Corydoras and nerites are like a must have in any aquarium if you ask me. There are always exceptions, but not many I do not think.

Great video. The big downside with nerites in a display tank is the hard, white eggs they lay. They are very unsightly. Though less attractive snails, I personally prefer Japanese Trapdoor snails as the are live bearers (i.e. no unsightly eggs on the bog wood) and they breed very slowly compared to many other snail breeds.

You're absolutely right - we have a few tanks covered in those white eggs. 😒 You can get lucky and buy a male snail, but it's of course impossible to tell. We've never kept Japanese Trapdoor Snails, thanks for the recommendation! 👍

My nerite is very shy, always hiding at the top of the tank. It does go in the tank because I see paths through patches of algae, but it must do it at night.

Nerite snails are indeed most active at night! You can usually spot them starting to come out in the evening. 👍

I am wondering, do they add to the bio load that much? Because my tank is pretty well stocked, maybe even a little overstocked. I do good cleaning algae off of the glass, but I need something to eat it of of the plants or decorations. If I get 1 or 2, will they add to much to the bio-load, or will I be fine?

Great question! You should be fine - snails don't really contribute much to the tank's overall bioload. Just keep up with your water changes and you should be okay! 👍

I am extremely new to this … and feel overwhelmed. We bought a tank, live plants and some guppy’s and tetras. On adding all to the aquarium I noticed a shrimp and a snail !! I am very aware a new tank ( 2 days old, fully treated, no visible algae. OMG. Now I’m panicking…. I’ve fallen in love with the shrimp and snail. How they survived in a bag ( no water ) hiding in the live plant attached to a log 🪵 I’ve no idea but we have a lot of respect for them now !!!! 🎉 the shrimp is ok.. but reading up on the snail I’m legging it to the shops for some cucumber or spinach…. Q: Do I blanch the cucumber ? Everything they eat? Thanks Anne

Does anything eat the unsightly eggs? I guess I'm lucky and the one nerite I've had for a year is a male. I want more, but not the eggs. lol

We haven't found anything that gets rid of them - the best method seems to be to just scrub them off! 😅

I have two and one keeps either falling off of something. The betta may knock him off or he’s nearing his last days. I named him flipper 😢 I can’t tell which. I do flip him over if I see him in his back. The other seems fine I may need some calcium blocks. I haven’t had one in the tank for about a week. I’m still new to this hobby. I’m so thankful for KZbin.

My nephew gave me his nerite snail (just like the one in this video) because it escaped his tank a couple times. It is a great addition to my tank and will definitely be getting more for my other tanks 🙂
