Spinning hook is moreso a tool to aim for the neck/head and then to use in combination with a instep turning kick, as the main attack, to the face breaking the nose. Spinning back kick is just devastating and has no chill and requires less finesse

I think an important distinction that needs to be made is that for most people it is harder to get a spinning back kick up to the head whereas a spinning hook kick you can go anywhere from head all the way down to the knee if you need to. And if you say a spin hook kick to the body doesn't hurt as much you've never been hit by a proper spinning hook kick to the body that sh*t will adjust your aura and realign your chakras

My instructor of ten years hit me with with both of these kicks many times. His back kick was very powerful, and he preferred that kick. But getting hit in the side of the head with a heel just simply hurt me much more. I was far more afraid of the heel... And I always preferred spinning hook.

I'm 60 and quite slow, spinning hook kick when I do light sparring in the gym I usually can reach other guys head with my right leg, I know jump spinning back kick could be more powerful and effective but I find it more difficult to manage, you need to have remarkable explosiveness in order to do it well, whereas standard spinning back kick is simpler. Congratulations for your work, you're an excellent athlete and your videos are really well made, full of good advices for young people and often funny too 🙂

I either use one of them for a counter attack, but I prefer the spinning hook kick. Because in taekwondo the point system is different, when hitting the head has more points than body. Like for example, spinning hook kick is about 3 - 4 points while kicking a roundhouse to the body is only 2.

This one is really hard as they are both some of my favorite kicks. If I could only use/do 1 for the rest of my life it would be the spinning back kick much quicker in and out, easier to set up, can be used to create distance with the push or make them respect the distance, or even stop the fight if it hurt them enough. But if I could only use one in a fight then the spinning hook kick, I like the momentum mixed with the power from the hooking motion.
