Most of the figure skaters whom we know today had endured a lot of pains behind the scene, so much so that fans always forget about it. We just wanna make this video to pay tribute to all the hardworking figure skaters, and hopefully their stories will inspire us to never give up on our dreams too 💓

Mao was such a strong fighter, not just a skater. She always delievered and fought so hard throughout her career, even in the face of adversity. Her 2010 Olympic season was so hard for her as her mother was ill and she couldn't consistently train with Tarasova as she had to stay with the mother. But she still delivered such a technically strong performance. Her two triple axels in the free were to make up for her lack of a triple triple or triple lutz. So much more technically difficult but the points weren't there. If the system then was the same as the rules now, she would have won Vancouver. Not to mention, following, her mother died, which would have put such a massive strain on her mentally, dealing with grief, yet she continued to work on changing her technique. Finally successfully being able to land a true triple lutz with outside edge at the final competition of her career. She kept the triple axel, and got it back to the level of the past even though she had gone through her growth where most skaters lose their jump consistency. And the night in Sochi was even more amazing. Maybe even one of the greatest moments in the Winter Olympics of figure skating. Her mental strength to continue to deliver a clean skate after that terrible short program. Landing the triple axel for the first time that season and delivering a clean program. Her step sequence was divine, the program always brought tears to my eyes. Mao went through so much and fought hard and came out so beautifully. A beautiful skater and a super tough fighter at the same time. Her personality is so kind and lovely, a gentle soul, a genuinly nice person. My favourite skater. What a queen. A goddess, a swan and a magnificent skater on ice.

I am still so salty and angry for Sochi Oly, for treating Yuna, Mao, and Carolina so unjustly. Specifically for this video, for giving Mao that FS score after a superb comeback performance and giving Carolina 3rd place (which should be 2nd). Aljona is such a force, just for having the will power and discipline to compete in 5 Olympic alone. Props for that. This is why longevity is important. We love athletes who last because we can know them better and see them grow over time.
@FigureSkatingFan3 жыл бұрын
Yes among all, my heart feels extremely painful for Mao's incredibly low score for that incredible performance. I felt Yuna and Carolina was scored correctly but they overscored *Cough cough*we all know who.. Mao was really really underscored! I really thought she would get like 155-160 after that performance. I felt that injustice after watching her live and still feel the same especially seeing how they score other Russians who do 3A.. Think about this, Alena Kostornaia scored 162.14 for a similar program as Mao Asada in GPF 2019.. Sure there's a change of the GOE from +5-5 but still..
@yohanes20343 жыл бұрын
@@FigureSkatingFan judges and TP were very strict to Mao that night. They called every nooks and cranny things that they could find. The PCS they gave was also criminal... in the 8s for that performance... I was so moved watching that and was so sure that she would be getting 155 at least. But nope, judges were like not gonna happen in Sochi.

Nathan's comeback: it isn't merely a comeback story of events that ended at the Pyeongchang Olympics but a comeback story that is _still_ unfolding. The disastrous SP set up that unbelievable free skate...and that was the start of his dominance. He has been undefeated since. Because of his SP performance at the Olympics, the haters said he was "overhyped" even though he'd seriously had a chance at gold. He grew so much from his mistake(which was very much a mental one) and has worked so hard to improve himself even more. 4 years later and he's now a 3X world champion(would probably be his 4th title if Covid hadn't happened), and he's primed to get back to the Olympics to finally win that gold. His comeback story hasn't ended yet, and I absolutely love it!

Mao is extremely stubborn and hard on herself, which is hard to imagine from her kind face. Coach Tarasova thought the song "Prelude in C-sharp minor" was a burden for Mao and tried to change the song, but she refused. She had decided she wanted to compete the Olympic season with this song. It was impossible to make her give up once she decided, and I believe she thought that conquering that song was more important than winning the Olympic gold medal. Mao cried at the Olympics because she made a mistake on a jump, not because she lost to someone else or didn't win a gold medal. When she failed in Sochi, she told Coach Sato to give up 3A to make sure she could get points, but she refused to do so. And she is the first female single competitor to attempt 6 different triple jumps!
