Honestly, I felt kinda bad for the Priest after he got that reaction from the kids when he exorcised Molluk back to hell, because they didn’t understand the danger of what Molluk was doing to everyone including themselves and genuinely thought he was their friend. And the Priest didn’t even take their anger personal, he just limped back to his church without even looking for thanks, despite his injuries. He was honestly a great character for real throughout the entire episode. I also like how this episode gave the boys actual character substance with relatable issues such as complicated parent and child dynamics. All in all this episode was a solid 10/10 in my book.

The way this episode highlights the good and bad of almost all the main characters besides the cops is perfect and even they got a great but short moment. Starting with the less important ones: Frank is rightfully untrustworthy based off him being a kidnapper but he genuinely cares about the kids and is a helpful ally to them. Jaune is a very supportive friend but struggles to actually give advice to Lila on how to improve herself. Roy is a genuinely good kid in a horrible situation where the only people who are good to him are trying to be taken away from him by his own mother which causes him to take it out on others who don’t deserve it. Kevin is a nice guy who tries his best to deal with the kids in a nice way but he can be incredibly harsh on himself and his situation. Lila is a widow with a hyperactive child who dearly loves her son and will do anything to protect him but when things get tough she’ll usually avoid her problems by sending skid to play with pump. Father Gregor has good intentions with trying to help the kids and others but also let’s his biases cloud his judgement in situations which is exemplified by him making skid and pump believe that they need to do better for their parents to be proud of them which something incredibly insensitive to say to two 6-8 year olds. Lastly our main duo of skid and pump are kindhearted and well intentioned kids who are incredibly oblivious which leads to them unknowingly causing problems for others while they’re trying to have fun. Great series and I can’t wait to see how it continues.

Meanwhile, we also have characters like: Rick, who's just so tired and depressed that he doesn't even try. Moving between job after job, quitting usually after a few days. He sold kids beer once. Ignacio hates everything and everyone. He lives alone in his very borded up house, has nothing nice to say about anyone, and is not afraid to pull a gun on someone. He might also be a cultist, specifically the one who burned down John's house. Mayor Evermore is your typical no-nonsense politician. He also has nothing nice to say and is always looking for ways to gain more power. He made it illegal for anyone except the police to own firearms, he's ready and willing to replace his workforce at a moments notice, and he's not afraid of making back alley deals, when he hired the hobos to commit arson. He also might be mixed up in the cult.

I love Gregor's character depth- all throughout he is both an all-too-serious and judgy old man who is heavy-handed and too strict with the children, but when it comes down to it he very much genuinely cares about them and all his fellow man and is willing to risk his life and tank demon bites to protect the town and do his job. And we see at the end that he gets next to no appreciation for genuinely good advice to Lila. He's not a one-note character you can write off as all good or all bad, but the summation of all his best and worst traits is ultimately that he cares for others and is serious about his faith. Hope to see him resist Eyes's influence later and await rescue

Fun Fact: Moloch is a real demonic entity from old Jewish folklore. People used to sacrifice their firstborn children to him by igniting the interior of Moloch's statue/furnace and burning them inside of it. If Father Gregor didn’t exercise them when Skid and Pump voluntarily got possessed, that likely would’ve been it for them. Besides Moloch though, the most they’ve done is just mischief (not counting them causing the death of Roy’s Uncle cause I consider that a good thing). As for Dexter’s Soul I thought that maybe his soul got lost somehow due to Moloch being in his body when they died, not really sure how that whole possession thing works. Skid's mom is not a bad mom, she just prefers not to solve her problems and cover her anxiety and sadness with alcohol, and that Pump feels lonely without the help and guidance from his parents, they both feel like they're a bargain for their parents, and actually most children in these kind of situations think about it in this way, like they are the trouble. While Father Gregor was rough in his approach, you could really tell he genuinely wanted to help and protect the kids, even if Skid and Pump took the message he was trying to give the wrong way a bit, partially his own fault for being so blunt and unmoving. He doesn't have the social grace, the demeanor, or tact to talk to kids about this sort of thing in a way that really communicates what he wants to impart. He didn't even realize his guidence was a little too straightforward for ones as well meaning and innocent as Skid and Pump to get fully. Being kids, they thought they needed to be forgiven, else they wouldn't be loved by their parents or that bad things would happen, when all Father Gregor wanted was for them to behave so they wouldn't get hurt or worry their parents. He wanted them to apologize, and move on (words like "forgiveness" are really easy for a kid to latch onto and worry about). Father Gregor knows how sacred the bond between a parent and their child is and cares about it deeply himself and for them, and that's why he, albeit far too rigidly, stayed by their side to try and encourage them to be kinder and to help them build a better understanding of the world. While his approach may not be what works best for Skid and Pump, it was a lesson the kids had to learn eventually. Also, Lila 100% needed to hear that, and Father Gregor was probably the only one willing to say it so upfront. I really like Father Gregor and hope to see him again.

Father Gregor is human and rightfully calls out Lila for not watching her kid. I don’t think Pelo is religious so it’s nice to see him still respect other’s religions. Especially since the church is right, the holy water does work and Father Gregor successfully exorcized moloch multiple times. Good job Pelo, no notes.

So this episode’s sub theme was definitely parental neglect on both Skid and Pump’s end and as much as I like Lila, I think she needed to hear that from Father Gregor and hopefully she’s gonna prioritize Skid more. But one thing that I don’t see anyone talking about is how they handled the more “controversial” side of the church and it’s morals. It is refreshing that the priest wasn’t a creep but I’m glad that the episode didn’t shy away from still criticizing how Christianity handles “forgiveness”, how not everyone is going to forgive you, how the mentality that “you should always apologize even when you were the one hurt” can be a harmful mentality to have. And then there’s the whole mentality that you have to be “good” for your parents to love you. Despite the priest having good intentions, he put it into Skid and Pump’s minds that the way they are now would cause their parents to not love them when it reality, they are (or should be) loved as they are. And then there’s the whole commentary on priests taking in children and (kinda indoctrinating) them at a young age. I can’t blame some of the towns folk for being skeptical about Father Gregor following Skid and Pump cus….it looks weird lol. And of course then there’s the SLIGHT demonization of Halloween with that comment on Skid and Pump’s costumes. So overall, while not a completely terrible person, Father Gregor does still has flaws but I think that makes him a really solid character.

I personally think flawed characters are indefinitely more interesting than ones without any major flaws. Father Gregor was raised in a different environment and comes from an older different generation of people, so his view on the world is going to differ heavily from others. He's got strengths in some areas and flaws in others, which makes him feel very believable! My grandfather was a Catholic Bishop before he passed and it was always interesting hearing how he viewed the world. While obviously not a 1:1 Father Gregor still reminds me of him at times, especially when he tried to give advice for Skid and Pump at the start.

I really love how badass Father Gregor is. He really tried to get Skid and Pump to Not Be a Danger to Society for an episode, and make them apologise to the people they already bothered. I mean like, the guy saw a person, literally possessed by a freaking demon. Didn't panic, layed out the priorities - first get the children out of there. He even made sure that the kiddos would be safe with the police officers while he is gone. After that without any hesitation the man went right back in to the demon and started fighting it, not letting it speak nor do anything while he gets it out of the girl's body. Because the two dummies came back he really made sure to protect them, so they don't get hurt and the demon doesn't get to them. After Moloch literally broke through a wall and escaped, the guy with the same nonchalance went out Chasing him around town with no regard for his own safety, only for the safety of people around him. He was able to stay calm even when the demon babies bit him Multiple times in the leg, and made sure to get the demon out of them. And after all that, with a wounded leg he still chased Moloch into the attic and banished it from this world. He's like literally The most heroic person in the entire show.
@chrimsonphantom7 ай бұрын
Also I believe Father Gregor is relatively new in town which is why most of the residents don't recognize him. The town probably needed someone like Father Gregor in town, which is probably why the cult took him out. The mayor probably hired the two hobos to destroy the church after kidnapping Gregor. To also really add to what you said, Father Gregor after getting rid of Moloch didn't stick around to get praise, he went straight back to the church to heal himself up. As he probably figured his work in town was just starting.

I love Pump constantly knowing more about demons than Skid but only when his eyes are teal due to influence from The Eyes of the Universe and only in the context of how Pump would normally interpret information. He’s not “more knowledgeable” or “all-knowing”, he’s being shown everything and interpreting it himself. Like, Pump knows Moloch didn’t escape, and he looks over at Skid happily when he says they brought Moloch here, but he then he looks confused or annoyed or sorta judgemental (I am not good at judging facial expressions in the slightest. Especially because his head is a pumpkin) as if he’s assuming Skid also knows this stuff.
@Dip-Star-14897 ай бұрын
Hold on, considering how the Eyes of the Universe seems to allow people to identify demons and turn their eyes blue, what qualifies the power to identify them? Like, we see the Hatzgang’s reaction being similar to Pump’s, yet why don’t they have this skill set in later episodes? And how come Skid doesn’t have this ability either?
@username51557 ай бұрын
@@Dip-Star-1489 Well, when they first meet Eyes, Skid is acting normal, meanwhile Pump is very visibly shaking and terrified, not speaking up until Eyes mentions “showing them the end”, when Pump interupts to ask if he means Spooky Month. Eyes then of course gets distracted by it being Spooky Month because ealier episodes showcased Spooky Month being something everyone did just like Skid and Pump until later episodes zoomed out a lot from Skid and Pump’s perspectives and showed more of the whole world rather than just them. This to me implies either Skid did something in the past that makes him immune or that Pump did something to make him different. That being said, only like 2 characters have successfully scared Skid and Pump, so it is quite notable that Skid seemed to have no reaction to Eyes where as Pump had a much stronger reaction to Eyes than most other characters so far. In this episode, we see Pump’s eyes visibly change when around Moloch because he knows at a glance that it’s Moloch. At 14:33, we can see Pump’s eyes are normal. Then, as soon as he sees Moloch, his eyes turn teal. As soon as he’s escorted out of the room by Father Gregor, his eyes turn normal again. When he comes back into the room with Moloch, his eyes turn teal again. They KNOW Moloch. They KNOW what he is. Everyone else seems to not treat Moloch like a real demon. The Hatzgang seem to not KNOW what Moloch is. Ross and Robert seem at least SCARED of Moloch, but at the same time it’s not like they see him as an actual demon, it’s on the same level of fear as when they met Bob. Edit: Also, Pump says Eyes showed HIM the stars, not THEM, so only Pump saw whatever Eyes wanted to show them. Edit 2: Also, I just remembered Pump’s eyes also turn teal in Spooky Month 5 right after Bob dies for the first time. On top of that, Bob’s eyes turn teal right before he gets shot, and they stay like that for the rest of the episode. Edit 3: Just remembered Pump’s eyes ALSO turn teal when he’s hiding under Susie’s bed to scare her, assuming that WAS genuinely just Pump pranking her and not something more sinister. I… don’t know to feel about that. Edit 4: I just remembered only Pump could see that Moloch was possessing Dexter, and how Skid didn’t believe him because Moloch wouldn’t pick a host so lame and not red. He was also the only one who figured out that Happy Fella was possessed, although I don’t think he ever mentions Dexter as the possessor specifically. Edit 5 (Man that’s a lot of Edits): I also just wanna point out that in this episode, when heading to the church and trying to guess what’s inside, Skid guesses a ghost and turns into a ghost, Pump guesses a hanged corpse and pulls out a noose and hangs himself, nothing out of the usual. Pump has teleported and they have both come back from the dead before. Skid then guesses it’s a cult, putting on a very normal looking robe that isn’t at all close to the real cult robes, imlying he knows nothing about them. Pump then guesses it’s Eyes. He doesn’t transform. This is concerning.

just watched the entire series for the first time in 4 hours and holy, what a turn from the first 3 episodes where it was just a goofy show filled with jokes and laughs, but this has evolved into a pretty emotional show, actually shed a tear for Skid and Pump's personal problems, they're just kids that don't know the dangers of the world they live in, they don't deserve the hate they get, and i actually like the Priest, he was a real scene taker, this series is probably one of the best shows i've ever watched, and i don't watch much shows till the end.

Shocked by how layered and interesting Priest Gregor is. While he's definitely uptight and firm in his views, he genuinely does want the best for the people in this town. He's also pretty fair in his beliefs, since as much as he disciplines the children to behave, he's just as quick to defend them from being mistreated or even harmed. As harsh as he was scolding Lila, he isn't entirely in the wrong since he witnessed what happened, and is only giving his honest perspective of what's going on.
