If you can go back quite a ways in years regarding a Lego Parts with studs opposite each other depending on which way you look at the park might be considered top and bottom is there is not very many but there were a few even back in the day I remember the old wind-up motor story about this at the end to. The winding Keys did have four studs on top and bottom of the key for wanting the motor. The other one that Springs to mind the original light grey / old Gray some people refer to them as piston Ron ends not sure exactly what how to describe this had studs opposite which is also how the original Pistons were attached back in the day I use both of these to invert studs here and there and also there was not very many options for studs not on top building but there were a few back in the day and of course you did have the Technic bricks to do this as well but in the opposite direction but I got creative back in the day of course and yes of course people line up using so-called illegal building techniques all the time yeah sure if you lost something together long-term might do damage but still is being creative nonetheless. Also someone did a test with the fights shoved between studs and left it there long enough to see if damaged was done permanently and yes there was the Peace one-upping warped permanently so that does kind of put this to bed as to why it's an illegal building technique but then again they did shove plates in there between every single study that was feasible to do so but it was a good test to see what would happen sorry don't know name of the channel and or the video perhaps if somebody Vines this or is aware of it my 10-foot this hearing comments for others link to video that is it would actually really show what is the issue and might help with some of the age-old questions and so-called illegal techniques and why it can really happen and yes totally agree on clips and plates and other techniques like this clips and tiles I broke a party are they doing this and these were new ones not somebody that been in my collection for years have not sworn off doing this yet but would avoid it and also some parts with the eclipse the older ones were a bit worse for taking apart and reassembling over and over for example those flying pieces some of those tend to get damaged easily so this on one of the other channels for Lego and what they had done is typically would leave them on a bar piece as a flag and just leave them assembled to avoid breaking them if you've got enough it'd be worth doing I'm considering doing this myself. Since plenty of the parts available my collection so far. When going through something or winding up getting pressed together or otherwise but by accident in the process and didn't realize that so many things are compatible with Technic gears such as 111 round plate stacked make a gear rack and the ones with the center hole opens up possibilities for mechanisms that would probably not be possible otherwise and and ways that would work much better than others and more compact as well. And also using an axle and a worm gear not as a rotary element but as a linear element as well. Hand idea to do this for a semaphore for Lego trains! Could we use either one of those techniques pretentiously even as well. Regarding the LEGO whynot motor spoke about earlier with the whining key portion of things. I remember as a kid I first saw this I think it was Ben KB Toys back in the day potentially but I do remember this was Oxmoor Mall in Lewisville I had literally just bought it opened up box stuck the wheels on grab that winding key I was sitting on the bench at Oxmoor Mall and send it down the floor from that bench. Place looks quite different now and ironically there's now a Lego retail store there was my first time going last Christmas. Been there twice now. Also ditto with Bricks & minifigures in the vicinity. That was my Christmas for last year $100 plus budget for anything Lego awesome. Yeah in my forties so it's still in the hobby have been what seems like from day one! Also at the same mall I do remember there being when those Lego displays they had for example The Monuments in and More in Washington d.c. much much more. Right down to the Liberty Bell. I remember there was a competition to guess how many parts was in hey structure which was in front of the same toy store which I referred to earlier. One of the things that was awesome to behold was the one by one windows the old-school ones that were included in sets like the yellow Castle. Probably sometime back in the 80s or thereabouts not sure what the year was exactly one of the things is that how Lego designers were not allowed to cut or modify brakes or anyting however lighting was being done that was not Lego which holes were drilled and much more so yeah broke the rules there so if they can do things like this so can we

3:38 This technique is not only "illegal", in that it stresses the technic brick, but it also will not work in most cases as shown. The height of the technic hole is actually slightly lower that a SNOT stud height, meaning that the piece will not line up properly with the surrounding build. instead, just use the antistud on the back of another headlight brick. This also allows you to chain multiples of this technique together
@alpha00z26

@@alpha00z26 there are 2 potentially illegal building techniques here. The first is that forcing a studded surface into technic holes causes stress on the pieces. My biggest complaint about a lot of these techniques is that, yes, they are pretty cool, and yes they get studs on opposite sides of each other, but that's all they do for the most part. I've used a couple of these when actually building or designing, but the rest are like thought experiments. Not really practical outside of the initial concept.

1:35 that one is actually illegal. It stresses the technic connector slightly by jamming a closed stud into it. If you use a technic brick however, one that has a hollow stud stop, this becomes legal since the hollow stud allows the technic connector to have its relief. Refer to Tiago Catarino's video for that one.

Video suggestion: So I just finished building the newest Ecto-1 and while building I noticed something in the instructions that I don't think I have ever seen before. Earlier in the build it has you put two 2x2 yellow round bricks underneath the front fender but later the instructions have you remove those two pieces to use for part of the roof decoration. I don't think I've ever seen instructions have you remove pieces before, could you do a video on what sets (if any others exist) have had you remove pieces from a build as part of the instructions?

I don't understand how can this holds.. Oh.. f... ok.. still continue writing for others who would understand: the green parts on top aren't attach but their will hold just the down part and cannot get out because of the others. The bottom one holds the top which blocks the top one.. that holds the bottom, both holds opposite by exterior so are fixed together, ok.. why not, but seems a bit fragile, a bit weak holding, but original !

I used that technique for building the ball, with the inverted cirular tiles, flower pieces and 1x1 brick with five studs. I left one side off, though, so that I could attach them as spherical fuel tanks on a model of NASA's InSight lander. One thing, though, the version you showed doesn't hold together very well.
