I like that the building cleared the grass from directly under it, and nowhere else. So many games either just leave the grass poking up through whatever you've built, or splash down a giant bare spot. I know it's just aesthetics, but it looks good.

Probably easier to program and generally devs think it looks nicer to do the clearing around the building in a circle, like they cleared it to put in the building

Well, Battletech has agrimechs and WH40K has Knights (smaller Titans) helping clean up the farmlands on periphery worlds (because there's no other heavy machinery). So it's kinda compatible with both settings!

@@TheLazyFinn personally I think they used knghts for homesteading in 40k is kinda like this game, an all around platform with a bunch of attachments to do essentially everything, moving stuff, farming and occasionally, defense.

Keith Laumer touched on this theme way back in the '70s. It was a Bolo story where an old Bolo (don't recall what model, but before the Mk25) was repurposed as farm machinery on a remote colony world. Of course, it's still a Bolo even if it has an agricultural mission profile. Then the aliens show up--as they do--and pests must be eliminated, no matter what they are or where they come from.

There was this gamebook (an ancient, lost concept) in the 90s, with this incredibly schlocky name: "Robot Commando." It was set on the planet where people use mechs to farm, and ranch dinosaurs. It was beyond cool and I have been missing something like that ever since.

Reminds me of Waarhammer 40k Knight worlds. They were essentially industrial mechs, used for settling new worlds. When things got bad, the converted them into war machines.

Battletech has an era known as the Republic Era, where after a massive war everyone decided that they were either too weak and exhausted from war that they decided they needed to economically redevelop and so a lot of Mechs were either scrapped or turned into farm, forestry, mining, or construction equipment until 50 years later chaos ensued when the HPG network went down. Also, in the Periphery Mechs are so expensive to maintain that you can't afford to just have them sit around waiting for someone to attack, so they are used for other civilian tasks when they aren't being repaired or fighting.

Just played through the whole demo!! Really fun game!! Super looking forward to the full thing. There's a couple of things I think they should really change, like the crafting/inventory interactions (ie have the storage be not so limited, and feed into the crafting). But overall, fun stuff!!

Yeah, I think an animation where you raise your arm and bring it back down, implying a rotary rack of tools on your back, would go a long way toward making it feel smoother. They could speed it up by pretending that they already spooled the one you wanted a second before you pressed the button, so as soon as the arm leaves the screen you just hear the clunk and whirr and then the arm drops back less than a second later.

In mw5, my hero Corsair has outlasted hundreds of millions of creds worth of other assault mechs. 3 ac5-bfs plus some extra drones, super useful in my lances, keep going back to it! The Corsair is like an industrial/agrimech modified by pirates for battle, asymmetric kitbashed kinda look

Looks very nice, one game to put on my watch list. The tools swap animations definitely will go on my nerves after a while and I don't think that it will take nearly as much as 10 hours to do so. I find devs often like the animations they come up with but don't really think about how quickly players will get bored or even sick of it. I still remember the long, unskippable animations when using cores to get Blades (doing this hundreds of times to get all the rare Blades) in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, where they only patched a skip function in later. Having to manually delete all the common Blades afterwards as you could only have a certain amount any give time, if I remember correctly, was also a pain. Btw, I hope the devs aren't "cleaning" off toxic waste by flushing it with water in RL. :P

I cannot acknowledge this game as being in the Battletech spirit until it introduces combined-arms farming. While it currently features mechs, merchant Dropships and a little bit of infantry, it lacks basics like wheeled combines and cropdusters. That bit of sarcasm aside, I'm also liking the look of this game. I suppose they could do a serious survival mode if they introduce hunger/thirst and equipment breakdowns, but there's also a place for something you can just slowly putter away at.

Mech history for the Battletech/MechWarrior is the reverse they had so little technology decades after the fall of the Star League that when the clans returned they weaponized civilian Mechs like construction and Agro mechs. This game does that in recerst

This game looks fantastic. Very unusual take on mechs. As for the rain not cleaning the goo when your water gun does? Well, if you've never used a pressure washer, lemme tell ya. Rain doesn't have a lot of oomph behind it, but a pressure-washer DOES. and it'll take the paint clean off furniture if you're not careful....

I always go straight to the graphics options in games and turn that crap off. It's extremely off putting and makes the game look worse. It also uses up computer resources best used on maxing out texture details.
