Perhaps things go bump in the night occasionally because a large portion of the floor is missing, allowing for critters to come in and investigate. P.S. Be careful with armadillos as they can carry and transmit Hansen's disease, aka leprosy - not only from handling the animals but from the soil they burrow and poop in.

I copied this from the Find a Grave website. Thought it might be of interest to you (the little girl passed in the master bedroom on the floor): A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE HANDY PISTOL GETS IN ITS WORK A LITTLE GIRL KILLED Another household has been thrown into the deepest grief by a pistol! News reached Talbotton of a terrible accident that happened at the home of Mr. Henry Byrd, 10 miles from here on Sunday evening last. Mr. Byrd, who is a well-to-do young farmer, took his pistol and loaded it with and went out and fired two or three shots into his watermelon patch to frighten thieves, coming back home he left the pistol on a bureau in his room and walked out. In another moment he heard the pistol fire and rushed into the room to find his little nine-year-old daughter, Willie, the idol of his heart, in the agonies of death, with a ball from the horrible weapon through her head. After laying the pistol down his little girl and her cousin, aged 11 years, and daughter of Mr. G. A. Byrd, both went into the room and began to play with the pistol. They had been playing with it in the forenoon and then it was unloaded. The now unhappy father saw them where they went after he came out of the room and he cautioned them not to trouble the pistol as it was now loaded. It was scarcely a second before the fatal shot was fired. The eldest girl killed her cousin. Just how it was done is not known. It is of course supposed that the elder one snapped the pistol at the younger one as she did in the forenoon, not thinking it was loaded. Talbontton, GA. Herald --transcribed by Kerry 48011981

Well, if any spirits were out and about Blue would have been sensitive to them, and he seemed cool as a cucumber, so I'd take that as a good sign.🙂 Thanks for taking us along! That really was fun. Glad you slept good. I'd be sleeping with a/c (I'm a wimp🥵) but you wanted to rough it, and that you did! Proud of you!🥳 So that particular room gives y'all the eebie jeebies?? There's probably an "energy" left behind of someone who maybe died there?👻 It doesn't have to be unfriendly. In fact, if that's true, then it seems pretty tolerant of you and Blue. Probably likes the restoration you're doing. And Blue's a good boy and everyone loves a good boy!🐶💙

Lol, for not believing, you were scared of ghosts😅. No, just kidding, most are afraid of the dark. Just so you know, spirits exist all around us. Not that they'll show us. Goosebumps can be a sign of a presence, too. You have a great friend in the dog, they sense spirits much better than us. If there was something there, he would bark or show fear, neither happened. Also, you may have residual sounds that repeat like footsteps. It's in the products of the building. Especially if you have any lime in your cement or elsewhere. It's like a tape recorder. It will take the cries, screams, laughter, footsteps, etc., of the past and repeat over and over. That is not a spirit. Well, this was fun. Good luck and God Bless!

Blue seems very comfortable in the house, so that's a good sign, right? I don't usually disagree with you, but I have to this time - you've never had a paranormal experience? In an abandoned place? Didn't you crawl out from under a house backwards one time because you heard footsteps above you in an empty house? I would rate that paranormal, since it really couldn't be explained. I am proud of you for investigating the noise of the metal detector falling over this time, especially in light of your priceless reaction when it happened. Glad you made it through the night!

If the dog is relaxed that's always a good sign. If they are visibly worried or barking at things that's when you need to be concerned. I stopped doing doing things like this several years back after I had a very bad incident happen at one of the places. I never used to be afraid, I never was worried for my safety, and I never felt uncomfortable in the least but until something pretty crazy happened to me. But that's a long story and for another day.

Your house definitely looks spooky at night but nothing I would be afraid of. The only thing I would worry about is an animal coming in while sleeping but usually animals stay away from humans. I like old houses with the history and the beautiful architecture and craftsmanship that doesn’t exist today. I live in a house that is almost as old as yours. Mine was built in 1883 and only had one small addition in the kitchen back in the 1920’s. My house looks spooky at night too. My girlfriend refuses to sleep overnight because she says old houses scare the daylights out of her even if I turned on all of the lights. She has watched too many horror movies. I’m glad that you sleeping in your house went well. In your situation it’s more like camping.

It doesn’t feel off to me in any way. I’m curious about the upstairs. Is there a second floor or just an attic? There’s so much to think about with it having been empty for 25 years. But, for me I think the 100+ years before that are what is most intriguing. You filled a spot closer than anyone had in a long time, to the people and events that made it a home. I imagine the happy times, holidays and company, good food coming from the kitchen, safety on cold or stormy nights, so much good to be thankful for in the history of OBF! It’s such a privilege to be invited to watch you bring it back to life. Thank you!
