This game has the most interesting mechanics of any colony builder ive seen so far. The Family and Lord system is actually brilliant. Gives the npc's more of an alive feel. All it really needs now is a social and recreation system intergrated with the family system, so they can interact and create good or possible bad relations with each other. which could maybe lead to feud's, assasinations, sabotage, or simple pranks or rivalry. And then maybe being able to have a tavern with visitors, that the Ai can create quests or jobs. I think games need to work more on AI. I think people underestimate how interesting it is to watch AI try and do stuff on their own. With your guidance of course. :P

Fun fact: A villein was a serf who worked for his lord's villa. They were basically free ranged slaves, responsible for feeding themselves and keeping their own homes, but owned nothing, not even their own lives. It's also the origin of the word villain. Because the rich and powerful loved to think that their serfs were bad dirty people of ill repute.

What a cool and educational idea for the game, will be getting this for sure :) But it's weird to see that given what the games tries to accomplish you still have to micromanage the families' living areas and place the beds, tables, etc. yourself. I think the families should strive to build whatever they need the most at any given time, and maybe based on their personality types if something like that's implemented.
@jled7873 жыл бұрын
Yeah, IMO they can assign areas to families but buildings are standardized (fixed buildings and fully furnished). If the family grows to a number that the assigned propert is not enough, they can purchase more land from the Lord.

Remember, kids! The word "villain" derives from the archaic term "villein" which was basically synonymous with "villager" until the French aristocracy used it to vilify (no pun intended) the poor, thus producing the familiar English word.

something i've learned from watching other people play this, is that every family does ***not*** need a well. you can make public ground and put a well on that, that everyone can draw from. i'm actually pretty stoked on this game, the mechanics are so unique, though i feel like the algorithm for getting new families could be weighted better for early gathering families, so you're less likely to get a string of late game production, without the requisite gatherers.

@JWar-3 жыл бұрын
@@CanadianWolverine Most people use the term monopoly colloquially when its actually a technical term in economics. A lot of people would say a company with 90% market share is a monopoly. In economics it means an impenetrable barrier to entry into a market as a seller. NFL has 100% of the market in the United States for professional football, but they aren't a monopoly. Even the possibility of competition stops them from charging a monopoly price. An example of a monopoly would be power companies, since it's against the law for private investors to start their own grid. All monopolies can be traced back to a government law or regulation giving preferential treatment to one business over another.

I am fine with designing the exterior of a house as coding a smart AI to make houses would be extremely difficult. The only way I can possible think is either A.) Give the AI as many designed houses as possible and you can even include some code to mix and match parts of building to make semi procedurally generated homes and then the AI picks the best match for the plot granted to them. You can then allow buildings to be "upgraded" so it starts out as a small hovel (even if you give them a massive plot) but as the family grows and as they get wealthier they build the house bigger and with better materials. This is possibly the best option but would require man hours to make the predesigned houses and even then if you end up with too big a family you could result in a family making too small a home. B.) include some kind of machine learning and feed it as many homes as possible (can be made by the devs or by players) and then allow the AI to build a house based on the plot given, the families occupation, wealth, # of family members. This though would still be difficult and the result may not be perfect and you may end up with weird houses. Still though the interior of the house should be designed by the families. Still definitely difficult to get right, but would be far easier to code an AI to do so. It would first subdivide the given house into "rooms". It would do so based on the size of the family, wealth, and the size of the house. So a large house for a wealthy family would have bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, etc while a poor family in a small home would have a bedroom and then the kitchen, dining room, and living room are all combined into a single home. This would then allow for some micro-manage if the player wishes as you can designated areas of a house as certain rooms.

question about the game: do they actually compete with pricing? on 23:50 you claimed having another forester family would cause competition, but doesn't competition mean lower prices? like if you have two shops selling bread. if one sells a loaf for $2 while the other $3. then everyone would buy from store 1, thus forcing store 2 to lower their loaf to $2 as well. making it cheaper for all villagers. if there was only 1 bread store, they could sell a loaf for $5. customers would be forced to pay or starve
