The biggest thing for me when I did some speed training last year was speeding up my backswing. Ian has a slow and deliberate backswing (as do I) and just speeding EVERYTHING up instantly unlocked a few MPH.

I’m the opposite of this😂 I tried it out and I simply couldn’t get the ball moving fast enough. Learned to have a slower backswing and I’m hitting it faster than I was before. I guess everybody has a different method, and that’s the beauty of golf. Here’s to 300yd bombs🥂!

I’m in. Just tuned into this channel the past year. Surprised to say this but Mikey has inspired me. 64 years old, 152 lbs, 16 handicap. Current max is 97 Swing and 142 Ball speeds. Was committed to a program to increase speed over the winter and now I’ll have group motivation. Just finished my 2nd week of physical training with a golf personal trainer and the Super Speed sticks arrived earlier this week. Goal is 105 Swing and 152 Ball speeds by 4/1/24. Confident.

@@Husker_ Thanks for asking Husker as your question brought a smile to me this morning. Yes, I did hit my goal. I maxed out at 106 CS and 152 BS since the challenge. I reviewed my launch monitor stats (had a Rapsodo MLM when the speed journey began and bought a Skytrak in January) and my last range session (6/1/24) had me at a Driver average of 97 CS and 142 BS which was an increase of 3 MPH CS and 5 MPH BS (averages since the speed journey began) . Maxes on my 6/1 session were 104 and 151. New goal for calendar year 2024 is average of 100 CS and 145 BS. Still using the speed sticks a few times per week and doing my once a week golf personal training. Its a challenge but if Rory can do what he's doing at 5'10" and 162 lbs a skinny old fella like me can pick up a few mph here and there!

That seems to be really common (making gains and then plateauing or even losing gains) in speed training. If you watch videos and interviews that Dr. Sasho Mackenzie has done about his research, coaching, and training on speed training, he talks about this quite often. He addresses this specifically in this video "The Stack System: Speed Increase Expectations" kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipOQooSrbZqefqc

I am extremely happy to see you understand and under take the long drive/speed journey. As a 60 year old rookie, I was fortunate enough to meet and work with Bobby Peterson. I continue to support long drive am will always be a huge fan. The road you're going to take will be difficult with plenty of ups and downs. I can assure you that the ups will out way the downs. Also, remember the five pillars of the long drive swing; stability, mobility, flexibility, strength and speed. Do not forsake any of them. You do not want to injure yourself. Good luck to you both and anyone else who decides to take the journey. I am Dennis "just an old fat man" Duncan. FORE!

Want to get my gamer swing consistently over 120ss. I think driving ranges with launch monitors are a massive motivation 😁

I started doing SuperSpeed training the last spring and just started tapering down because of work/life. But I came into the year around where Mike is (106 club, 157 ball). Just after doing the first level of training, I was up to 112 club and 163 ball. I eventually got through level 3 before and peaked near 120 club and 180 ball speed before taking a break, but I may start up again during the winter. Even after a couple months just playing and going to the gym without speed training, I still am around 115 club and 170 ball. The only issue I encountered in terms of playing with more speed was I was hitting my drives way higher. I switched from chrome soft x to ProV1 to lower the flight and have now been working on some swing changes to reduce my angle of attack and lower launch the launch angle to lower the height and get more roll 🔥

I also have a Swing Emulator that can be adjusted to any arm length, swing plane and height up to 6ft 6. Work on a a stack of weights from 10 - 100lbs. Warm ups are at 4O lbs taking it beyond parallel on the backc swing. I usually don’t play in senior tournaments anymore!! 😊

I started doing this about 3 weeks ago, never done it before. I’ve paid for a 6 lesson package with a pro who teaches swing speed near me, some of the movements are crazy but actually think it will improve my overall swing in the long run. Don’t know if this is something you guys want to try, but when I have lessons with him he just has the clubhead speed and ball speed on screen, nothing else. Not even the tracer so you have no idea where the balls gone, it’s a good way of letting loose and not worrying about where the balls going. Current PB’s are 113.3mph CHS and 166.5mph ball speed on trackman. Goal for spring is 120 club speed

Started swinging as fast as I could every time I played or went to the range. 5 minutes as fast as you can. Done Superspeed and worked hard with kettlebells. Cruising now around 115mph with an 80 gram F5 UST shaft. Can max out at 120 when I lose control with same shaft. You can do it! You've already proven you can. We have expectations!

Good stuff gents, I’ve been on a speed journey all summer. Loads of technique work, courtesy of the boys at Elite Golf School KZbin channel. But the biggest focuses for me have been, technical, intent and reactiveness. All starting right at the beginning of the swing. Creating a swing trigger, take the club back a fast as I can and letting the body react to the additional speed input has worked wonders. Put more in and your body will react with more speed out. That’s a guarantee

Gonna join you on the journey!! I'll be 53 at the beginning of 2024 & have been doing the Superspeed training on & off for the past year & a half, and am in the maintenance mode right now, once a week to keep the speeds up. Hitting 121mph with the green stick at the end of my sessions. Driver speed was averaging at 107mph during a lesson back in June (where I also some how heeled one & broke my driver head (Epic Max), which Callaway replaced with a Rogue ST Max, kept my shaft which plays a 1/2" shorter than stock) and I think I got a bit quicker as the summer progressed, probably close to 110mph. Living in a cold climate like you guys (Ottawa) I'll be training indoors to get the speeds up. Will match my goals with you guys, about 4mph every 3 months, which should get my driver around 118mph by April 🤞

I was a mid/high 140 ball speed until this summer when I was able to hit 158 and cruise at 155. I caught a cold and my speed dropped significantly from lack of practice and just not feeling well. Looking forward to getting it back with some good practice! Speed training works, but make sure you are supplementing it with physical fitness. Instant ball speed gains come from hard trail hand motions. You will hit some crazy duck hooks at first, but you learn to time it. That's the fastest way to get the club and ball moving quickly before you figure out the timing, IMO. Good luck, everyone!

You and Mikey team up in a scramble format and tackle a bunch of different courses. 30-45min sim course vlogs would be perfect for the audience, and keep you guys active over the winter. Flexibility is a major factor in club head speed as well. As you shown in the clips with Martin, his lead shoulder comes all the way across his body on his take away, to be at the point where his right shoulder was on set up. Also with the speed training both Martin and Kyle have said that you almost want to try to bend the shaft on take away to generate enough force for that extra shoulder turn, and in turn doing so when your at the top of your swing, the club shaft is still bending “backwards” so when your coming down attacking the ball there is more “snap” or flex of the shaft creating that club head speed. There are other factors as well of course, but flexibility and quick twitch muscle response are the big ones.

Be great if in your next session you defined a particular set of measurement (club speed , ball speed , carry etc ) as your control and offered a formula for where other measurement tools ( trackman etc) would be compared to your quad ! I currently measure ball speed and carry on a trackman range - ( ie radars in the field not the real trackman ) and register 170mph ball like 290 carry Would be a really welcome yrd stick for group participation in this hopefully winter series for us without affordable access to £30k measurement tools

@@ianfrasergolfI would say it might apply to better golfers, but less skilled golfers will have their form and strikes get worse swinging fast with poor swings, which means more bad drives and OB. Then there is injury caused by over stressing your body. This fascination with speed is not for everyone.

I did some speed training a few years ago and can confirm it WORKS. I ran into some injury problems though. I have an iffy lower back and would strain it after about a month or two of work. I have been working on my fitness level, including some physical therapy type workouts focusing on the back. I'd be curious to see if I gave it another go with speed training in combination with fitness work that I could sustain it. My memory is that I was similar to Mikey. I'd hover at about 95 to 100 mph clubhead speed with a driver on course. I was pushing 120mph with the lightest speed stick. On course I could push 105 to 110.

Curious if you’ve always had the back problems or the training brought it on? I’m 51 and floating around 90 mph and can’t hit anything out of my shadow. Had a demo iron I threw in a shaft that was 15 grams heavier than I had been playing to practice with and now I’m seeing some back issues. Curious, like you if the combination would work.

@@norwegianwarhound451 I have a history of lower back pain. It came about more as my level of fitness declined.

Not worth the injury risk. The forces you’re asking your back to manage will most likely lead re-injury. You’re feeling pain for a reason. Have you had an MRI to see if you have any disc disease?

Fun video. I just broke 170 BS for the first time. Hover around 109 CHS on course and around 162 BS. Tinkering on my sim a few days ago decided to pump it up. Oddly enough the faster I try to swing the better I seem to hit it. (Told my fitter I wanna swing as hard as I can and I want the shaft to square it up for me haha. Fit into tensei 1k orange 60x) Had 10 balls 170 plus record me is 172.2 ball. Would love to get to 180 and be comfortable at 175 +/- playing speed. Took the “just hammer driver hard as I can” on course the following day. Top 3 day for the best I’ve hit it all season.

Thought Mikey was gonna pass out! Just kidding, great job. Looking forward to Mikey building some speed to add to his already good golf game. Maybe he can move back from the senior tees after this.

Awesome series! Got fit last week and got 292yrds total with driver. Bought a training aid for speed (shaft with weights) and hopefully I can gain some speed by training everyday. Wanna get the super speed sticks soon!😬

Mikey & Ian (especially) should take a look at Gabe Galluci's speed journey. His work on driver speed (and swing technique) has allowed him to hit his irons so much further, not only his driver. His ball speeds seem ridiculous compared to a few years ago when he first started vlogging.

Love it great motivation to push hard on the off season I hover around 107 110mph I've hit it 290 sometimes 300 but would love to see 315 320 I've ordered some speed sticks and I'll hit the sim 1 every other weekend

Got to love Mikey's reaction at hitting 107...class. That said, do proceed with caution; their are joint and muscles being pushed to zones that are will require some care. In the past, whenever I have tried to go "all out" my neck, shoulder and lower back required a good amount of time to recover; hence, not a fan of the recovery time.

It’s definitely it something to go head first into without consideration for the physical toll. Nothing is free and a price will be paid but we’re planning to do this over time and under good supervision.

My climate of work sucks . I fly in and fly out for work for 2 weeks on 1 week off . So start improving game and speed on week off then back to normal after 2 weeks work . No real facilities for speed training 😢😢
