I want to see more of the undocumented world. I am particularly interested in the videos by Baldandbankrupt. I hope to take the cheap flight adventure series to more obscure places. I am interested in Moldova, Transnistria, Donetsk & Luhansk, Dnipro, Kazakhstan and Georgia. The problem is that there are many people who are not interested in watching videos of places they have not heard of. There is a large proportion of my viewers just want me to do places in the UK, and may only take an interest in a foreign place if it is some famous places that they know of. I get a lot of requests from people to visit various smaller cities and towns in the UK. I really don't want to sound rude or negative towards any of my fans, but I have lost interest in the UK other than the big cities. Also traveling around the UK is expensive, and I don't personally feel it is rewarding for me. This now creates a massive problem for me. Do I create content that the largest proportion of my viewers want. Or do I create the content that I want, which possibly a smaller number of people will be interested in.

I will tell a bit about Kharkiv, its transport and the reasons why railways in Ukraine are so bad Kharkiv is Ukraine's 2nd largest city and one of the closest to the Russian border. Overall the city is alright, also given to the fact that the city hosted the 2012 Eurocup. I've been there many times and i can tell you that it's not boring. Now about it's transport system. It consists of a metro, trolleybus system, tram system, ropeway, a children railway and bus services. - The Metro was opened in 1975 and it has 3 lines: Kholodnohirsko-Zavodska, Saltivska and Oleksiivska (you can simply call them lines 1, 2 and 3, just to not struggle with the names). It uses the Russian 1520mm gauge and 825v DC third rail supply. The roling stock is consisted of: Ezh-3 series (built 1973-1979 by Metrovagonmash, 5 cars, DC resistor drive), 81-717/714 "Nomernoy" (built since 1976 by Metrovagonmash), 81-718/719 "Nomernoy" (built between 1991-2004 by Metrovagonmash, a modification that has a Thyristor drive), 81-7036/7037 (built in 2010 by Kryukov Train Factory, single set) and modernized Ezh-3 series trains. - The tram system was opened in 1906 and it has 17 routes. It is often considered one of the most knackered in Ukraine, even more than the Kiev's. The reason being mostly poor track conditions and rolling stock conditions, which often causes derails. The rolling stock is consisted of: Tatra T3/T3SU (built 1962-1999 by CKD Tatra), Tatra T6B5 (built 1983-2007 by CKD Tatra), 71-619 (aka KTM-19, built 1999-2012, by Ust-Katav Tram Factory), Tatra T6A5 (built 1991-1998 by CKD Tatra, second hand trams brought from Prague in 2016) and modernized Tatra T3 trams called VPA/VPNP (modernized 2009, 2018) - The Trolleybus system opened in 1939 and it has 24 routes. For some weird reason, they don't go into the city centre, despite having a fully functional overhead infrastructure). The fleet is consisted of: ZiU 682G-016.02 (built 2002-2015 by Trolza), LAZ E301D1 (built 2006-2013 by Lviv Bus Factory, articulated), LAZ E183A1 (built 2006-2013 by Lviv Bus Factory), Bogdan T70117 (built since 2010 by Lutsk Car Factory) and Skoda 14Tr and 15Tr (brought second hand from Riga, Plzen and Ceske-Budejovice) -The ropeway is a weird but still interesting feature in Kharkiv's transport. Despite being mainly used as an attraction, it was meant to be a form of public transport. It was opened in 1971, it's almost 1.4 km long, the whole journey takes about 18 minutes and you can touch leaves along the way while admiring some great views of the park. -The Children's "Mala Pivdenna" Railway is a very interesting entry. It is mainly used as an attraction as well as a formation centre for children in the railway works field. It has a narrow 750mm gauge and it's served by TU2 and TU7A locomotives pulling trains consisting of Pafawag 3aw and PV-40 railcars. -And finally the buses. They've been serving Kharkiv since 1925. The fleet is mainly made of marshrutkas, such as Bogdan Ruta, TUR, BAZ, MAZ and ZAZ, but there are also big capacity buses such as MAN-NL202 and Bogdan-A601. Now to the reasons why Ukraine's railways are so bad. The rail operator "Ukrzaliznitsya" has been blame for many year, but for what exactly. -Poor rolling stock conditions (the deterioration rate is estimated to be between 90% and 200%!) -All trains run late (medium delay is 20-30 minutes) -Poor track conditions (hence the slow speed, because of many speed limits) -Poor service such as dirty sheets in night trains, delays as cited before, poor assistance, dirty carriages, overcrowding issues on some rail lines and many more that i can talk about all day. You can see many complaints on Facebook towards the rail operator, and trust me, these make UK's National Rail look even better.

I've been on those trains. It is way less scary if you ride during the daytime. Suburban trains in Kharkiv are infrequent. The people who live in suburban areas have to be on time or else they will have to wait for another 1.5 hours. It happened to me once. Another thing. Don't just go out to some random location at night on those trains. Service back to Kharkiv is very rare during those times. Since I have been to Kharkiv multiple times, you can ask me any questions. I'll try to answer them.

Creepy indeed, and weird timetable setup. Might bee a small region. Söderhamn is part of a region that have a couple of regional train departures per day, but it is cosistent and have modern trains... There is, however, a route I found that only had a passenger train service only twice a day and direction. Once in the early morning and another in the late evnings. Including the night trains, it makes 4 trains. It was on the route between Umeå and Luleå wia the small villages inwards from the coastline.

I have no idea why they set acceleration rate so low on them. A driver can actually select from several settings on ER2R/T and ET2 (aka the trains that don't have rounded ends) and I'm not even sure if the lowest setting is *that* slow.
@benolifts
@benolifts 4 жыл бұрын
From what I remember of the Kyiv ones, there is just 4 levels of power. Resistor 1 - 0 to 5 mph Resistor 2 - 5 to 12 mph Resistor 3 - 12 to 25 mph (it feels like it has almost ran out of power when it gets to 25 mph) Direct drive - 25mph and over. These trains seem extremely simplistic. I have never known a resistor DC train to have so few resistors. On the Kyiv ones, when each resistor kicks in it accelerates really quick for moment, but quickly tails off. On these Kharkiv ones, it feels like it has a completely different resistor set up. On the 25 mph sections it feels like it never changes resistor and stays on just the first one and very slowly gets to 25 mph. On the 40 mph sections it feels like it changes to a second resistor at 15 mph. It feels like direct drive is either never used (which seems unlikely), or that the trains have smaller motors, or smaller motor to weight ratio. I don't belive that these trains have settings, as they are far too simple for this. I have a slight feeling that the Kharkiv trains don't even use a resistor drive, and just have some resistors wired up to the motor in a primitive manner. (throttle position 1 is resistor 1, throttle position 2 is resistor 2). Looking at how everything in Kharkiv barely works, it wouldn't surprise me. If this is the case, it is scary that they can not even get an outdated technology to work correctly, how can a place be so backwards.

@@benolifts these trains have actually evolved from 20s British technology (equipment on their far predecessors was by Metropolitan-Vickers), so they're technically somewhat similar to camshaft-controlled EMUs in the UK. There are 19 (if I remember correctly) steps with decreasing resistance on series, then same on parallel and a few field weakening steps (there are maybe some for series as well, don't remember). Acceleration rate switch in cab selects a current preset that determines at what current the camshaft will turn to the next step, from 100something amps to 420 (which is quicker than trains in Kiev), older ER1 and ER2 didn't have that and used a fixed preset of 275A. And master controller handle has either i 8 notches (off, shunt, series, series weak field, manual notching hold, manual notching +1, parallel, parallel weak field) on ER1/2 and 10 (brake 4, brake 3, brake 2, brake 1, off, shunt, series, series WF, parallel, parallel WF) on later trains - manual notching was replaced with rate switch and regenerative braking was added (previously they used air brakes only, actually they still do in the video, as dynamic braking can be in total disrepair by now). Also, Kiev trains run on 25kV AC and these run on 3kV DC - the only fundamental difference on ER9M/E for AC is addition of ACB, transformer and rectifier. And many trains started to behave differently over the years - I've seen many ER2/EM2 in Moscow that had a noticeable lag at around 25mph before switching to parallel due to some certain relays being adjusted poorly. There is an interesting type of failure related to this on them btw - if some power relays don't switch in the right sequence when switching to parallel power steps, it produces a considerable jolt that, when not fixed for a while, trashes dampers on bogies and a car starts shaking vigorously above ~50mph, the ride experience becomes a lot like a strong earthquake.

I have been to Switzerland twice. The second time I did a weeks adventure across Switzerland. We did it as a homeless adventure where we were sneaking into beds in hotel service areas and in hammocks in communal areas of hotels. And despite us doing the adventure on the cheap (we even sneaked on funiculars without paying), it still ended up being one of my more expensive adventures. Switzerland's funiculars and cable cars are nice, and the citys are full of top of the range lifts, but I don't feel that Switzerland offers quite enough for its extremely high cost, even though I do think Switzerland is a nice place.

Supermarkets are small and don't have that big range of products, but a third of them just contains Vodka and spirits. The are some people here that absolutely stink of vodka. Also, the coal fire smell is because a lot of electric trains have a coal fire for their heating, and use fans to blow the heat around the train. I don't know if this one does, or if the smell has blown in from other trains.

The train we go in is one of these and is packed with hundreds of people who live and work there everyday. Even though it’s well documented, it’s worth seeing. You can just go and keep the photos for your own personal use if you feel you can’t offer something different to your viewers that they haven’t seen before. That said, there is always something new in Chernobyl to see, it is these exact trains though which you go on. The locals reserve their seats the night before by leaving trinkets on them. When you board the train you have to find somewhere to sit which isn’t reserved.

@@benolifts Just because ) Sometimes there is really nothing close enough at these stations. If you asked about station "1032 км" on route to Kramatorsk (it's Donetsk region) , it means 1032 km from Moscow, not from Kharkov )) but at the same time we have stations like "92 км" or "8 км" - they means destinations from station Харьков-Пассажирский [Kharkov-Passazhirskiy] (also named as "Южный вокзал" [Yuzhnyi vokzal] in russian or "Південний вокзал" [Pivdennyi vokzal] in ukrainian, which means "Main station of Southern Railway"). Or destination from waypoint on short jumper lines. Route to Kramatorsk is more than 5 hours (poezdato.net/raspisanie-elektrichki/6289--harkov-pass--kramatorsk/). But not all routs are so long. Some trains (we call them "elektrichki" by the way) run to closest regional center Poltava (~125 km), some - only to the nearest suburbs (20-30 km). Until 2015 we had very convenient international suburban train between Kharkov and russian Belgorod (~85 km), but than "Ukrzaliznytsia" ("Ukrainian Railway") unfortunately decided to cancel it "because of war", but all long distance trains from ukrainian cities to Russia are still run and ironically are the most profitable trains of "Ukrzaliznytsia"

@benolifts
@benolifts Жыл бұрын
I doubt that they have. It is in the remote country side. The Russians are mainly targeting military sites, shopping centers, and residential tower blocks. Railways don't seem to be attacked much, probably because they would need them working if their invasion was successful. The main parts of the railway that are main station halls at the terminus stations.
