Whenever I have any sports injury issue (which is quite often as I run regularly), Maryke is always my first reference as she explains everything in detail and provide the most up-to-date information with all the science behind it. Just about a week ago I ran a half-marathon and I hurt my hamstring, and after seeing this excellent video, at least I know what to do and what not to do during the first couple of weeks before getting back on track. So, thank you very much once again! 🙏🏽

Ive been a futbol player my whole life. I decided to get into heavy body building because I decided that I wanted to increase my muscle mass. I am 26 years old 167 pounds. It was very difficult to incorporate leg day and having games 2-3 times a week. I was hitting legs Tuesday’s and playing Wednesdays and Thursdays which was a HUGE mistake. Eventually my hamstring on my left leg gave out and did not listen to my body. I abused my legs and I paid a price! I’ve never had a hamstring injury my whole life. Thanks to this video I’m on speedy recovery…thank you so much!!!!

This video is piece of great knowledge for fitness sports and other such people. For me this is the best knowledge video ever explained so simple and understandable. 3 week ago had a hamstring pull on my left during performing a kick in air and ended up with a bad pull. Didn’t know what stage I was but now I know that was the grace zero. Am so bloody amazed that you spoke of exactly what I went through. Am astonished how could one know the symptoms of pain and and without experiencing it. Am shocked. Studying to b a physiotherapist is understandable but knowing the pain and the feelings going on in the head of the patient is another great thing. Thank you for this great lesson. Will share this video as much. Hope to meet u one day. Thank you.

Amazing information. I have a decent understanding of grade 1 hamstring injuries and so was rehabbing my original injury with some good success. But after some life events, it reinjured, got very weak, and has been reinjuring constantly before I can even have a chance to rehab it. I think it’s gone from grade 1 to 2 and I believe the weakness is coming from tightness in my core/pelvis. I am a driver who must sit for several hours, so the tightness makes sense, plus I’ve been neglecting working out most of my body as I’ve been waiting for my hamstring to improve. I realize now I must get back to stretching and working out my core more. As well as taking more walking breaks during my drive times. This has been tremendous.

Very clear and concise video. I'm now glad I haven't did a lot with my Grade 0 - 1 hamstring pull. I've pulled my hamstring in college before, and that legit took about 4 weeks to heal. That 1st week was absolutely brutal, with me still having to walk to classes. More than likely a Grade 2 pull or tear. This seemed to be similar, but feels much better on Day 2, without me having to take any pain pills. Hopefully within the next 3 - 5 days, I'll be over this. It does hurt whenever I stretch it out inadvertently.

I've been suffering from terrible hamstring pain post my Spine fusion surgery. I don't know how it all started but sitting on a chair even for few minutes or driving in high raised seater car gives me a sharp pain, it's so painful that I can't stop whining till I reach home and crash on the floor stretched. This video really helped me understand the type of injury I may have had because all these months I had no clue what was going on under thighs and the doctors here just prescribe a muscle relaxant which does help for a few days but the pain slowly develops while I start my regular activity. Any advice will be of great help 🙏🏼😢

In your case, you won't have a hamstring tear or strain because those can only happen by doing activities. It is more likely that it is either the high hamstring tendons that are irritated and causing the hamstrings to hurt or actually irritation from your lower back causing pain to refer into your hamstrings. A physiotherapist should be able to assess this for you and provide you with exercises to help alleviate it. It might also help if you get into the habit of taking regular active breaks at work e.g. walk up and down stairs or something every hour to improve circulation. Being generally more active e.g. 20min walk in morning and 20min walk in afternoon can also make a big difference.

What treatment options did you take with it? I just performed the test and almost immediately the stretching sensation ceded once I lifted my head. I want to know how I can go about treating neural tension now with my hamstring strain

I’m looking for the same information on how to work with neural tension. Is it just that we should be stretching our glutes and lower backs while strengthening our core and pelvis?
