It's taken a long time to get to this which has geven me some clarity on thing to do with scales which I enjoy. That fact I have your book has made me embarrassed for I have not past the first section so from this clip my project is to read your book all the way through and definitely start the speed burst exercise thank you

So this sounds quite helpful for training pure burst as opposed to just practicing pieces and scales at slower tempos due to the idea of giving your brain and fingers time to process the speed. I often feel like I can only play quickly if the piece is extremely practiced, and so I lack speed during improv passages a lot. Perhaps it is simply the chunking process that is so effective, I am not sure. In any case, excited to give it a try.

Hi Gohar and that is helpful for students and very clear. You don't mention string crossing/different finger combinations etc but I wondered what your advice would be on i/m versus m/i in acsending/descending string crossings? eg: Perhps starting with i first time/m second time and observing/overcoming potential problems cause by the different lengths of these two fingers, which in some players can be quite pronounced. I can see how this would be helpful when practising a Rodrigo Concierto, especially the descending which always needs exercise. What metronome are you using? It sounds good.

Gohar Vardanyan i recommend bestdrumtrainer.com/st/ it can be configured to increase/decrase every x seconds and can mute over bars etc.. ll rhythm u can think of (mixed!) and its for free. great for speed training.

I was just thinking, this would be a great lesson for a semi advanced student, I think if a beginner or a 2nd /3rd year student tried it it would probably do damage to their playing because they will loose the important legato phrasing just trying to get anything over 4 note groupings. Perhaps one should do this but then also try to do it with legato. Ill try it tonight but just up to 4 note groupings - don't think I can handle irregular amounts at the moment.

You're absolutely right, these wouldn't right for a beginner, mostly because their hand probably won't have the accuracy and speed necessary to do the bursts in a way that will benefit them. Give them a try, even the odd number once aren't too hard, you just have to get used to the sound :-) good luck and happy practicing! Gohar

Bare skin causes friction pepe Romano uses a scarf on the side ana vidovic has a bevel cut in her guitar if you gave a ling skeave shirt it wont be nessasary

It protects the finish of a french-polished guitar and also allows the arm to shift more freely. Skin generally sticks to a guitar, so using an arm band or wearing a long-sleeved shirt helps a great deal.
