Spirituality 3.0 (The Path of Choice) -Teal Swan-

The process of spiritual awakening happens in three steps, I have named these steps spirituality 101, spirituality 2.0 and spirituality 3.0. Indeed, in the future there may be many more steps. But like the holy trinity, let’s explore these three principal steps that add up to awakening. First, comes spirituality 101. In spirituality 101, you see the possibility that you may be free. You are confronted with the idea that you just might create your reality. So you start to create! You go in direction of what makes you feel joy. You become less powerless. For once, you do not resist your own happiness. You go in the direction of your positive emotions. You prioritize how you feel above all else; in fact your life is dedicated to feeling better. You finally let yourself have what you want. But still, you want those things because of aversions to other things. You are still running from feeling crappy. You begin to feel deep down that this is an endless cycle of aversion and craving, unwanted and wanted. No matter what you get, you want more. This is no longer as satisfying as it once was. So, it is time for the second step, Spirituality 2.0.
In spirituality 2.0, you realize that the answer is to turn around and walk towards your aversion instead. You learn the art of allowing (and thus non-resistance) relative to your negative emotion. You integrate and you start to become whole. The unconscious is becoming conscious. Craving is becoming pure desire. You are becoming whole as the shadow is no longer separated from the light of consciousness. Instead of feeling better, your aim is to get better at feeling. When you feel negative emotion, you do not immediately try to think or do something to feel better, you remain open to what that “negative” state has to teach you. You end up in the present moment. With no aversions and thus no craving the past ceases to motivate you towards the future and you are left squarely in the present moment. You catch a glimpse of peace for the very first time. And then you are ready for spirituality 3.0.
In spirituality 3.0 you can choose to create your reality through the use of deliberate focus but now your choices are no longer the byproduct of aversion and so there is no craving. Instead of craving, we recognize our infinite creator nature and CHOOSE. We choose to be wealthy or not. And we do not choose from a place of pain. In other words, I don’t want money because I’m poor; I want it because I am saying “yes” to that perspective in much the same way that I would say yes to strawberry ice cream. I don’t want strawberry ice cream because I so so so so don’t want chocolate ice cream. Inspiration is what causes our movement towards things that we choose. We are completely in the now. No past is projecting into our present or future. This state of spirituality 3.0 arises organically, as a result of shining the light in the shadow.

Teal is trying to guide us to "be with" our negative emotions vs repressing them. That is, instead of just living with/repeating positive affirmations as many suggest ("spirituality 101"), we move toward a state of allowing our negative emotions ("spirituality 2.0'). When we allow our negative emotions (vs repressing them), we are able to "work through," them. That results in peace, consciousness, & self actualization (3.0). I agree. I was having this conversation with my husband this morning. The way I see it is, while you can understand problems on an intellectual level, and understand why you don't want them and why it needs to change, nothing will actually change until you've gone through the process of sitting with the problem and really getting to know it. And eventually something clicks into place and it's not a problem anymore. And then you feel a lot better. I hope this makes sense. Another great video from Teal!

I like this post, but also wanna comment on the fact that I don't really think it's about "working through" the emotions, but more about "being with" the emotions, without needing them to get better in any way:) Alteration can come as a bi-product of being with emotions, but it doesn't have to, thats the point. Your emotions are okay, they don't HAVE to get better:)

a summary of 1.0 and 2.0: 1.0: do what makes you feel good. if that thing feels good, go do that thing. if it doesn't make you feel good, don't do it. rinse and repeat, and eventually you'll feel really good. 2.0: allow yourself to feel the pain. be present with your pain. tell your pain, 'I am hear with you now'. really feel your pain. not feeling any better? it's because you're resisting the pain. you're telling yourself it's not ok to feel pain. feel the pain. sink into the pain like your getting into a dirty bath. cry if you have to.

I love how she says that enlightenment is a byproduct of becoming conscious. It's the journey that's important, not the destination or any end result. It is moment to moment that's important. And I really like how Teal makes the distinction between DESIRE and THIRST, that thirst is the shadow side of desire. Thirst leads to clinging and addiction. There's this feeling of lack or desperate wanting that operates inside of us as if it has a life of its own.

My spirituality 101 lasted for 2 years and it was very painful, the more positive I was trying to become the more pain I was in. Now I've been in spirituality 2.0 for few months and it is really hard to feel all this emotional pain I've been carrying for years. My mind is coming up with all these tricks to take me out of the present moment. I can feel that my ego is terrified of feeling all this pain. I know I cant rush the process but it gets frustrating at times.

Feel what you are feeling does not mean to indulge in the pain, causing more suffering. To me it means to deliberatetly observe it just as it is, and not how you were taught to think about it, which usually is judgmental and suffering... who said pain has to be suffering? who said this is good, this is bad? it is what it is - that.s it ;-)

Hm I resonate with what you write! I have had it all pretty much in the middle of my twenties BUT I still felt deep inner pain from way back times. So that was the start for 2.0 and I am still there and fighting pain. The minute, no the second I let it all go and surrender to the moment of whatever I feel the pain is gone and it all feels easy. So freaking simple but still I cant stop fighting pain. And 1.0 in parts of my life I am still not allowing to get into. 101 lasted for me for 5 years. nothing worked even though i tried so much. i even hated myself so much for being lazy, unmotivated and having no self-control. bc i was, my mind and body just wouldn't accept everything i tried. thing is, all of those were attempts to change and fix myself. came year 2017 and 2018, probably the worst years of my hellish life, and i was forced to look at my emotions. i mean yeah, if you don't know how to apply it, spirituality is another hell to get into.

Teal this video IS a complete epiphany for me. Thank you for sharing!!!!!!! Now I see that all my avoidance and resistance have been screaming to be my teachers, but I wasn't yet ready to graduate from Sprituality 1.1. Always been in the loop of chasing my desires/pleasures/happiness in order to avoid/resist/run away from the experiences of pain/negative emotions or situations materializing before me. I get why we all want to avoid: it's not fun or warm and fuzzy. Now by letting all types experiences enter freely I can begin to grow and grow. So, it doesn't go 1.0 -> 2.0 -> 3.0 its kind of a combination of all three whenever you need them. That's what I got. I'm guessing when someone undergoes the awakening in this age, and when all the feelings are brought up to you (from past lives and childhood most likely) it is a push to 2.0 .

No, not at all. She circled the peripheral ideas, but landed on none. *All* Masters speak about leaving the idea person/ ego behind and becoming the desireless existence behind it. The ego cannot comprehend what is true desirelessness. She talked about creating internal peace so that people can seek their internal desires without conflict. The nature of a human being is pure consciousness... It is not the union of two, but the realization that the idea of "person" doesn't exist and there only ever was one. Actually, to say there is one indicates there must be another, which there is not. So to be accurate, there only is. Check out Mooji. He is an enlightened being, and his teachini are easy to understand/ follow. He has 100's of videos here on youtube. 4 mos of hardcore "being" and "effortless effort" has helped cracked the idea of egoic person "I" held, and allowed pure consciousness to be experienced. Teal, I think you are an incarnation of the goddess Hecate. she is a goddess of both light and shadow. When Persephone was forced to go into the underworld to live with Hades, it was Hecate who comforted her and gave her the tools to make the best of, and even come to enjoy her yearly underworld journeys. Our desires draw us, or pains guide us . Most of us are guided in painful circles. Some how i found all that i need in this world.We'll all find everything we need forever in forever. What we may have that is less than what we need , but all that we have in this world isn't an anchor and a shackle stopping our lives from going forward when we see there's always more and more time. I returned to my mother with being in 2.0 for some time, i felt the light of 3.0, no more rushing only now is definitely how u get out of it, and it is a joyful state, but i saw felt her pain so deeply, i believe i brought light to the house, once she hugged me and cried her ass off, i felt me so low, so low, fell sooooo low.. I just realized that i wanted to help them badly, but am still not capable.. Once i felt her deeply ingraved pain, trying to crowl back up desperately, i now understand i cant help them, not capable yet, i thought my light was strong enough, but not as strong as her determination i assume... Yes. I'm finding that we weave in and out of 101 and 2.0 for a bit. I have looped back around to deeper shadow work and completion processing. At first I was mad, but I was able to release that resistance.

Nice. It is somewhat similar to the three (turnings of the wheel) understandings layed out in vajrayana buddhism. One is the hinanyana, where you try to avoid all that creates attachment, it is socalled renunciation. Two is mahayana where darkness is confronted and not avoided, but is tranformed into compassion, life becomes engagement. Three is Vajrayana tantra where all becomes spirit or nondual, where polarity ceases and abidance in that becomes the central realization.
