Spoiling children, or shifting boundaries between “total control” and “none at all” during their childhood can also lead to the development of narcissistic tendencies. Parents may feel guilty for being too strict or controlling, and therefore, they may give in to their children’s every demand in order to make them happy. While this may be done with good intentions, it can result in the child becoming accustomed to having their every need met and manipulating others to get what they want.
