Note: This is the "other" legendary Byrd. Not the Troop A Trooper Jacob Byrd. Trooper's Report: On July 6, 2024, I, Trooper Garrett Byrd, was informed that Hughes Police Department was in a vehicle pursuit with an orange Dodge Charger at speeds over 100 miles per hour, northbound on Highway 79 towards Highway 70 and Interstate 40. As I traveled towards the pursuit, I was informed that the pursuit entered Interstate 40 eastbound, west of my location, so I traveled to the 273-mile marker and prepared to deploy a tire deflation device. As the pursuit came by at 12:45 AM, I deployed the device, and the right-side tires of the suspect vehicle struck the device. I removed the device from the roadway, got back in my vehicle, and began to catch up to the pursuit to assist with taking the suspect/s into custody, but the Charger did not stop and continued eastbound. The pursuing officer advised that the suspect vehicle lost a tire, as I got closer to the pursuit around the 278-mile marker, I observed that the West Memphis Police Department and Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office had also become involved. I became directly involved in the pursuit at the 280-mile marker and observed the suspect vehicle lose part of a tire as it entered heavier traffic at speeds around 70 miles per hour. I took the primary in the pursuit and performed a tactical vehicle intervention at the 281-mile marker at 12:50 AM. The Charger spun and became perpendicular to the front of my car, creating an officer safety concern. I maneuvered the Charger towards the outside wall, and the Charger struck the wall and became removed from the front of my car. It then becomes parallel with the right side of my car. As I drove to a safer location the right side of my car and the right side of the suspect vehicle made contact. West Memphis Police Department took a front-seat, female, passenger into custody and informed that the driver fled on foot. They advised that the driver was a black male wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. During a search of the vehicle, West Memphis Officers located a Ziploc bag and two smaller baggies containing marijuana, in the center console and inside the glove box. I also located a burnt marijuana cigarette and rolling papers in the center console area. A black bag was in the rear floorboard behind the driver seat which contained two key fobs and two electronic devices, which are items that could assist with vehicle theft. Despite the efforts of officers and K9s, the driver was never located. The vehicle was towed by Heck’s Wrecker Service. The female refused to identify herself on scene. I transported her to the Crittenden County Jail where she finally identified herself as Tyshaunda Tye of Little Rock, AR. Tye was booked into jail for Obstructing Governmental Operations, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of an Instrument of Crime. The marijuana had a combined weight of approximately 82 grams. As a result of the TVI and the actions of the driver of V-1, The ASP marked patrol car, FLEET # 301015, was damaged. The patrol car received damage to the front TVI bumper, front right fender, and front right passenger door.
