Speedy 1973 VW Thing Narrowed Type 1 Beetle Front Beam & Disc Brake Conversion! Mileage Unknown Ep57

On this Mileage Unknown we are wrenching on another one of our project cars. My brothers 1973 Volkswagen Thing Speedy! We are finally getting Speedy low by doing a Type 1 Beetle front beam conversion. We are removing the entire Type 181 thing beam and swapping it with a narrowed type 1 beetle beam at the same time we do a Disc brake conversion that doesn't go quite as planned.
Some of you have shown interest in my VW 4 speed shift pattern hat and Travis and I have started making some! We'll be adding new hats with different colors and styles and patches! Spacers at the bottom are the caster shims for alignment purposes. 🤙

Looks great guys! If you’re having issues still with the ride height and having suspension, preload the top torsion more.

Once we got the back end down the front end came up a bit, we cranked the adjusters up a bit 2 so it's got some suspension now lol

3" narrowed 1 1/2" either side. Im looking at mine did the new shock towers hit the inner wheel well? looks like i have only maybe 3/4" clearance?

Man I really can't remember I would think you'd be safe on a 3" it seems like some people say the 4" is really tight and might require some body mod....

IVOR WM well my brother just contacted me of course after I got the vid posted and we’re thinking we got some misspackage pads think there should have been an inner/outer pad not sure why the passenger side went right together and the driver didn’t but it brakes really well!

IVOR WM I knew whatcha meant lol I was so beat by the end of the day I was calling the rotor a caliper lol 😂
