Species Spotlight | Betta splendens

I've been keeping fish for many years but only recent got a Betta. Loving life in a Fluval Edge with spiderwood and Anubias scape. Shares the tank with a group of Cardinal Tetra and largely ignores them, except at feeding time where he will dive in and break up the Tetra group - fun to watch and no harm being done. If not using the Fluval Betta aquarium I recommend a small sponge pad or block to soften the water outflow.

Bettas are the perfect fish for small nano tanks. If you have limited space you can keep one or a few small tanks and keep a variety of bettas that way. Plus you can decorate each tank differently and get more variety that way as well. They are easy to keep and have real character. My betta takes food right from my fingers and even comes and sits in the cup of my hand when I place it into his tank. If I'm moving around the room his tank is in, he will follow me from one side of this tank to the other. I'm working on leash training him.... Only kidding, but he is a character.

Can we leave bettas and gold fish together in same aquarium tank?

Absolutely not! Goldfish are temperate water fish and require large tanks with strong filtration. Bettas are tropical fish that require warm water, specialized filtration, and a specialty diet. As is mentioned in the video, it's best to keep a single male Betta by himself.

There is a lot of Info here being miss told, knowing or unknowing I am not sure. A lot of Wild Betta are actually not aggresive it actually says it in the name "Betta Imbellis" the peaceful betta, unlike "Betta Spendin" who are actually more aggresive. Both are extremely alike and were the foundation of the brightly colored and big tailed and sometimes smallered tailed Betta Spendin we all know today. Betta Splendin and Imbelis look more like or Plakat type betta if not for some colors. And again may we please stop advertiding Modern Day Betta as Wild Betta.

Hi Aryn, thanks for your comment! We're familiar with the difference between various Betta species, and currently keep breeding pairs of B. imbellis, B. channoides, and B. hendra. Tom mentions several times in the video the differences between captive-bred Betta splendens (not Spendin!) and their wild-type counterparts! 👍
