John, when that bucket is empty, please find another bucket of useful treasures. I am learning so much about smithing from these simple projects. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

I think one of the things I am starting to love about blacksmithing is that something can be very beautiful even when it's not "perfect" and has differences and "imperfections".

I've followed along with you hook demo's and they have been outstanding in delivery and content. You have inspired me to look more closely at the bucket of bits and pieces under the chop saw. Your channel and video's are much appreciated and i hope will continue for a very long time.

Hi Black bear smith. I also keep all my cuttings however a local resident made a complaint!. to the council and hence a visit from them eg the council. They wanted me to get rid of the scrap? And I said there is no scrap. Each piece of metal is a tool a hook or a metal band for wrapping gates etc. And also a Blacksmith has no scrap?. But I did do a tidy up to keep all concerned happy.. Right now I am making a set of Gate rising or lifting hinges for a customer. bye for now.

John. This would gave made a excellent item to demonstrate and explain the use of the tumbler you bought a long while ago, that seems to have vanished. Just sayin'. May I ask why???? And if not for hooks, what do you use it for??

The tumbler is not something I would use for hooks.

Hi John, just wanted to say the music really stuck with me on this one, its very nice! I believe you have used music in the past, but i wouldn't say very much. also, can't help but wonder if that's you on the banjo? thanks for the great video.

That was a fun one. I would really love to see that pair of tongs you were using up much closer. And the filing vice is also something I have never seen before. Are those avaliable anywhere you know of? As always, you are a great teacher and provide some great inspiration even though it is now over 100 here in north Texas, so my forging time is from sunrise to perhaps 9 if I'm lucky.

John, awesome series. I've loved every segment of the hook of the week. Question if you have time to answer. I notice the peen on your hammer is diagonal, instead of cross or straight. Can you explain, or do you have a video that explains, how that is helpful or what techniques that is useful for? I'm very new to blacksmithing, so always looking to learn something. Thanks.

not very often. I find propane to be cleaner, cheaper and way more efficient for the work I do. Coal still has its place for smaller welds, odd shaped work and wrought iron projects.
