Probably because there not taught why they should learn. If I was told is school there is a language that’s more scientific than any other and so precise you can convey anything, I would have understood there are a lot of things we know that have been lost that I can learn if I learn Sanskrit and interpret the words the right way. to understand and study bufdhism you do not need to study sanskrit. the utterances of the Buddha where originally compiled in pali, only afterwards translated into sanskrit. There are excellent translations available in print and online on sutta central. just google sutta central. they also have an excelleng free app. 🙏 buddha saranam gacchami, dhamma saranam gacchami, sangha saranam gacchami i bow to the buddha, i bow to the dhamma, i bow to the sangha 🙏

There are 3 crore students who learn Samskrit in school, college & veda pathashalas (though majority of them do not speak). "The number is still decreasing "...... But actually the number of volunteers is increasing day by day. So We, karyakartas, should not give a destitute look for the language. As a Russian speaker (Ukrainian), I can totally hear how this Sanskrit language influenced the cadence and words in Russian. I studied sanskrit as my second language during my 8th to Xth standard and also in my X!std in Bangalore. My exposure to Sanskrit has only been through the musical compositions of the trinity of karnatak music and the hymns of Adi shankaracharya and that of Siddantha Shikhamani of Shivayogi shivacharya, exponent of shakthi vishishta advaitha philosophy. Sanskrit also lives in the Sanskriti of Bharat! it still lives through mantras, puja, yajna, even the languages of India! So even though spoken sanskrit as a first language is only 15000, please who know and use it is VERY large in the millions!

The person would ask, "Bhavata: nama Kim". The answer for this would not just be a simple "Kim" It would be something like, "Mama Nama Kimaha:" which might mean "My name is Kim" or it might also mean "What is my name" I suppose Anyway, good question
