid a little more attention here to the fact that we also tell exactly about it, about the hard work, the food-rich work, about the economic contexts that always have to do with seafaring, what did we do, well, we have heard the thought of Rosa, also to keep alive an awareness of the importance, the relevance of SEPA are economical, that also brings the ports are on the wheels on these first marriages just to keep these first marriages awake again(?)" "I miss it especially at Christmas, when you can simply preview quite interesting thought experiments to sit around the account decorations or Christmas stands or by things with which you are currently driving, what is being prepared. Gifts like sneakers, smartphone and I think it's quite interesting to ask you what is it really here if there were male sailors, containers, giants across the world's oceans, among other things, here, where we are currently broadcasting, to the port of Hamburg. "What of it would be here if it weren't for the people who would take care of the fruit, if the machines that were almost year-old are not here, the people are here, the containers on my head, the ships are waiting again, I have this beautiful place to sleep, no shipping nose of the year..." That was a verbatim translation by the app and if I ran it several times I'm sure I'd get a better translation each time. I think the translation would have been better had you used your Eton/Grundig Executive Traveler instead of the Qodosen. 😀

Thank you so much for the translation! I am pinning your comment so that viewers will see it first, it is really interesting to see what they are talking about. This is really nice, thanks! There are quite a number of words in Afrikaans that are similar to German words, so I am able to catch a few words here and there and understand a little bit, but not in full. You might know it already, but before WW1 Germany also had several African colonies. My neighbour to the north, Namibia, was a German colony. To this day there are some towns in Namibia where people still speak German, and the German colonial architecture has been maintained and is very popular among tourists. You can see one example here, the small coastal village of Luderitz in the south of Namibia. I have been there, it is a very interesting place, all these German-style buildings surrounded by desert! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%BCderitz#/media/File:Lutheran_Church_Luderotz.jpg

@@swlistening I hope I didn't insult any German speaking viewer, as that translation was done in the wee hours of the morning and the app relies on the device's microphone input. 🤭 If the source audio was from an FM station I'm sure C3P0 would have translated the German announcer more accurately. Thank you for the link to the article about the town in Namibia. I enjoyed looking at the strange coastal landscape. I wish I could sail along the coast of the African continent to see how the beaches vary with the latitude. It seems that the east coast of Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia) has sandy beaches while the south western part appear to have a rocky coastline. What's fascinating to me is that South Africa sits mostly on the Highveld plateau which tapers all the way to Cape Town. I'm going to have a look at Namibia's topology on Google Earth in my spare time! 🌍🇳🇦

Hello André, Merry Christmas again 🎅😜 Well done receiving this broadcast on so many frequencies, even the Tashkent one did really well 😮 and I like the fact you had a very good signal on 11650, at least for most of the broadcast 😛 this really means shortwave can work & can be suitable for such broadcasts. I hope those responsible find a good replacement for Moosbrunn to Indian Ocean next year 👍

Hi there Arnie, thanks for the wishes and I hope you had a good Christmas! Mine was good, just some family and a few friends came over, a small gathering, but it was very nice. It will be interesting to see what they do next year with Gruss an Bord for the Indian Ocean, my guess is that they might use Woofferton. Always reliable here at my location. It is as you say, the clarity of 11650 shows that SW can work really well. The clear NHK signal from Yamata here at my location on an almost daily basis is another example of SW that works really well. By the way, I monitored NHK from Issoudun last night on 15130 kHz at 19:10 UTC. It was clear. Good and strong signal. Sinpo 45444. Not as crystal clear as the one from Yamata, but still very good.

Merry Christmas Andre! Excellent recording off the little "Q" DX radio machine! 15770 KHZ WRMI usually comes in about the same in Tucson, Arizona too as we are back of the beam and propagation has been mediocre for the past 3 weeks here, so it's even worse. 73! Have a great day!
@swlistening16 сағат бұрын
Merry Christmas to you too! Interesting about 15770 kHz at your location. How are the other WRMI frequencies there? They seem to have quite a number of frequencies in various directions. Are some of them very clear catches in Tucson? If I hear WRMI, it is 15770, but never very clearly. They have one targeted broadcast to West Africa on 17790 kHz, Radio Africa Network, which is quite clear here on some days, but not always.
@Kw11612 сағат бұрын
@@swlistening Andre I receive 5050 Khz weakly but they broadcast the Legends of WRMI on there so I live with it. They used to switch to 9455KHZ but one of the hurricanes damaged the antenna or Xmitter. 5850 and 5950 KHZ are usually good except when occupied by old BS. 7730 and 7780 KHZ occasionally. plus 9395 KHZ in the Tucson area. 73!

For most of the signals I was outside the target area. I am in South Africa, so the two signals to the Indian Ocean and to the Atlantic near South Africa were in my direction. All the others were not.

@@duanetrivett750 It is fun to chase these pirate stations. I know there are some in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe also. I once caught one from Brazil, called Radio Araucaria. But that has been the only pirate station I have heard so far. There are none here in South Africa.
