The level of sheer incompetence displayed here is amazing. A quarantine room with holes in the floor. Letting that thing grow in such a flimsy container. Having an "instant incineration" button that is set on a 2 minute delay. Moaning at the guy to let them out when all any of them had to do was press a single button.

He's too old now, but when they recast the role of Khan from Star Trek for the new movies, Kingsley should have played him. First off, he played Ghandi, so he has played an Indian before. But Ricardo Montalban had such a presence, and the intensity in his eyes was striking. But look at Kingsley's face. Look at those eyes. Its as if there is a vicious man waiting to be unleashed if provoked. He would have been my choice. Not even a doubt. Kingsley going toe-to-toe with Kirk? Wow!

The thing I always found interesting in these kinds of scenes, is. Where does the organism get its new biomass from? AIR? is it absorbing the containment vessel? Sure some growth can happen but eventually the cells need more fuel and food to expand. Lots of movies make this mistake btw. But it is just sci-fiction, I just wish they maybe included a plot device that explained it, like it breaks into the water storage container or something.

It's a silly scene with a dropped bolt falling through the grated floor... but not too far fetched. In 1980 a nuclear tipped missile exploded in its Silo while undergoing routine maintenance. The cause of the explosion... one of the workers dropped a wrench that fell to a lower portion of the missle where it punctured the skin of the rocket. A bit later the entire silo exploded in a massive fireball caused by the fuel leak. All because a dude dropped a wrench!
