Great episode as always Joe, waking up to new episodes to watch on a Sunday morning in southern Europe is always a treat. By the way, you can zoom in the action in Demon’s Tilt, but it’s behind the pause menu under “Standard zoom” and “Multiball zoom”. Slide it to tighter and it really makes the difference. I’m playing on PC. It was thanks to you that I found Devil’s Crush and loved it, and the reason that I bought Demon’s Tilt. ☺️
@btr3k Жыл бұрын
Wanted to mention this too - there are so many options, but they're not in the main options menu. In the in-game pause menu, you can also turn on ball trails which helps keep track of ball location, and enable randomized music which reveals a number of different tunes that can play during the game. You'd think all this would be enabled by default but... it's the joy of discovery I guess?
@aquietmonk Жыл бұрын
Assigning a monetary value to words is pretty straightforward. I use this simple formula: Number of syllables + the number of times you've heard people you ACTUALLY know use the word commonly +2 or -2 for correct/incorrect contextual usage = value in local currency. The exchange rate is calculated by how many expletives/colourful metaphors you can use INSTEAD of the word in question, whilst still making sense to the people you are talking to. Bonus value is added if you can use a non-expletive instead and still make it sound like an expletive - I use nadgers instead of balls (not going to put the actual expletive here), for example. Finally an additional bonus is available if you can use a non-contextual, totally surreal alternative and still be understood - for example "I went to the bar last night, had a few too many drinks and was totally kettled!" I had to learn this as I have the world's worst thesaurus - it's appalling and also it's appalling.

The funny thing, the "ninja" outfit has nothing to do with martial arts. It's the uniform of a stagehand in Japanese theater. Real ninjas often dressed as commoners to blend in, so they'd look like normal people.
@thedeadpoolwhochuckles.6852 Жыл бұрын
A stagehand can be a commoner.
@Amiculi Жыл бұрын
@@thedeadpoolwhochuckles.6852 The point was that the stage hands were wearing black outfits in low light and dark backgrounds expressly so you didn't see them. The costume came about in kabuki performances where a stagehand, dressed in the 'ninja outfit' would suddenly murder someone and reveal themselves to NOT be a stage hand, quite literal third wall breaking. Normally you would fully ignore the stage hands to suspend disbelief as they were used to do things like change scenes, animate background set pieces and animals and otherwise just do non-acting related things.

The Seasons Pass term comes out of sports, where you would buy a seasons pass to get access to the entire season's games. I think EA started the term with their sports games and it just spread to everything else eventually, where the seasons pass is buying access to all the DLC for that game. Unfortunately, some companies are taking that very literally now and often they only give you that year's DLC and you see additional seasons passes afterwards, so I guess that does confuse it, but GENRALLY before the later parts of lastgen, it just means all the major DLC or ALL of the DLC in general, which I guess confuses it more as they often leave cosmetics out and... I miss when a game came out complete and if they added more you'd just get a sequel or a single major expansion pack...

And by that I mean games that aren't necessarily bad, but the controls are too complicated for their own good. One that comes immediately to my mind is the first Darksiders game, where it used Every. Single. Button. On. The. Controller. INCLUDING L3 and R3 (!!!) for an action game (!!!)!! Of course, that would mostly be a more modern oriented video, but still.... I feel that that's a plague for modern gaming 😢

Games have "Season Passes" for online multiplayer. They are expansion packs with patches, but for online multiplayer to work, everyone playing needs to be running the same version of the game with all the same content. So you're basically paying to play online with people this "season" until new content drops. Then you need to pay for an upgrade in order to keep playing online.

I'd guess that Demon's Tilt was designed around the idea of playing it on a vertical screen, even if most people would end up playing it on a horizontal screen. That would explain why it has no horizontal "action" and only uses the center third of a horizontal screen, which in turn helps explain why everything is so small.
