Great video, Hither Green was a still is a favourite haunt. Remember the 56 ArC trains running through Bexley. Going round depot with usually upto 10 locos on depot and of course the sidings. Great videos love the EPBs and CEPs

the familiar whine of the EMUs. And you couldn't mistake a 33 sound for any other engine. Love it. Just around the days when everyone started getting video cameras - my parents first hired one from DER in about 1986. Probably bought one 1989. 8:53 those trains are gloriously filthy lol

Wonderful archive video. Just loved the Cromptons and i wonder if that class 31 had come over from Stratford to collect a failed 47325 ? Thanks for sharing, regards, Colin.

I so remember commuting on those EPBs on the Dartford loop. Such solid trains. And I remember the 3rd rail electric locos

What a great video, capturing a very busy Hither Green station with a grand amount of different freights too. I've spotted a few unusual workings too for 1989, it was rare in those days to see "bagpipes " (class 33/1s) on freights on the south eastern section let alone two double heading that ballast train southbound , and also to see a class 31. The 31 passed southbound and took the approach road into Hither Green yard , it returned past heading North pulling a "dead" 47 I may be wrong but I suspect it was sent from somewhere up north to collect the "duff" to return it to its home depot for repairs . Great video sir, I'm a big fan and love your vids for prosperity.

Round the corner, up the slope is the snicket leading to a grandstand view of the depot. And what a view it was back in the day.

awwww brilliant. guys i spent about 7 hours at berrylands back in the early 1990s one afternoon..well morning went into afternoon with a video recorder and remembering a hampton court service train driver went down to hampton court, upto waterloo then down and back up again..and then he said to me when he stopped..”awight mate..you still here? blimey!!” and the other day, i saw a pic of berrylands station, and in the picture there is a back metal grit/salt bin on the platform and i remember that day putting that video recorder case on this bin and using it as a table to set up the camera. so gutted as i lost those tapes unfortunately!!

I too have carelessly recorded over audio tapes I made as way back as 1974....so I know the feeling....at least this material is safe for now on YT....I hope.....best wishes...Mark

@@spompey morning matey. aww bless you bro..yeah i was at berrylands for hours that day, around 1990/1…and in particular i really wanted a TC/REP to go past, but at that time they were so few running each day as most had been withdrawn for the 442s but BR ran some to make up the gaps for the service….and then a 8 car TC with two 73s coupled in the rear approached and i got it!!! i was gutted a REP was wasn’t there, but at least a got its old mate in its good old blue/grey livery!! such a shame i lost this tape!! such good days..i was a year or two to young to of been able to work for BR…there now though!! yaaaay!! 😃😃😃

A surprising number of CEPs in 'Jaffa Cake' livery considering that it was only current for about a year. And (5:25) an MLV! 😮

About a quarter of the type received the Jaffa Cake livery if I'm correct. Many got the livery in the run up to the start of electric train services to Hastings.

27:35I think I'd say that was very definitely NOT an authorised walking route, even with hi vis vests, about an inch from the up fast line with their backs to oncoming trains and just a casual glance round
