A lot of media lately has portrayed Spidey's Classic Suit as a physical representation of the end of his character arc, leaving him without his iconic comic book costume for most of the time spent with that version of the character. Let's talk about why I think that's become a problem.

I completely agree I would much rather see a baggier and homemade red and black ditko suit with exposed webs and everything and then after a little while he gets a classic red and blue suit than just something that just looks ridiculous.

@spider9886 it's red and black for amazing fantasy 15, issue 1 and issue 2 (although it appears purple a lot). I understand your frustration, I really do, you must be sick of it but parker is based on Steve ditko who made the original spidey run in high school. So to respect the creator, use black plus makes sense as a homemade suit to use black idk, makes sense. Your take is still valid and I totally get it and wouldn't mind one costume for the whole show being homemade and red and blue like you want (unless you still want two costumes but red and blue). Steve ditko originally wanted spidey to be orange and purple so he stood out so idk.

I think the best way to handle it is by having Peter making a really low quality version of the classic suit, like having his lenses just be cuts in the mask or making the back logo taped on, and then later he would make the same suit that just doesn’t look like it was last second Halloween costume

I disagree with the idea of the homemade suit being played out. I think it makes sense for Peter (a broke New York teenager) to just throw on anything he could get his hands on and make a costume out of it. I also feel like we shouldn’t split hairs and give passes to the wrestler suits due to them having the same function and purpose despite the context. Now that being said, I feel like the proto suit shouldn’t overstay its welcome. If it’s in a show then it should only be in the first episode or in flashbacks. I find it super annoying that sometimes they’ll just have peter wear the proto outfit for a whole season, it’s super lame (I also hated the Daredevil show for doing that to but that proto suit grew on me). Homecoming missed an opportunity by not having Peter create a homemade 2.0 suit at the end of the Locke instead of being given back the stark suit. While it still has the issue of “earning” the suit, at least we’d have had the classic design for most of the movie and it would tie better into his arc of not being defined by Stark’s technology. It defeats the whole purpose of staying low to the ground if he turns down a multi-billion dollar suit only to be given back the multi-million dollar suit. I’m just tired of the homemade suit always being depicted as looking like garbage for the sake of “realism” because it’s entirely possible to make a good looking Spider-man costume on a budget. It doesn’t even need to look pristine, it just needs to look like Spider-man and not a last minute Halloween costume that’s more focused on keeping you warm instead of looking like the character

@@Monster-Man-kb8bi And this might be a hot take, but the theatre suit for Cap objectively looks great. Sure, it’s not something you’d wear to battle, but the structure and colours work great. Which is why the Smithsonian suit in Winter Soldier is my favourite of his costumes because of the bright colours, the red stripes being actual red stripes, and the streamlined structure compared to the WW2 suit (especially the grey bits between the blue and white). I do think his suit in Avengers wound have worked better with the aesthetic of other characters having similar structures/materials and the cowl being better

I feel like the “earning the suit” trope only works with legacy characters like Miles Morales who have to grow into their own person, and it just doesn’t work with a character like Peter who we’ve known for so long that seeing him have to “earn” his classic costume just feels so uninteresting

Honestly, the homemade suit concept was done perfectly in amazing spider-man. Sure his homemade suit is rough, but it doesn't overstay its welcome, and the reveal of the actual suit is fantastic #TRZ4K

It's probably because people want a good reason to make him wear different costumes. Spider-man is one of the most fun characters to redesign, but to just constantly give him another suit without a reason wouldn't feel right storywise. It's a lot easier to put a redesign in a game without there being a reason than in a show or movie.

I think a transition to the classic suit COULD work if they properly adapted If This Be My Destiny, which in my opinion is when Spider-Man truly becomes Spider-Man. Have the original suit tear up under the debris so he has to make a new one, replacing the dark black with a bright blue to symbolize his character growth to being a more friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But the movies unfortunately botched that plotline.

For me personally id rather see the classic suit be a character development thing more than him "earning it" , the classic suit represents alot of things, including peter as his best self in my personal opinion, if i were to adapt the character I'd give him a costume that basically is the classic suit with afew changes, something more agressive looking at first when hes just starting out, and as he gets older the more classic colors and friendlier eyes come in as he develops. I think the moment the red suit should gain it's full symbolism is when Peter uses it again after getting rid of the black. Obviously it should have had been stablished as Peter main suit before hand.

Yeah, because of your post I was thinking of a Spider-Man story where he makes the classic suit immediately, and I am so dumb for not realizing that is LITERALLY what happens in the original comics. I mean, heck, at least do what the Ultimate Comics did where the "homemade suit" was close to the original (it was the normal suit without webs, it looked kinda weird and I thought they forgot to put webs at first, lol, but it still worked better imo). And I totally agree that it should start out as the classic suit, just not as perfected. Make it almost like a halloween costume, something Peter makes out of scraps. But still look like Spider-Man. Heck, if YOU can make a version of the classic suit like you do, why can't Peter? I'd rather him see him in a costume like the ones you've created than...whatever the heck they keep giving him

Yeah, like the guys said, it's different. The suit was made for wrestling, representing Peter's hunger for money, selfishness, letting the criminal go, and letting Uncle Ben die. Peter definitely wouldn't wear something that reminds him of his past, so the scene of Peter doing a close-up shot looking at his classic drawing and changing the suit after that makes sense.

I kinda disagree, I don't mind Peter having a prototype suit, he is a genius, yes but he is a bio chemistry student with computer and engineering skills, he isn't a fashion student, So Peter having a Cheep Suit put together suit at first works, I feel like what Andrew's Peter did when he is do research and looking for materials to use for a better suit was a good way to have Peter get his suit, I personally like when Peter is brain stoming when making his suits and doing research

I’ve always believed that the classic suit in No Way Home was never the original intent. If it was then they would have had an easy out in Homecoming, where the whole point of the movie was Peter figuring out how to be a hero without relying on Stark and his gadgets. They could’ve introduced the classic suit then but instead he gets back his Stark suit and gets even more Stark inventions in the following movies. To be honest, something that the McU tends to do is that they don’t like having regular street based heroes, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to make big grand spectacles out of them during the large crossover events. They did the same with Moon Knight, where they straight up confirmed that he has magic in the MCU and that he really is the avatar of an Egyptian god. As opposed to the comics, where the existence of Khonsu is typically always up in the air.

At 1:18, you mentioned that Peter’s a genius, so he should have a proper Spider-Man suit at the very beginning. First of all, being a genius at science doesn’t make him a genius at sewing, I study fashion design, and trust me, I’ve had a hassle learning how to properly sew. So, yeah, I don’t get why u guys are so like: “He should just sew a costume” no, trust me, is so much harder than it looks like, it’s a process. You have to do the 3D model, the patterns (not only for the suit, but for yourself as well), you have to know what kind of needle to use of elastic fabric, what kind of fabric, the first sketch, the more elaborate sketch, and a large etc. Sewing superhero suits IS NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS.

Sorry but, I disagree. I think you're making a big deal about something that doesn't need to be a big deal. It could also be that I love the new homemade suit in the new show, but I like the way it works. The one thing I would also point out in the new show is it seems more like a representation of Spideys alliances. Once allied with Oscorp he got a new upgraded suit. He wasn't on his own. I assume that He will be on his own again soon, and that will be when he makes the suit himself as a round two type of thing. He also very clearly wants to make that suit in the show but isn't able to. He keeps doodling it and bringing it up in episodes. Another example of this not being related to character growth (though I hate the show) is the 2017 Spider man show. He has a really bad homemade suit, but when he makes the upgraded suit it is just because he has the resources now. As far as MCU Spiderman, it makes it a really cool climax to see that suit for the first time on the big screen. We know what Spiderman looks like, so we don't need to always see him like that. Seeing the journey he takes keeps the character fresh in some ways. At the end of the day though, you are entitled to your opinion. I hope this doesn't sound offensive, as that is not at all my intent. Like you, I am just passionate about the character.

Honestly, when I saw the suit from YFNSM, it kind of looked something Peter would cobble together with the limited budget he would have or just using whatever he had on hand which is probably what they were going for. I honestly found it kind of strange for Raimi's Spider-Man to have a suit I could see Peter would make to a very professional looking suit at some point (not to dog on the suit itself because I do like it). So I'm kind of fine with Peter getting a suit a bit later. Though… (spoilers for the new three episodes YFNSM) - - - - - - Kind of funny how they went through three different suits that was shown when this show was revealed to us before landing on the white and black one. But I do like how the show itself called the suit a bit sterile. So I could see them making a suit a bit later. And given that this shows kind of subverting expectations, it could be a bit earlier so… who really know at this point?

I wouldn’t say the “suit making him spider-man” is what’s being portrayed in most modern spider-man media, or even implied, as said at around 3:43 . This was made clear to me with practically every major reinterpretation of a “proto-suit” besides the raimi & ASM ones, being used for amateur vigilantism from the moment we see peter wear em’. I.E Peter got bit, realized his responsibility, and then got to work living up to them in the way he saw most fitting. And then, even in the raimi films, the wrestling suit was meant to represent something specific; his lack of personal responsibility-and a bit of pettiness. Even when showing the audience something negative about the character, the simple home-made costume still represented something important. And it was made quite clear in that film that Peter’s own personal growth is what inspired him to do more with his powers, and develop the raimi classic suit. Not the other way around. Hell, in homecoming, the entire point of the finale act is that peter never needed any of stark’s tech to be truly spider-man. The suit quite literally didn’t make the man. He beat the main villain of that film in his original home-made costume. And in Your friendly neighborhood spider-man, he’s already begun doing some real good in NYC with a pretty simple spider-suit setup. And I imagine the 1st seasons finale arc will conclude with Peter learning a similar lesson to that of homecoming. tl;dr i find most of the video’s grievances reasonable, though I wanted to point out my disagreement with this minor point. :D great vid tho :)

I’m tired of the over done costume designs too the classic suit always looks good there’s no need to change a suit each single time especially in the movies or overused of tech what made Spiderman cool is that he was already strong enough on his own that he doesn’t need tech but it’s way cooler that he’s just a regular guy with his power goin against super powered villains with tech or not.The P5 Spiderman suit it’s alright but still they could’ve kept the classic suit gives it more of a Spiderman feel

Hey! That sounds like a great idea. My advice would be to study the way other people's videos are so that you can come to a decision on what you want YOUR style to be like. Obviously I'm not saying to copy people, I'm saying to inspire yourself! Not sure if you plan to script your videos but if you do that's always helpful. And lastly, good titles and thumbnails are EVERYTHING. The best titles are ones that ask a question or present a matter in an urgent way, almost as if to say "If you aren't watching this you're missing out". For instance, instead of "Why Batman And Robin Are A Team" it could be "Why Batman NEEDS Robin" That's just my advice tho, it could really be whatever works for you! Good luck!!

Can I just say TASM 1's Vigilante Suit isn't even that bad? Like isn't the point of Peter's arc in that movie is that he has to learn to have take his responsibility as using his powers to be a selfless hero, not a vigilante motivated by vengeance? Like he's meant to be a teenager who's a misunderstood but arrogant outsider who had to learn responsibility, and focused on being a vigilante to be a dick around criminals not a friendly neighborhood superhero who wants to help the average citizen. That was the point of the Vigilante design, it's meant to just be a vengeance driven vigilante just wearing a red mask or anything "recognizable", not a friendly neighborhood hero helping out people

It still really annoyed me when you said that the amazing Spider-Man movie popularized the “homemade suit” because it’s been a staple of the of Spider-Man’s origin like have you not read the most beloved Spider-Man book (ultimate Spider-Man). @TRZ-Official I would disagree, especially for someone "street level" like peter. It makes logical sense for him to improve his suits, the more experience he gets, and the more threats he faces. It's a great visual sign of growth. Would you rather peters suit never changes? Never improves? I wasn't aware peter using a new suit to battle ock in ps4 bad writing, apparently. (Also, the 1940s bit is a joke and most early comics. Nobody changed their outfits they just showed up with them and never changed or evolved stagnant just like their costumes.)

It's one of Adobe Illustrator's calligraphy brushes, I don't think it has a name tho. You could achieve the same thing with almost any calligraphy brush really.

I never said I wanted the suit to be exactly the same as it was in the 60's, I love when the suit is modernized. Do I think it NEEDS it? @@TRZ-Official Sure sure. It's more like look at someone like Cyclops from the X-men. Gets a new and fresh take on a suit each era without it just being used for a specific purpose. I like that and it adds a lair of uniqueness to that era of the comics. The superior Spider-man might suck a bit, however I like that he got a more unique look. That's why I also like the far from home Spider suit. Although I must contradict myself by saying that it IS hard to beat the OG. It's straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥

You can change outfits but they don't have to suck. I personally prefer the insomniac suit I like how athletic the shoes look compared to the bulky boots he usually wears and the white spider pops so much more than the black one. The 2nd game outfit sucks tho the big ass head just makes him look fat They don't have to make him wear some shitty T-shirt the entire time
