closest thing to freelancer is darkstar one and galaxy on fire 2. For mp, there are ton of freelancer mods, crossfire mod is crazy then you got the x series. The starpoint gemini games are good too but play the last game if you want a small ship. Elite dangerous is great too.

@jeffjensen83 жыл бұрын
@@EvaShogouki01 I've enjoyed X4 since launch and it has improved quite a bit since then. It's gone from a C- to a B+, I'd say. It's not and never will be perfect, but it's a lot of fun, and it now has a lot more 'story' content that give you some drive / goals beyond what you make for yourself. My biggest complaints are that it needs improved in-sector AI (IE: if you stand on deck of an AI-piloted miner and watch them mine, they will do so very inefficiently. If you fly away / teleport to another sector they will start filling their cargo bay with minerals while you're OoS (out of sector)). I'd also like to see ship / component rebalancing (IE: Why use a Falx over a Katana?) EgoSoft also just released a free DLC / expansion for X3 last week that's going to have me going back to check out X3 again

The first Rebel Galaxy gets maybe 50-75% of Freelancer - you can mine, trade, do missions for money, etc, but it falls short (2D space - lacks depth in quite a few areas, etc.) Worth a look if you've never tried it. It was a budget game, so it's hard to expect a lot from it. I enjoyed the story of it, I think it has a wonderful aesthetic, and the soundtrack is awesome. Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw was really shallow compared to the original game. There only a handful of ships to fly, and you could only pilot fighters when we had been used to piloting capital ships. I had fun with it (for the ~10 hours of gameplay) but was also really disappointed (how short it was, the story, not many ships, etc.). Starpoint Gemini I think attempts to be its own thing - a capital spaceship / RPG. It has a lot in common with Freelancer, but also feels like it strays away quite a bit too. You can land on planets, trade, run missions for factions, etc. But it's also clunky and most things are not easy to grasp. The stories (in the ones I've played) are also very threadbare and just generic attempts to get you to do things. Keep in mind I love all of these games (with the exception of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw). Nothing really comes close to having the elegance and apparent simplicity of Freelancer (the game is by no means "simple" - I mean that most things are intuitive and easy to grasp). I'll keep hoping, but the way I see it, the only way you'll really scratch your Freelance itch is... by re-installing Freelancer. Which I'm doing right now.

I wish there was more (or at least more obvious) effects to indicate the speed of the ship. Like light trails, some particle effects, or a long "flame" from the engine. Having the ship turn transparent when mousing over it would help a lot with both flight and combat too. It felt like 50% of the ship combat was Splat trying to see around his own ship.
@datonkallandor86873 жыл бұрын
For some weird reason devs making capital ship games keep making the guns direct-player control. That's incredibly stupid. When you have tons of guns, a very slow ship, restrictive turret arcs and slow 6-axis maneuvering - guns need to be automated.

that mechanic with power distribution where you manage the power to shield, weapon, engine with the arrow key (or similar shortcuts) ? been there in pretty much most space sim that came out since the days of x wing all the way back in 1993 (so yeah, it's been around for a LONG time... elite dangerous is like late to the game) and all the other games in the series (Tie Fighter, X wing vs Tie Fighter, X wing alliance) used the same system... I mean it worked... and at one point back when space sim games were still common, most copied the system either in form, or wholesale.
