In the comics, Electro has an inferiority complex due to him feeling like a nobody, particularly by his family that even when he gets his godlike power, he still doesn’t feel worthy enough so that’s what motivates him to get more power or doing some of the crazy stuff he’s been notable for. That’s why it made sense why they made Jamie Foxx the outcast nerd that wanted to be noticed.

Two quick things: 1) on the topic of Josh Keaton's voice acting career, it's really cool that wise men or someone else in the know brought him on to play the villain black spider on young justice. Very fun IYKYK stuff there. 2) there's a fantastic piece of fanfiction called Fighting Crime, Spinning Webs that continues the story after the cancellation of SSM and goes on to incorporate pretty much the entire Marvel universe into the story. The characterization for most of them comes from the other Yost-verse shows but include a lot of nods to both classic continuity and different adaptations, as well.

But that's the thing about the character, she is a tragic love in Peter's story. One of the only characters in comics to stay dead, and from there her death became part of the Mythos. This seried updates and toys with the Spider-Man Mythos, so it was the right call to give so much setup to the epic and tragic love story of Peter and Gwen. The one thing that actually could be bad about the show is that the creators confirmed that they didn't had plans to kill Gwen, but Peter would end up with MJ anyways, to me that would be a HUGE mistake.
@vullord666 Жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with that. I'm still hung up on Felicia/black cat as a love interest because of how perfect she was as partner material in the 90s Spiderman TAS. When I got older and read more comics and their history and how she's portrayed in almost every other adaption I realized they make for a rather toxic relationship elsewhere. I still want Felicia and Peter to end up together though (literally the only reason I bought Spiderman web of shadows originally was for the symbiote black cat ending... now that was a guilty pleasure). Similar to how I still want Bruce and Diana to end up together from the DCAU even though in virtually all other media their personalities don't have the chemistry they did from that animated universe.

12:33 While I do see where you are coming from, Electro do have a relatable "personality" that is often forgotten about. Electro might be one of my favorite S-M villains and that is because he started of as a regular nobody who suffered from low self-esteem. He always denied other ambitions because he didn't think he was smart enough. That all changed when he got his powers. Just like Peter, his powers made him more confident. As Electro, he set up to prove himself as a somebody. Unfortunately that part of the character often gets forgotten about which is ashame

I'll always remember this show for the fact that it made me, a life-long fan of Spider-Man, actually unable to guess who the Green Goblin was. They set that up perfectly, and I'll never forget how screwed up it was to see Norman Osborn breaking his own son's leg to frame him.

After getting to watch this, I was actually at a con I can’t remember which one because I go to a pretty large amount of shows each year due to family ties and occupation but I actually got to see Josh Keaton at a show and I must of caught him at a good time because no one was really around him when we got to talk. I asked all about this show and he didn’t say much about anything this video didn’t cover but it’s great to actually hear everything you talked about come from the actually VA of Spider-Man.

I’ll mention this about your Electro talk. Recently, they made Electro a woman who was originally Max’s girlfriend and due to clone shenanigans, she got electric powers. She’s not a really developed character but she’s got that working class supervillain type character that works. Plus, during one storyline, she got recruited into an all-female Sinister Six and she was the best character because she got weirded out by Beetle over how she tried to set her up with tax forms.

The Spectacular Spider-Man is an outstanding example of serialized storytelling in North American animation. But, as good as it was, I feel the best we’ve gotten, so far, is the TMNT series, by Mirage Studios, which ran from 2003-2006. It ran 117 episodes and leaned much harder into serialized storytelling. It didn’t matter if it was a major character, supporting character or recurring character. They all had growth. Not one of them ended up the same way they started out. In my opinion, this take on TMNT is the one to beat.

This is definitely the best animated incarnation of Spider-Man. That said, I remember watching this on CW 4 Kids back in the day when it was still new. And I remember being kind of mad at the black suit in the show at first because it looked a lot closer to how it did in Spider-Man 3. But, the way they have it slowly mutate into the more traditional black symbiote suit over the course of a few episodes was a brilliant way to subvert my expectations. Damn I miss this show!

Spectacular might be the only Spider-Man adaptation that made me care so much about his personal life that his superhero life actually felt like an interruption and a nuisance - like it actually is to him - rather than the part we all just want to skip to. Loved the show, still miss it.

I love this cartoon I have the entire series on dvd josh Keaton is one of my favourite adaptations of Spider-Man And I honestly like how this show handled the uncle Ben killer story more than Spider-Man 3 mainly because it didn’t retcon anything no I didn’t like how they handled the uncle Ben killer story in Spider-Man 3. sandman already had a great backstory stealing money to save sick and dying daughter they didn’t need to make him uncle bens killer on top of that
@galactic852 жыл бұрын
Making sandman uncle bens killer was a horrible choice. It removed Peter's direct responsibility for his uncle's death. Instead of a single selfish choice causing his uncle's death it becomes more just random chance. Additionally it removes Peter's guilt over being responsible for his uncle's death in a bug way and the movie doesn't contend with that in any way. The heartfelt scene in spider-man 2 where he tells aunt may the truth is rendered meaningless. I understand that rhey wanted to give sandman A personal connection to Peter but the solution should have been to have sandman accidentally hurt aunt may. That would have worked so much better than what we got.
@kevinskywalker55392 жыл бұрын
@@galactic85 , your not getting it. There's lessons in the rami trilogy. The first is about responsibility. The second is about trying to find a way to balance both Peter's life and spider-man saving lives. The 3rd is about forgiveness.

Didn't they retcon Uncle Ben's killer into Black Cat's dad? Are y'all wearing nostalgia goggles for a Weisman show again? Because that's what gave us the last few seasons of Young Justice, which were a trainwreck.
@chakinabox2 жыл бұрын
Dude, hands down agree with everything you said! The simplistic style really does lend itself well to give us such fluid animation and top tier Spider-Fighting choreography. And it's juxtaposed well with the complex storytelling and fleshed out characters. The last decade has generally been kind of a waste ever since the buyout, cancellations and restructuring for all animated properties. Also, gotta say, the Sin-Eater bit using Beavis and Butt-Head audio just slayed me! 🤣
@TECH0972 жыл бұрын
I actually liked the take that Felicia's dad was Uncle Ben's killer. It struck me as someone who was past his prime now suffering for his life choices, while giving Peter something to struggle with: forgiving him. In the Raimi films he simply let go of his hate for Sandman by the end but it's all sorts of clear he resents him by the end of the episode leaving room for interesting ideas to play out! THAT SAID I could be misremembering since it has been a while since I've seen the show, for all I know it does clash as much as you said Xavier, either way I'm just glad we got this video to highlight how spectacular this show truly was.
