If you have the ability to mag-dump in a horror game, and it works... it's probably just a game with horror-themed visuals, not a horror game. Like, Doom for example. It has demons and zombies and such all over the place. It takes place during a literal invasion from hell. But I wouldn't describe it as horror. The latest iterations you counter-invade hell and find out that the demons have horror stories about you coming to hell to slaughter them. It's basically a reverse-horror if anything, where you are the monster.
@mr.q8240Ай бұрын
i mean your are not wrong but what are trying to tell us here
@sharkforce8147Ай бұрын
@@mr.q8240 Wanderbots mentioned that he preferred horror games where you can mag-dump whatever the enemies are. My point is that if you can do that, it's not particularly horror. It could be a game with horror-themed elements in it, just like if you had a game where all the people are at a ren fair and dressed in period costumes doesn't make that game historical fiction. That feeling of helplessness is a core part of the horror genre. Think of a horror movie, and imagine how different it would be if the protagonist was someone who can reliably defeat the monster. It may still be a good movie, but if you went because you wanted to see a great horror movie you could very easily come away disappointed, because it basically isn't a horror movie in any meaningful way.
@mr.q8240Ай бұрын
@@sharkforce8147 first of wanderbots is a huge hypocrite and say everything to get views it he wasn't like that in the beginng it is a shame.... second not true there are many many subgerne of horror...... psychology and body for example on is focused on the mind and the other on visuals and just because you are desensitized it is still horror.... so because an indian say's the food is mild dosn't mean that for most people in the western world it is very spicy... are you say because the indians declared the food as not spicy it still would tasted spicy for someone who isn't used to it....... iam not sying i dont get your felling i have same issue that why i like the lovecraft gerne but that dosn't mean because i dont find something horrific that it is automaticly not horror anymore... the funniest thing is that actually give the defintion of historical fiction in try to prove that is not the defintion .... what are you trying to say is "if you had a game where all the people are at a ren fair and dressed in period costumes doesn't make that" a historical acurate game... the word fiction means deviations from what is real and everything is possible
@sharkforce8147Ай бұрын
@@mr.q8240 Quick question: is English your first language? It feels like some idiomatic stuff might be getting past you. For example, historical fiction is a genre of stories where the setting starts from actual history (more or less) but then changes the events that happen. For example, if someone was to write a novel where Julius Caesar never showed up (or just never became a general, or something along those lines) and the rest of the story is basically what the world of that time would be like in that case, that would be an example of historical fiction. A group of people dressing up in costumes and pretending they are living in times hundreds of years ago is not part of that genre, because the setting isn't a time in history. It's in the present. Horror isn't just about having skulls or monsters or things that some people might find scary. Star Wars, for example, has plenty of aliens with futuristic technology in it, but is not horror. Predator, which also has an alien in it with futuristic technology, *is* horror. Even if someone out there finds Star Wars to be scary, it still isn't part of the horror genre. Even if someone watches predator and is not scared by it, it is still part of the horror genre. Scary things can happen in all kinds of movies (or stories, or video games). The presence or absence of something scary does not determine whether something is or is not horror.
@mr.q8240Ай бұрын
@@sharkforce8147 your right english is not my first language but that not the point iam also bad in writting in my first language thats maybe the reason you cant understand what iam saying or you just ignore it your qoute "The presence or absence of something scary does not determine whether something is or is not horror." then why your qoute again" If you have the ability to mag-dump in a horror game, and it works... it's probably just a game with horror-themed visuals, not a horror game." and " Think of a horror movie, and imagine how different it would be if the protagonist was someone who can reliably defeat the monster. It may still be a good movie, but if you went because you wanted to see a great horror movie " you are so focused on winning the argument that you didn't notice that you contradict yourself
