3:46 why is this considered illegal? the technic pins and holes were clearly designed to the same size and spacing as the bricks' studs, seemingly for this exact building technique. There is no strain on the parts or bending when connecting in this manner.

you can attach a plate to the technic hole bricks using studs, but not directly for some reason
@captainshays6191
@captainshays6191 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vexnatos I literally built something in LDD using that technique yesterday. EDIT: LDD only sometimes recognizes the technique. It works with single-stud plates like 1x1s and jumpers, but doesn’t seem to work with standard plates 1x2 and bigger. The exact assembly shown in the video is not possible in LDD.
@karlhendrikse

I assume it's illegal because it results in an offset of half a stud: a bad situation to be in.
@vvojciech1038
@vvojciech1038 2 жыл бұрын
Apparently a pin hole is placed on brick just slightly higher than a side studs on bricks. That is why it's not illegal to connect plates to bricks with pin holes but placing anything that connects with a brick but goes on top of a plate will shlightly stress it

@noob-killer
@noob-killer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Since the holes are designed for technic pins they are slightly off-center. Thus using any kind of plate that isn't 1x1 is illegal cause it causes stress and eventually damage to the bricks/plates. And if there is a block hanging above then even the 1x1 is illegal cause the brick above pushes the plate down, damaging it since the hole isn't perfectly centered

4:15 Why do these pieces break so easily? I keep all of my spare pieces in a bin with divided sections. I sort the pieces by function, and one section is for all of the pieces that are broken. The pile is mostly comprised of cracked torsos, battle droid arms, those horrible reddish brown pieces that snap apart like dry twigs, but more than any other are the hinge pieces shown above.

I could swear older building kits utilized the Technic bricks with 1xX flat plates stapled to them, I know they still use that method using the transparent 1x circles for lights.
@YCCCm7
@YCCCm7 2 жыл бұрын
1x1 is okay. But on longer plates the studs aren't repeated at the same rate as the holes in the technic brick, meaning there's a slight desync that can strain the parts. That being said, Lego has 100% used techniques in their builds that later research reveals were actually damaging the parts long term. They then categorized them as illegal after finding out about this problem. Sometimes they've even modified select pieces (1x1 plates with clips are an example) to be able to meet desired functionality safely.

@gruntopolouski5919
@gruntopolouski5919 2 жыл бұрын
I’m wondering what is illegal about some of these methods… I was under the impression that “illegal” = putting pressure on a brick, like connecting 2 bricks (1x4 plates) using the center studs and forming a “scissor” shape. A good number of the confabulations in this video seem to be odd, fer shur, but not stressing a single brick. Does anyone know where there is an official list from LEGO which defines exactly what makes a join “illegal?
