From the LencoRacing Website:Shift Patterns: All levers in forward position result in the transmission being in first gear. The tallest to the right is used to shift the transmission from first to second gear. The second lever, and second tallest, is used for third gear. The next lever is used for fourth gear and final lever for fifth. Burnout's (on all LENCOS): When doing burnout's you need to roll up to the water box then shift all sections accept the front section. Then start the tires spinning, now shift the front section so that you are now in high gear. You always need to come out of the water box in high gear to prolong the life of the transmission.

So the taller gears must be close if its hard to tell the difference between second and 5th right? The only way youre really grenading it is if you slam all the levers forward and send it into first because second is so close to 5th that you can shift between them and the only way you can really tell which is faster is when youre counting the tenths and hundreths of the second. First gear all levers forward. Man i bet the inside of that trans is confusing as hell but i hope im wrong. They were starting in 1st and shifting into fith and ending in 2nd. Is that what im understanding? 5th and second are higher gear ratios or something so jts hard to tell the difference is what i think is happening. First gear probably sends the vehicle speed way up to the point 2nd is lime 6th in a normal car. Or like sportbike motorcycles where 1st gear goes to like 75mph or something crazy. At first i was skeched out because its weird to see a transmission that once out of first gear you can hardly tell the difference between 2nd and 5th. Motorcycles you dont get to choose you csmt just go from first to 5th you have to manually roll through every gear from 1st to 5th so its impossible to accidentally put it in the wrong gear without shifting down 4 seperate times and dumping the clutch if you were literally suicidal 😂
@floorpizza8074
@floorpizza8074 Жыл бұрын
@@TheAnnoyingBoss "They were starting in 1st and shifting into fith and ending in 2nd" Your confusion is understandable, as you're thinking about how "normal" transmissions work. But the Lenco isn't a "normal" transmission. Throw everything you know about transmissions out the window, and follow along.... Each lever adds another ratio on top of the previous ratio. By shifting it backwards, all you're doing is throwing in slightly taller ratios earlier than what you want, but the end result (all levers back) *always* results in all the ratios added in, giving you fifth gear. Once you grock that, think about it this way: the only real "gears" you have in a traditional sense are first and fifth. Everything else is just first gear plus a ratio after the first throw, then first gear plus two ratios after throwing two levers, then first gear plus three ratios after pulling the third, etc. So the difference is how much each lever adds to the current ratio. You could even start by all levers forward, then throw the far left one, then throw the far right one, the the second from the left, then the second from the right and finally the last lever and still end up in fifth. Now here's the thing.... you want to shift it in the correct order, because each lever adds a slightly different ratio to the current selection.

It was nice to see that Cleetus lowered his face shield for all three runs. I hope this is the new normal. I know that in a very large percentage of the runs it doesn't matter if it's up or down. Of course, there is that small percentage when it could make a big difference. I would think Maddie and the Little Ripper would prefer this to be part of the starting line procedure for every race in every car.( I know the driver is busy with the burnout, backing up, staging, etc. The crew member staging the car could have it as part of his/her assignment to check for the face shield.)

ChatGPT says from right to left :D which is the first gear lever? In a Lenco transmission, the first gear lever is usually the one farthest to the right (for left-hand drive vehicles) or farthest to the left (for right-hand drive vehicles). The arrangement of gear levers in a Lenco transmission, from right to left (for left-hand drive vehicles), has to do with ergonomics and ease of use during high-speed drag racing. When driving a drag car, the driver's primary focus is on quick acceleration and smooth gear changes. The right-to-left lever arrangement in left-hand drive vehicles allows the driver to pull the levers towards them in a more natural and efficient motion. It minimizes the time spent moving the hand between levers, which is crucial during high-speed runs where every fraction of a second counts.

Also from lencos website Checking Shift Pressure (only on CS-1 style or center shift transmissions): To measure the shift pressure install checking lever into tower screw jam nut all the way up the tower so it's out of the way. Now rotate tower clockwise until it lightly touches pin on shift fork then rotate tower counter clockwise 2 turns and place hook of scale in top hole of checking lever supplied with transmission (this lever should be about 5 1/2" over all length) and pull scale slowly to shift section, taking note of highest reading this is your shift pressure. If the shift pressure is set to your application lock the jam nut your finished, if not you then need to add shim to raise pressure or subtract shim to reduce pressure. If needed you may vary 1 full turn up or down from your 2 turns out in order to achieve the shift pressure desired. Servo CS-1 style or center shift transmissions: Air shifted LENCOS come pre adjusted from the factory. If it is necessary to remove the servos you should reinstall with the lock nut spun completely to the top of its travel. Screw the servo into the transmission case until contact is made with the shift fork pin. Now rotate counter clockwise 1/2 to 1 turn and tighten lock nut. No further adjustments are necessary as there is ample reserve travel in the servo. CS2, CS3, CS4 & Lencodrive or offset shift transmissions: There are two different size air servos for the New Generation transmissions.The small air servo (2.5"piston diameter) and the large air servo(3"piston diameter) for the CS-2 large case transmission and Lencodrives. The air servo is attached to a rotary shift plate by an adjustable arm which is pre-set by the factory and should NOT be changed. The arm is held into the servo piston by a set screw. Run the air servo jam nut and o-ring up the threads on the servo. Screw air servo into case until it bottoms out against the jam nut. Rotate air servo into case until you see the set screw in the air servo piston boss inside the case. Apply a small amount of Red (271) Locktite on the set screw. After inserting arm into the air servo piston boss, run set screw in until you can no longer remove the arm from the piston boss. Warning: Do Not over tighten set screw. The arm must be free to move in all directions. Screw air servo counter-clockwise about five or six turns before you reassemble the transmission. Assemble next section on to case and bolt tight. Adjustment: Once installed, make sure the air servo is loose and can turn freely. Remove fill plug on top the transmission case you are going to adjust. Sight through plug hole, where you will see the outer edge of the rotary shift plate. Screw air servo in (clockwise) until you see the rotary plate start to shift, now screw air servo Out (counter-clockwise) until the rotary shift plate stops moving. Then, continue to screw air servo Out (counter-clockwise) one half turn. This will allow for free play in the shift system. Run air servo jam nut and o-ring down against the case and tighten with a 1 1/2" wrench. Do Not Over Tighten. Add fluids as necessary and install fill plug. Attach air lines and your race ready.

Impressive regardless but when you put all the right parts from the start into a foxbody, it doesn’t matter so much of what brand of engine your using, as long as it makes good power your going to have good results along with one of the key factors that really helped, like having the Haltech guys come set up the car and get it dialed in. All the other cars have been unconventional set ups that got upgraded as they evolved. Except for Mullet, but it also did pretty good from the start as well especially for how heavy that car is and with the pretty much off the shelf TSP LS engine it had in it before the big block when in.

outwards shifting in , seems to be best , one thing i did see on the interior cam is that you kindah hit the pulled lever with the back of youre hand/wrist every time you grabbed the next lever , maibe you can try to switch the short and tall levers around ( not as in shifting but unbolt and remount ) so youre arm goes over the last lever grabbing the next one , might make it feel more natural too , might be possible to switch the rods to the trans around to different levers too instead of switching the levers around so you can still shift from in ward to outwards but the shifting on the lenco goes out to in

Shift Patterns: All levers in forward position result in the transmission being in first gear. READ CLEETER READ.

I'm going to agree with right to left based solely on the ergonomics of the shift levers. When you pull the levers back the next gear you grab is the tallest and proudest handle of what gears are left in the run. I think it's designed for you to easily find the next gear. At least that's how I'd design it. With left to right you have to get your hand inbetwixt the levers and is not as intuitive.

I don't know anything about Lenco transmissions, but I would think the more natural way to shift would be from left to right. In that way, you don't have to reach around the other levers that have yet to be pulled. If the car runs faster doing it "backwards," couldn't the gears themselves be switched around so that they would be used in the left-to-right order.

You'll most likely get the highest performing result by using the levers which create the biggest difference in gear ratio first. Start with the biggest difference and go in order to least difference. That means you want to pull the 1.184 lever for the shift from 1st to 2nd, then the 1.166, then the 1.26es one at a time. The logic behind this is...in order to generate the most acceleration (regardless of power/torque) you want your RPMs to accelerate as quickly as possible. The faster you're already going, the bigger difference the same change in gear ratio would make, so the faster you're going you want smaller changes in gear ratio so the RPM can continue to accelerate as quickly as possible. Balance that with the power/torque bands and the independently balanced cost/benefit relationship with staying in gear longer vs adjusting the gear ratio more often/accurately; and you'll get the most performance. As a side note...this is where a big difference in a consumer transmission versus a racing transmission comes in to mind; a really big difference in for example a 6 speed's last 3 gears (4th, 5th, 6th) makes for better fuel mileage and debatable benefits for longevity; but that same transmission probably limits the engine's ability to reach top speed without the assistance of a big hill...a racing transmission with smaller differences between the last 3 gears not only has the opposite effects of the consumer transmission (fast fuel use and debatably bad for longevity) but allows the engine to be the limiting factor for speed and acceleration instead of the transmission...at least when the gear ratios are paired correctly with the power:weight ratio. There's another equation for you to make a Dr. McFarland episode with... Gear ratio:(power:weight). Another factor, specifically with the final gear ratio of the racing transmission is one that's very difficult to achieve in the real world - let alone in a simulation/game. Having the final gear ratio set in a way that allows the engine to produce peak power, at the vehicle's top speed...where setting the gear ratio any higher or any lower results in the top speed being reduced because the timing of reaching peak power and the mechanical/air/other resistance achieved at those speeds being overcome. IDK if that all makes sense, I hope it does.
