the shims for the control arms are there for alignment. don't lose count of how many were on each control arm or you'll be out of alignment. the diffs are weak on these cars if there's lots of backlash you have to reshim the sun gears with copper sheet and form them in a conical shape. easy to do, but if you're gonna race it you have to do it. here's a few tips on the cross shaft and and pin that are also weak on later spits like yours. with racing you may as well cryo the ring and pinion as well. traction concepts has a clutch type LSD that is fairly inexpensive. blackline has a proper LSD unit that replaces the entire insides of the differential that has held up well to racing rigiors. depends on how much you want to spend. there's race cages on the market for spitfires for around $500. cheers.

@nickyalousakis3851 yes sir! That's a heck of a lot of knowledge and certainly beyond budget. This is a "see how long it lasts" build before I find a donor miata and start swapping the rear subframe.
