Disclaimer, I am a mic snob. Loved this, well done. You have lost weight, well done again. I only have old Unidyne III versions of the SM57. They are much heavier than the standard SM57. And each one of them is a different weight, I assume the oldest is the heaviest, but can't prove it. The heaviest is near twice the weight of the current SM57. The in my case, the heavier they are, the better they sound. YRMV.

Hey Brad! Big fan of yours, here! About the SM57, it depends what you use it for. You can get very good results if you find the perfect spot where to place it and, if needed, you can always use some EQ to get rid of those 350Hz to 450Hz that make some sources sound "boxy" and add some top end frequencies....but you know all this! I've seen your videos, you're a smart guy, so that's why I was surprised when I read your comment.
@aragorn767
@aragorn767 3 жыл бұрын
There are better mics for all applications than the 57. The Audix D6 is a better kick mic, the Lewitt DTP 440 DM is a better snare mic, the Telefunken M80's are better tom mics, the ATM 450 and Warm Audio 87's are better cymbal and room mics, the SM7B is a better vocal mic, MXL makes better mics for acoustic instruments, ect. The difference is that the SM57 is one of the only mics that sound atleast pretty good in almost all situations, which can't be said for the others. I've even heard of 57's used on kicks (not in metal, though. I think it was old R&B or something similar).
@aragorn767
@aragorn767 3 жыл бұрын

I actually kind of liked a bit of the high end prescence the behringer added. To me the bite it added wasn't too harsh and worked for the metal mix especially on the lead guitar. I think using it for a cone sound and then blending it with warmer Ribbon or Condenser might sound great for a heavy rock or metal tone. Overall didn't think it was a terrible sound at all for a mic that is 1/5 the price of an SM57.

Personally, ive been using the Behringer. Also have a sm57 and 58, among others. Its not the #1 mic ever, but its certainly serviceable and usable. Handy on a tom, or overhead(if its all i had) or room mic. Not at all bad on guitar, or snare. Better options, but not bad. And the price, you can get 2 and youll probably use them. Hey let's not forget that the SL-75C comes alphabetically before SM-57. Also the fact that 75 and 57 are basically mirrored opposites of one another also make them totally different. Plus it sounds as if Behringer has put a built in high pass filter on the SL-75C means it's one less plugin that needs to be used whilst mixing. So if you want your mix of s to be the audio equivalent of chewing on aluminum foil, then this is the mic for you!!!

Im working with a group distantly recording audio and video for Nasty 90s contest. We’ve had a slight setback and checking how hard cut the deadline is- if strictly only up to 399,999 or if entries accepted a couple days after 40k is hit.

3 years ago I bought 3 or 4 Behringer SM58 ripoffs just so to have some mikes for backing vocals in my band. Only one of those mikes still works. Turns out they are extremely fragile and if it is dropped on the ground, there's a high chance it won't work ever again. If you need a cheap mic, get a Samson. It turned out a lot better.

the SL75C sounded pretty good on those solos, and I'm listening through laptop speakers with the rain outside, so obviously I'm getting the best playback possible

I love the way you get up at the end to show your true opinion of them.....half-dressed which means the SL75C is WHOLE-ASSed in the audio department. PASS ON IT! Of course, Glenn shows he has a future in corporate shilling if he ever decides to flex his vocal talents!

Honest. I want a sm57. I have considered others, but they are not the same. My SM58 has lasted me over 20 years and still going strong even after my kid stepped on it. Glenn is right, the Behringer would be great for on stage, on jam night, for other people to use!

I assume that glenn has had that suit for a while cuz it fits big on him. You can tell how much weight he lost. Good for him, thats a big inspiration for me

I actually liked it on the voiceover. Needed a bit of lowpass filter but it had a nice even tone on his voice compared to the hyped bassy sound of the oktavas. I also really liked that hyped upper on the guitar, but maybe not so much for drums. Gives kind of a nice "cut" in the mix. As for the body design, pretty sure they just didn't cut that part to save money. Less cut, faster machining, lower cost. I don't think they considered weight and feel on a $20 mic. And the look... How many other mics look like that? hundreds? thousands? microphone body design hasn't changed much. And honestly it's nice that they fit into existing sm57 rigs. You don't have to rebuild your kit to fit a new mic when you switch to your "bar gear" for the price I was expecting a lot worse, and Glen even found a few uses for them. Possibly a good gift idea since they are cheap and work well as blender mics. I would also consider these for "room mics" and boom mics which often seem to fall or find their way onto the floor.
