I saw a video of a father giving his daughter a used car. She came out to the parking lot of her job and was happy and jumping up and down saying “I love it, it’s so ugly I love it”. Her dad told her he was sorry but she kept laughing and was just so thankful and excited. You could see the love between father and daughter was so strong by and he had raised a wonderful person.

My first car was a Ford Pinto. My dad helped me keep it working and I paid for it by my job. Handouts should not be given to entitled children. If they don't like it. Take it back, get your money back. Put it away or show them you handing it to people in need. To give in to the entitlement is the only thing that is going to keep building (entitled, snotty karens).

Yep grew up like this as well. We aren’t by any means rich, not even upper middle class. But my parents still tried hard to get me and my sister what we wanted. My mom had a little system in place to help us learn patience so we didn’t expect to have it at our feet as soon as we asked. It’s been nice growing up like that for sure, and my sister and I are very well-rounded hardworking people. The mindset that follows after being spoiled is the difference between a spoiled kid and an entitled kid.

My oldest will be 15 in a few months. She is in all honors classes (9th grade), student athlete, and plays on 2 travel sports teams outside of school for hockey and softball. She also works part time. She is so awesome, doesn't really give us a hard time about anything. She is truly her dad's best friend. She is always talking about how much she loves us and her sister. People say we are lucky, but it was alot of hard work raising her to value herself, family, and her future. Now we are, thankfully, having a pretty decent time in her teen years. It KILLS me that I would not be able to afford a new car for her when she is 16. She deserves it, but it just won't be possible financially. She knows this and has been saving her paychecks to help buy a used car when she is 16. We will be buying her a used car and she will keep her money. I just wish I could afford a nice new car for her. Cause I know she would truly appreciate it unlike that monster of a child

It kills you that you can't buy new? That's crazy. There are hundreds of millions of people who can't even afford a single used vehicle for their entire family. Talking about a used car like it's nothing is nuts. Most kids can't get a car at all. Nevermind that they are statistically going to crash it as some point. This is such an absurd mindset. Most of us adult's shouldn't even be buying brand new vehicles - even if you can financially afford it.
@No-sv6mu
@No-sv6mu 3 ай бұрын
@@lissaw4 yeah. She is an amazing kid. All honors classes, smart, respectful, works, doesn't give us any major problems. If there was a kid that should have something nice, it's her. While others her age are failing classes, drinking, smoking up, having sex... she is doing the complete opposite of that.

Don't feel too bad about it being used. My grandparents could afford new. They bought my first car used and when I tell you I drove that bad boy until I couldn't anymore🤣 rip buttons. She gave me 10 years of traveling all around the world ❤️ I wanted to keep her longer but I'd already replaced the transmission once and couldn't afford a second time. I think buying used cars regardless builds character and it still gives us a sense of responsibility as teenagers to protect our property, and take care to protect others. I got my first car as an adult in 2019, and then traded that for a mom suv in 21(my now 8 year old is still salty about this). But she will love her car no matter what if it's new or used.

@@maryssaannright? If we go to a store and there is some toy they like… oh yeah it’s cute honey! But I’m not buying it for you just because?!? You’ve got your own pocket money wich you are allowed to spend on what ever you want or you go and put it on your birthday/Christmas wish list and we will see if you get it! But NEVER ever would I buy stuff randomly and just because, not small and not big things! If they really want it they can pay for it with their money (a little weekly allowance given to them) that’s how you teach them how to be responsible and how to take care of their own money. They will learn to manage their own money and will ask themselves "do I really want this?" Because it’s always easier to spend someone else’s money than yours! Just buying your child every little thing as soon as they see it? They will think money grows in trees and they are a special little princess that gets everything they ask for "just because". And that’s not how it goes… you have to work for what you’ve got in this world. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spoil your kid every once in a while and maybe indulge them in a small treat from the store etc… but it is meant to be a small and a rare occasion not an every week thing! That’s how you get a spoiled brat that is ungrateful af.

My youngest nephew would plat cribbage with my grandfather (who almost always cheated) so my nephew decided he'd had enough of it, and played something that my grandfather always did, which made him get mad and tell my nephew that he couldn't do that, to which my nephew said, "Why not? You do it all the time." My grandfather got the same look of realization he got when I told him that pinching and poking his grandchildren with sacking needles was not acting his age, and he stopped doing those things. Maybe my youngest aunt (my mother's youngest sister) picked up her game cheating from her dad. She didn't like losing, but sometimes even her cheating didn't help her.

For as far back as I can remember, we played a weird cutthroat/pushover style of UNO if little kids were playing. Like, we'd absolutely hit a kid with a draw 4 if we had to, but then all the adults would do things like "forget" to declare UNO or would draw when we didn't need to so that the kid could then brutalize us right back.

I have a niece who would throw fits when she didn't get her way. Her parents always gave in and let her do what she wanted. One time, we were playing her Wii game on my projector. She decided none of the rest of us could play because it was her game, so she didn't have to share. So I walked over and turned off the projector and said, this is my projector and I don't want to share it. That was the end of that.

Thank god I have the most understanding child. He deserves the world and more. I wish I could give him so much, and it’s heartbreaking how understanding he is because it makes me wish even more that I could give him everything. He’s so understanding and empathetic. Such a huge heart. Some people say I’m lucky. It’s not luck, he’s just parented correctly… And I love it when he calls his friends out for how they are treating their mother if he sees a friend act out for not getting something they wanted.

For my youngest daughter’s ’Sweet Sixteen’, she asked that three or four girls be allowed to spend the night, and that we provide 3 cans of silly string for each of them. She then went door to door in our cul-de-sac and got permission to run in their yards for a silly string fight as long as they picked up the silly string. We shopped for snacks. Cul-de-sac was clear of silly string next morning, and the girls had a blast.

My mom was a single mom of 2 doing what she could to make sure we had the things other kids would get. I adore my mom for everything she did for us growing up and still appreciate her now even as shes a grandma to my niece. In case anyone was wondering how a 16 year old girl could fix a wrecked panel, i in fact asked my mom to buy a 30 pack and paid it to a man down the road who gladly accepted lol

My dad brought home car brochures for me from the time I was 16 because I didn't want to drive. He would have bought me any sort of mid priced nice car I had wanted and I was just like, I do not want to drive! lol I didn't drive until I was 20 and it probably saved him a fortune. My sister wrecked 3 cars before she was out of high school! He didn't have to drive me anywhere, my friends did that. He was an airline pilot, so he made good money. He insisted on buyin me a new car when I was about 25-26 before he retired because he was just like "let me do this for you before I retire!" I'm 48, he's probably still going to give me money for xmas even though I tell him not to! I got most everything I wanted growing up, but I think because I grew up in a military family and travelled around, I saw how much other people didn't have and I watched the news every night, I just knew I had it good and always appreciated it.

What a sweet gift! I bet it runs well too. I would love to have a van. I live on 20 acres in a very rural area with goats, chickens, and other animals, so a van would be ideal for hauling feed bags and some new baby goats I was 22 when my dad gave me his old car in 1983. It was a 1970 4-door Oldsmobile land yacht with a few dents and no AC. It was beige. Even my grandmother said it was boring! It ran great because dad was a stickler about maintenance. In fact, while I was a teenager he would ask me to "help" him with repairs such as replacing brakes (I helped by bleeding the brakes while he described the process of changing brake pads and getting rotors turned instead of replacing them). He showed me the radiator cooling system and taught me how to put a hose clamp on a cracked hose to stop a leak, taught me which fluids go where and how to check correctly and often, and the proper names and locations for various parts. I'm so grateful for that now because I can describe car problems to a mechanic without sounding like a complete idiot. As a teen I wasn't interested in owning a car because I was scared of all the things that can go wrong. I figured I'd only work at jobs that were close enough to ride my bicycle to. However, those weekends hanging out with dad and talking about life are some of my most treasured memories. I learned much more than vehicle maintenance. When I was 22 I applied for a tech job that I didn't feel qualified for, and to my shock, I was hired! It was 12 miles away so I wasn't looking forward to riding my bike that far but it's good exercise and I'd be stupid not to take the job! Mom and Dad congratulated me and said they wanted to take me out to dinner downtown to celebrate, but he's not sure if there's enough gas in the tank so would I mind driving it to the station down the street to fill it up while they got ready? Um, okay, strange request, especially since we usually took Mom's car because it was nicer but sure... I came back, told them the car had more than half a tank already but I filled it the rest of the way, and here's your keys back, Dad. Dad said, "Those aren't MY keys! They're yours!" I looked out at that beat-up Oldsmobile hoopty in the driveway that was as stylish as a bowl of plain oatmeal and burst into the "ugly cry" of joy. I've never felt more loved in my life! At that moment it dawned on me that Dad spent all those weekends teaching me so that by the time I was ready for a car I'd feel more confident in my abilities. He also wanted me to have the safest car possible and I didn't care that it was "uncool" to my friends. They changed their minds when they realized it could carry 7 people comfortably. I wouldn't have traded it for a Mercedes!

One day my brother was pissing me off while we were playing together so I broke a single vine on his house, in Minecraft, and he started balling his eyes out. I apologized but then my dad came into my room and picked up the playstation. He then brought it outside and destroyed it. Like I really don’t know what was going through his head because that just made my brother cry even more. You let them win but sometimes you have to let them lose so they can learn HOW to lose like a winner. Being a bad sport was just not allowed in my parents home. If you lost, you lost with a smile, you shook hands or gave a hug or whatever, no throwing down cards and stomping away. You might toss them down with an "aw...damn! You beat me!" But it would be with good humour. I grew up playing cards with adults (euchre, 500, canasta, poker, blackjack, cribbage etc) snooker, pool, billiards etc and if you wanted to be allowed to play you had to act like a grown up and not throw a hissy fit if you lost OR prance around if you won. I was once playing poker with a guy who plays regularly for money and I kept cleaning him out. I was out bluffing him and even when he did beat me, I lost with a smile and it just threw him off his game. The last hand I actually had a superb hand and went all in, he thought I was bluffing and I won the lot and he was almost in tears. Losing with a smile is a great way to out psyche your opponent as well as being a good way of living your life.

The hardest thing in the world for a parent to learn is saying no! I've cried downstairs while my sons were crying upstairs but the answer remained the same. Yes, I'm bragging, I have three wonderful grown up sons who would give the shirt off their backs to help someone in need. They treat everyone with respect and are absolute gentleman. I can honestly say that tantrums ended pretty quickly in my house. I'd tell them to have at it and let me know when they were done lol. Even outside, if my 2/3 yr old was having a tantrum on the floor, I would just stand by them and tell people, don't mind us, we're just having a learning moment. Once they figure out that screaming doesn't work, they give up, but you give in? well, that's the rest of their childhood spent screaming lol

The thing I hated most about that job is that the parents always gave in to the kids eventually, so they would try to wear my down after I had said no multiple times. The worst part was when the parents came home, they said no as well, but then always ended up saying yes. The next babysitting job I took, I made sure that my parenting views aligned with my client's parenting views!

I used to dress my kids in overalls a lot in winter and once when my then 3 yr old daughter threw a tantrum in a store and threw herself to the floor, I just used the straps on the back of the overalls like handles and picked her up like a handbag, left my trolley where it was and started walking out of the shop. She was so surprised she instantly shut up and asked where we were going. I said we were going home because I didn't want to be seen with such a badly behaved child which was sad because usually you are so good at the shops. She then started to beg me to put her down so we could go back and she promised she she would behave. I only had to do it once... and we did go home. My kids know that when I say something like NO... I mean it.

The thing that comes closest was maybe forgetting my Teddy in vacation and my parents went back to pick it up. The people we were travelling with didn't get it but I was calm and greatful after. I also still have the Teddy. Granted, I mostly couldn't have outward meltdowns because it wasn't safe, but even now the go inward. Which is apparently more common in women and girls. If it is an autism meltdown I wonder what she really needs, because the phone would most likely be a stimming tool

I think we’re all in agreement with “Sweet 16” girl. Mom is raising a spoiled kid, which is going to carry over into adulthood. Yeah, take the car back to get another. She is part of the problem. That $1600 would mean a lot to most of us. My 16th, my two good friends came over. Had a sleepover. Ordered them food and I ate “blendered” Chef Boyardee. I had just had jaw surgery (one of too many) a week before my birthday.

I am pretty sure that I got nothing for my 16th birthday. In fact, for most of my birthdays I considered myself lucky to get a birthday cake and sometimes a card. Even those stopped by the age of 12 or 13. As a young adult my parents would take my Mom, sister and I out for a “shared birthday dinner” as all of our birthdays are in the same month - usually on my sister’s birthday as it was first up. My birthday was 2 days after my Mom’s birthday, which my Dad always remembered and asked me to pick up a gift for her. But by the time my birthday rolled around (literally 2 days later - every year!) it was often forgotten because “we already celebrated this month”. So no cake, no card, no Happy Birthday wishes - nothing. I learned early that my life events were not a priority for my family. Lesson learned and not forgotten!

I feel like the mom knew what the girl wanted and got her something she didn’t want on purpose to make her mad. The mom probably asked her what car she wanted and got her something else so she could make the video, knowing her parenting is trash and her kid would throw a tantrum. I definitely know what it feels like to ask for something specific and in a specific color and then they get you something you didn’t ask for and then expect you to be thankful. Which you should still be thankful but I feel like the person knows they’re annoying you a little bit by asking you what you what just to get you something else.

The card joked saying, "you thought you were getting a car didn’t ya??? HAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!" Nothing else. After the birthday, I was screamed at that I better get a corporate job (I had 2 side hustles already, landscaping and housekeeping) before the school year ended because they didn't want to be responsible for me. (Clothes, food, transportation, etc... those were luxuries I NEEDED to figure out now.) Reminder, I just turned 16. I was essentially told I was a burden all my life on my birthday, and they told me I needed to fend for myself. Like I already wasn't struggling... I would've never stopped crying/hugging the Mom if I got a busted car or even $50. When you've been breadcrumbed all your life, you'll accept anything because you're starved. I remember when I got my first car (a Ford truck), it was an older model but my parents made a deal that if I made the honor roll, they would buy me my first car. I worked very hard and I brought home a report card full of A’s and a B. I was overjoyed and looking back now, I can’t thank them enough for teaching me the value of hard work. I have one biological daughter and she has always been precocious. She has also always been remarkably easy to raise. Her tantrum stage was delayed, though. Around five she decided on a tantrum test drive. When we were both calm again, we sat down to talk. I explained that this was not the way people get what they want and as a reminder, in future if she threw a tantrum, not ONLY would she not get whatever the tantrum was about, she wouldn’t get the NEXT thing she asked for, either. About a week and two tantrums later she crawled up on my lap and said conversationally, “This tantrum thing isn’t working for me.” Bingo!

They drove into the desert and stopped at an Arab encampment where his father was friends with the chieftain. There were goats, sheep, camels, tents and a dozen tents. His father left him there and drove off. For a year he lived with the tribe doing all activities they did to stay alive. Then one day his dad showed up and took him home. He told me that was the best thing that ever happened to him and led to his successful life because he learned to take nothing for granted.

When you're ready to talk about your problem, I am ready to listen. " I sat down and picked up a paper. She screamed and thumped her little legs on the floor. No response. Rinse and repeat for a while. Finally, she was silent. I peeped behind the paper. She was sitting up indignantly. Then she came over. "Mummy, can I talk wiv oo now, please?" "Certainly," I said, with all the magnanimity I could muster without wetting myself laughing. "What is the problem you want to talk about?" This was almost 40 years ago. Nowadays, people are scared of their kids. They are terrified that the neighbours will call in child services if a child is having a tantrum.

It's a cute story but my family wouldn't have been able to afford the maintenance for a benz or mustang or whatever. Anyway, a lot of these videos are staged ragebait

I’m completely appalled by the sweet 16 gift situation.. that was a real slap in the face for the mom!! She’s definitely raising a narcissist and it’s disgusting to see!! 🤬💔

I felt bad for the mum right untill the end of that clip where she says ‘ I guess I’ll take back the car and see if I can find her a pink Mercedes ‘ excuse me what?? You see your child is so spoiled and ungrateful to the point of ridiculousness , and your answer is to reward her and give her what she wants? That mum is creating a monster. I have no sympathy

I'm a former child abuse investigator. I am a huge advocate for children's rights. I would have called children and family services that day and told them to come and get my daughter. To quote Charlotte "ABSOLUTELY NOT!"

I would have cried tears of gratitude if my parents got me a car, and if I would have seen the cash, I'd be sobbing 😮

Oh please! If my parents would have given me a car on my 16th birthday, I would have suspected dad of robbing a bank.

My sweet 16 was 36 inch Poulan chainsaw so that I could work better BY MYSELF! when cutting down trees for firewood cause Dad could not stand the smell of propane from the gas heater. It made it hard for him to breath and we couldn't afford to have it fixed. So it was wood heater or freeze.

My brother and I threw one tantrum. Just one. My mother said something like if you don't stop and start behaving right now we are leaving. Being at the store with mum was very important so we stopped and behaved. First and last time.

My daughter was the sweetest. Never had to humble her - because win or lose, she was happy just to play the game ❤️ Some kids definitely needs humbling 😆
