Do you tend to keep clients and look after them over a period of years? What is your work / life balance?

It is interesting to research who funds globally the styling and imbedded training/beliefs which are passed onto students doing a qualification in what is called Speech and language therapist. A speech therapy session involves first learning how to connect with a learner and that in itself takes time. All of us know that the system does not offer enough sessions to make much of an impact unless enough sessions are provided. The standard once a week is obviously bizarre? The therapy materials/sessions look like they are corporation designed. Appropriate meaningful differentiation for training seems amiss. and very close to packages which come from corporations who seem to think a narrow portfolio of methods fits all, which of course it does not. The sessions are there but I believe they need huge supplementation from parents who certainly know how to communicate and connect with their child better than any other person. We can as parents explore giving training at home with a child. Parents are the first to know how to differentiate training/teaching to suit the communication methods which connect with their child. It is a must for us parents to explore giving supportive training at home daily. Once a week (two if your lucky) with a therapist who believes they know the ways of a child along with many other child clients is helpful but it is not enough. To rely on such a low level of training input can delay progress and I believe trap a child into weak development and possibly being in the system up into adult age. A constant customer? Planned regular training at home not only supplements that which a working therapist can do but it also involves common sense, the more therapy given, the better the progress. Seek out home training books/materials, take a close look at how therapy is given, the methods used and you will see that you as a parent easily qualify to give your child regular quality training at home. You can do it.

Hi. My son is autistic. He started speaking many words meaningfully like Cow, Dog, etc. but when I ask him what's this he never answers. This is happening from 3 the last 3-4 months. Can you please tell us what should we do? We are from India and we already don't listen to his gesture requests.

Find a good SLP , private or school or both .. pay attention to non verbal alway first and for most , sign language , picture exchange communication and sing song your words … be patient .. kids on the spectrum are considered late talkers so pay attention to gestures always ❤ best to you !!’

@@deedee9312 Thanks a lot for replying back. We know two children of same age and they started speaking at 4.5 and fully communicating at 5. He is 5.1 still no communication but speech is there. Today he spoke many vegetable names. He is already going to school. We talked to an expert therapist, she said keep asking him What's this? For the things you are sure he knows. We are doing it. For example; when he looks at ginger he says ginger and then we ask him what is this by pointing to ginger and he doesn't say a word. If we ask him where is ginger then he points it correctly.

I’m not a language pathologist but I am autistic. I’m not a doctor so say my words with a grain of salt. You questioning him may help causing him to feel demand avoidant? I know it would bother me if someone asked me what’s this? It just makes me feel frustrated. Have you tried asking him in a different way?

@@aicfybecause it’s obvious from what he said that he knows the words it might just be bothering him that you’re asking him even though he’s already shown he knows? Some autistic people don’t like questions

I can tell you alot Speech & Laugage, it only consists of 50 words in child development. After being discharged from a Speech Therapist, people learn manners & polite. They can even go to taro card reader have intuition & instinct reading people. It isn't a permanent problem. It people are unfriendly it usually means, you have called it thick & stupid. Were people thought it was a permanent problem.
