I find it very interesting what you said about people stealing other people's dieties. Reflecting on this as an Indian Hindu I think a lot of our practices and Gods/Godesses are open for anyone-as long as they do it in a committed and respectful way and with the guidance of someone who knows what theyre doing- but there may be some more local practices and dieties that are kept only for people who have family connection to that area/tradition. For example, there is no problem with anyone practicing yoga, praying to majour Hindu dieties/gods or participating in most festivals but the remote village area that my family hails from we have local practices pertaining ancestral worship and designated family dieties which can only be participated by locals or their relatives. I used to think that it was okay for anyone to do any practice they please but growing up and learning more about my heritage makes me realize that connection to the land is very important and a new practice should only be learned from ta learned person if its an open practice!

I think that Catholic/Christianity plays a huge role into why so many people think that they can just join any type of religion or spiritually. God/Jesus wants as many people to join, follow and worship him. Spread his word far and wide. So someone who is leaving the church or trying to grow their spiritually, often believe that any deities would love to be worship and for us to call their name. People are not doing the proper research or we're not given the proper knowledge. Also Catholic/Christian has demonized and destroyed so many traditions and informations of celtic, paganism other ancient European religion and spiritually.
