By that time Cowboys fans just expected us to get to the Super Bowl every single year...But 74' was a bit of a set back and a let down, I think we went 8-6, after a lot of tough games, tough losses, and tight wins that year...We were good, good team that wasn't quite there yet, a bit of a rebuilding season, a season of transition for us....But there was much promise for the future, you could see it was coming together...We went to the Super Bowl the next year!!!

The Thanksgiving day classic was the best game ever.

A month later after the Thanksgiving game, Duane Thomas would rush for over 100 yards in a season-ending 42-0 blowout of the Bears on a Saturday, the game that officially eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs before their Saturday night encounter with the Raiders. And that was the last NFL game Thomas ever played. It doesn't seem the Skins took him to LA for their divisional playoff game. In 1975, he was rather delusional asking the Redskins for a pay bump from $60,000 to $165,000 and George Allen released him. True to his rebellious form, Thomas kept showing up for practise with the team for a few days before the message sunk in. He then flamed out in the WFL, then failed to land with the Cowboys again in 1976, and got cut by both the CFL's BC Lions and the Green Bay Packers.

What sucked about this season was that Dallas looked so strong on both sides of the ball in the opening day shutout of Atlanta, 24-0. Absolutely nothing in that game hinted at the four game losing streak to come, particularly those stinkaroo offensive efforts against the Eagles and Giants. Both NY and Philly looked like teams going somewhere in those early wins, but IIRC, both fell off a cliff the rest of the season. A rare highlight for Dallas was reversing all four losses to their division opponents in the rematches in 1974, including wins over playoff-bound St. Louis and Washington.

Definitely a "Champion in Waiting." After 1974's "mediocre" season they lost Calvin Hill, Bob Lilly, Walt Garrison, Cornell Green and Bob Hayes. But then they had one of their best draft classes ever with the Dirty Dozen and won the nfc in 1975, and went to 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

They sucked that season and ironic thing is the Cowboys’ schedule was garbage. They didn’t play any great teams except for Minnesota and Oakland. I don’t think STL or WAS were that much better than average. Did Landry drop a lot of players between ‘74 and ‘75? Looks like they revamped the offense, at least at RB.
