But I get it, I've owned two Zon basses (around $4500-$5000) and they just send it out with a gig bag - so whatever. And for $2200 they should come with a quick-flip battery compartment & not having to get a screwdriver to take off the plate. And lastly, I would feel somewhat ashamed when playing live that other guitarists who are in the crowd watching (or even my bandmates) being like "Wow! That guitar looks amazing!" but when they check the headstock and it says Keipro (or my bandmates see it) they going to say "Never heard of it - probably a $179 guitar from Amazon - you know, the ones that are fake brands that nobody knows." And then the conversation of "Wait! This is a really cool guitar & I know it's a brand you never heard of but really, it was $2200 and made in China and is awesome!". Everyone will think you're nuts considering all the other brands/models that you could have bought from here - or at least somewhere that is not communist China who hates the United States guts.

I am an ardent supporter of more affordable, high quality import guitars that can serve as mod platforms, and I firmly believe that is money better spent than 1k-2k on something equitable,where the only added "value" is the name on the headstock. That being said, when you're crossing the $2k-3k mark, that's when playability, electronics, craftsmanship, and yes, even the pedigree of the instrument, starts coming back into focus. I'm not sure $2300 on this is better spent than, say, a custom shop Kiesel or a higher-end production line Schecter, or even a Fender American Ultra, especially since the latter two are actually a couple hundred bucks less and would have higher resale value. All that in mind, that is a pretty rad looking diddy.

With all due respect to the opinions talked at the beginning, I think it must be mentioned that made in USA guitars like Fender and Gibson are the OG guitars tones that the USA invented. Yes, they're not exclusive anymore and their company management to me leaves a lot to be desired. But they have won something that Chinese manufacturers will rarely have in the near future: Credibility. I don't live in the US, nor I am a USA quality is 'bae' guy. I live in Spain and people pay totally absurd amounts of money for guitars that are just made in the country where classical guitars were invented. My point: Being the OG matters and will matter

@brendankane119010 ай бұрын
It's nice, a couple of things to note though if we're considering this high end competition; no carve on the top (affects playability and aesthetic, subjective), trem cavity cover sits proud of the body rather than recessed, which you tend to find on higher end guitars, and the hardware is own brand. Many, but not all, high end manufacturers will bring in brand hardware from companies that ensure you are getting the best stuff e.g. Hipshot, Gotoh, Grover, Schaller, Sperzel. It lasts longer and generally works better than company's own machined stuff. Also what are the frets made of? Stainless steel is basically indestructable and industry standard now. Are they well rounded on the edges? This is the stuff players of expensive guitars would be looking for.

As much as I enjoy this channel I have to be honest and say that your guitar reviews are something I take with a grain of salt. Your playing is unfortunately sloppy and you do not have much control over your fingers it seems. That makes it difficult for me to believe that you have the ability to fully judge the instrument in a way that will translate to others. I know that this will probably be interpreted as an attack on you but that is not my intention. My suggestion is to do two persons reviews kind of like how Andertons do where the guitarist who is more skilled plays most of the time.

The fact this guy takes the time to review a product AND does a great job taking more of his own time to edit is beyond any ego driven dude such as yourself taking 15 seconds to comment. Remember a review is nothing but an honest critique an individual shares in opinion. I would like to suggest you aren’t qualified to give a review of this channel because your Fingers point directly at yourself, as if you feel you are guitar players voice and ambassador. Maybe you should start that Channel and see what numbers of subscribers you get when you start talking about yourself and how you know more than the next guy..let us know it goes. Right now I live in South-East Asia (guitar market is pretty much the same in the area). And a couple of weeks ago a guy came to an exchange program to our university. He wanted to buy an electric guitar from digital marketplace (Lazada to be precise) just to noodle around sometimes. Not gonna lie, I’m quite a guitar snob, so when I’ve learned he bought it for ≈70$ my first question was ironic “will it come assembled?”. And when it actually came, he gave it to me to set it up, as I was the only person capable of doing that around. When I’ve spent some time with it I was actually impressed, and to my surprise in a positive way. It wasn’t any sort of guitar-like product identical to music instrument, It was an actual guitar! Factory set up was pretty decent. String height was good to my taste, and intonation didn’t take long time to fix. Frets were very good, nothing was cutting trough my arm and they were polished very good. Tbh, those frets looked way better then some on Mexican teles. Guitar stays in tune, has quite recognizable tele tone, and have high-quality assembly, with no neck gap, and have a perfect(I’m not exaggerating) fretwork. I had only two concerns about this guitar, first one is factory pickup setup, it was so low that it was taking only high notes and also picking up resonance of tele bridge. I didn’t quite get it what was wrong with it at first, but then I looked at it again and it was almost body level. Took me like 15 seconds to fix. The other issue is just aesthetics. 5/6 of the body are made of quite identical planks of actual wood, but 1/6 at the bottom is a completely different color. We’ll, I guess that most of guitar is made of poplar, but this low appendix is made of maple. Why? Idk. But do we have a right to bitch over a guitar for 70$ that actually does the job? I’ve actually had so much fun with it, recording a small demo with a 70$ guitar into a ≈20$ audio interface, and I’m really happy that kids and guys from lower income parts of the world can now afford an actual electric guitar. Ps the guitar is called MartinLee, and has no serial number or any information in terms of where it’s made, so I can’t say for sure if it’s made in China or Indonesia, or any other country. But you got the point
@ikipearl7 ай бұрын
I can totally understand the 'guitar snob' comment, I mean spending Gibson prices for your guitar, then finding one that was built for $70...is a $70 guitar going to be as good as a multi thousand dollar guitar, of course not ... but is the expensive one really 25 or 30 times better .... people bad mouth cheap guitars, they have to justify their purchase some how .. just one guy talking🙏

I feel like the type of wood used might still be a good reason to shop for USA made (or a specific region of the world) because I've heard there's a whole variety of wood types that are banned from being imported into the USA. So buying a chinese/indonesian/japanese/european etc. CNC guitar is not a quality problem anymore, but if you wanted a specific type of wood for the body/fingerboard/neck that is banned for import in your country, you're better off looking for it locally. (Obviously this only matters for the look and feel of the guitar as we've established that tone wood matters little to nothing in the sound recording of a mixed guitar, but I feel it's still a somewhat valid argument)

Still out of my price range! LOL. I can't justify paying any more than $200 for a guitar after buying two Firefly guitars and seeing the quality of those. I've played everything from USA made strats, MIM strats, Gibson Les Paul Studio (also USA made), Squiers, Harley Bentons, Lyx, Yamaha, Schecter, etc., and the Firefly's blow them all away at the price and quality they are made at. I still shake my head every time I get one and wonder how they can build them so good, so cheap. Loved the bit with the Eastman guitar! I've been playing an Eastman acoustic for almost a decade. It's all solid wood and was around $600. I went into a well known guitar shop here in Michigan called Elderly Instruments and played everything from around $1500 on down and that guitar was the best sounding, both acoustic and amped.

What needs to be common knowledge is that you can truly get a *killer* guitar for 300.00 to 500.00, both new and used. I bought a Jet Telecaster off off Reverb a few months ago. Had not seen any reviews, or heard anything from internet sources. It was a total crapshoot. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Actually shocked and excited. A 300.00 guitar that was every bit as good as my Fender Baja (I think I paid 700.00 or 800.00 for it) and my G&L ASAT. I took it to my luthier, for a set up. He's been doing repair work for decades, and has seen everything, guitar wise. He was genuinely floored by the guitar. He kept asking me, "You paid how much for this?" That's just one example among many, of absolutely top notch guitars for 300.00 to 500.00. My days of paying seven, eight hundred or even one thousand to fifteen hundred for a guitar are *OVER*. Let the gear snobs pay the high prices, I'm done.

The real question is does it beats a Solar Type S that comes out with an Evertune for 700$ cheaper ? or a Schecter C-1 with a genuine Floyd Rose ? 2199$ is a lot of money for a guitar that doesn't offer any kind high-end hardware. I really don't see where are the extra 500 to 700$ compared to what is found on the marketed with Made in Korea or Indonesia guitars.

I agree. Sure it looks nice, and according to Glenn, it plays nice, but the hardware is the real question. Is this thing going to hold tuning after the 100th time restringing it? It reminds me of when the Floyd Rose Special came out, and people were excited that "budget" guitars were getting real Floyd Roses, only to find out that the parts were cheap and wear easily so you lose tuning stability fairly quickly.

It comes down to grades of wood, hardware & electronics, and worker skill. Overseas manufacturers are trying to meet a price point. When I did own the MIA guitars there's a hard to define & describe sense of "quality" that comes with them. Other than that, I've found I'm happier with a well made import that I can upgrade if I want to. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. My latest acquisitions are Epiphones and Gretches, and the build quality is amazing on all of them.

cool guitar! Only one thing that stands out is the sharp edges on the high end of the fret board. Why so square? Also, FedEx? Not DHL or the USPS? Interesting.

Glen, it is awesome to see how your video production got better and better over time. Congrats and keep up with one of the best REAL music information out there. 🤘

Love to see Glenn rocking the Kyuss shirt🔥🔥🔥 People really take for granted how much those first 3 albums shaped the sound of 90s american heavy metal and laid the groundwork for the desert scene

Eastman (Beijing guitar brand) does laps around most Les Pauls I've played. Love my SB57

The production cost is not the same in China vs USA, there is no comparision possible and yet second hand for 1k you can get awesome guitars made by very reliable builders in way more honest countries than China, countries that at least has workers rights. So yes paying 1k for a Chinese made gitar is not wise at all!.

You can get an ltd or schecter MIK for roughly half that. Or a MIM evh or charvel for half that.

Everything is doomed here. McDonald's quality has slid and they want $13 for a value meal. It's going to hell in a handbasket here.

By the way Glen I’ve seen Asian made instruments almost on that price range. The Chinese made Jackson San Dimas Gus.G Signature was above $1500 and quality was stellar ;)

So I can buy a Chinese made Harley Benton for 200 or a Chinese made Keipro for 2200 that sounds exactly the same. Maybe I'm cheap, but 2000 for some blue wood dye is shouting the word sucker very loudly.

Glenn stoked on the shirt. My guitarist and I have argued for years over which the better Album. Blues or Circus leaves town. Blues kills it every tune

Ordered a Fender Stratocaster from the MOD shop a couple years ago. Got it and when I opened it there was paint missing on the bottom right edge. They obviously buffed it too hard. Over 2k for that! I contacted them and they never even responded. It’s nice to see competition. I’m putting that strat up on reverb soon. Every time I look at it I get pissed off.

Why would you dock points for a bridge that does exactly what it’s supposed to? It’s not a Floyd, so it’s not supposed to dive bomb like a double locking trem. Killer looking guitar, would be interested to see what other guitars they have.

Nice work with the Pantera riff and I like the "curb your enthusiasm" music at the beginning of the video. Doesn't seem like a bad guitar.

I haven't bought new instruments for like 15 years. Recently i found it this channel, watched some videos and decided to put Glenn's words to the test. I've ordered a 300$ bass from china. (Aria Pro II. Its Japanese brand, but most of their instruments are being made in China nowadays) And compared it to my old Musicman bass (made in USA) only to find out this 300$ bass aren't any worse despite huge price difference. Also i've made a mistake, i've bought pickups before this bass arrived only to find out stock pickups are just fine. :) So yes, Glenn is right. With those CNC machines its doesn't matter where instruments are being made. And stock picks up are just fine even on inexpensive instruments. Folks! listen to this dude. He is trying hard to save you a lot of money!

Sweet guitar and nice review. Although if that gig bag is as good as it looks in the video, I think that's the way better option than a hardshell case. Super heavy duty padded gig bags (a la Mono, Reunion Blues, etc.) are way more practical for touring, etc.

I’m eventually going to mod one of my guitars with just the bridge pup. Then remove the pots and have just one switch for on/off. No volume no tone no selector cause I only need the bridge at 100. Probably take off four of the tuners as well.

They made sure they sent a flawless model configured to your specs. Not exactly a "regular buyer/blind purchase experience". They did leave a good first impression though. I'm noticing if the instruments made in China are done by companies that specialize in musical instruments seem to do a much better job than factories where it's "just another product" being produced. I am mostly in a different but related circle and I know many companies will have their "budget" lines done in China and parts of Asia, using lesser expensive materials(usually) so as to make the products more affordable, while keeping their more "flagship" products in their "made in America" locations and often using more premium materials. The price tags certainly reflect those differences. I don't see how the American brands are gonna get away with continuing to charge such high prices when it's becoming more common to get the same or better at a much lower price. What we haven't seen yet is "how do they stand up to the test of time". I'm hoping that these instruments also hold up in that as well.

Beautiful guitar. You are right about quality coming from China, and Indonesia.I know Boucher is having Eastman make some very nice acoustics with the Boucher name. The upper scale ones are way over two grand.I still love your playing!
