The Speed Engine Failure Vef is different compared to the Decision Speed V1.
The Speed Engine Failure is the most critical point at which an engine failure can occur, the V1 is the decision speed at which the Captain has to make the decision to abort or continue the take-off.
The difference stands in the recognition time, which usually is 1 second.

You are very welcome! In real life you don't need to calculate the Vef, you need to know your v1 and take any decision before or after the v1

Captain Gabrielle, all other parameters being equal- QNH, Temperature,Altitude, Runway braking action etc 1. at V1 assuming we have a long enough runway( more ASDA), do we abort takeoff? 2. at V1 if we have a relatively shorter runway(ASDA critical), we continue on one engine?

Great Question! V1 is always a decision speed regardless of the runway lenghts, once you calculate the V1 (taking into account all the factors for that specific situation) for your take-off you need respect this parameter. Have a great day!

Hello Gabriele, Can you give in example with numbers so that we can have a better image, please? Is the Recognition time always = 1 second? So if V1 is at 133 knots for example, what speed is VEf? Because the aircraft is accelerating and I need the acceleration to calculate the speed at 1 second before V1.

This value change depending on the speed. The faster the V1 the higher wil be the gap expressed in knots within the rtecognition time (1 sec.) in real life we don't calculate the vef for every take-off, we only calculate v1
