Fail is also hunting, and surprisingly not the worst part of it. It educates the enthusiasts we are to understand wildlife ever more and appreciate when it tells us : “Take this lesson, son”.

@@Thekindclub1 I'm a retired federal wildlife manager and a subsistence hunter. I hunt and live on my hunting land. Steve's internal monologs are why i came. I'm not interested in the commercialized trophy type hunting. Harvest it and eat it; be happy and proud to have it.

You used to get 12 episodes of Steve. Now you get 12 episodes of Steve and dozens of others. No one is forcing you to watch. Watch what you like, don’t watch what you don’t like. Very simple.

People hating but it’s easy to sit here as someone who has never hunted in front of a film crew and throw stones (pun intended). Yea, maybe not the most exciting hunting video but it’s honest and it’s raw. I’d take this over any highly edited hunting video that edits out the low points. Meateater has become popular from their honesty. They show the good hunts. The bad hunts. The good moves. And the mistakes. Hate on this guy all you want but it takes a lot of courage to share something like this. I appreciate this fella for sharing this experience with us.

The buck definitely heard all 14 rocks. Even though he didn’t stand up it put him on edge and the moment he spotted you he bolted. If he wasn’t alerted from the rocks and he spotted you he would’ve hesitated and could’ve gave you an opportunity.

I went on my first spot and stalk this year on public after a 4 pointer(its all you cant hunt on my unit) got with in 90 yards and spooked them. But it was so exhilarating. I learned a lot about what to do and what no to do. Videos like this have helped me so much and now I can get on deer. I've been on 3 different stalks this year with no success but every time i learn so much. I am a brand new hunter with no one to guide me. I have just always have a love of the outdoors. I am screaming at you and myself to just have patience. You had it. You could have sat down and had that buck.
@jakewatts334117 күн бұрын
So many people on here crushing over Steve, he's great and all but so are so many other great meateater members. Unless you only want 3 videos a year shut up and enjoy it or go watch Steve's trapping video for the 3rd time.

@roger532217 күн бұрын
And that is why he got to the size he is now. And your going home with an empty cooler. You had him, all you needed was the patience to let things develop naturally. Sooner or later he would have stood up all relaxed, rested, and broadside. I kinda guessed what was going to happen. Even after 5 or 10 minutes standing there your breathing was to heavy. You needed to calm down and wait and he would have been yours. He felt safe where he was but knew something was out there. If i stay put it may just walk on by. If i stand up. I'm busted. that's what he was thinking . And you put him on high alert.

That buck is blind in his right eye. He was well within the buck's angle of sight, but the buck couldn't see him. Pushing a bad situation is rarely the best way to make something happen. It was early-ish in the day, sun would have cleared the ridge at some point in the near future with the likely result being the buck stands up to change position, get a drink, try to find a doe to bang. But no, let's push a bad situation and watch the buck bound away.
@TheMightyMurse191717 күн бұрын
Cool video, great learning experience. Out of curiosity, aside from the wind swirling on you, was there a pressing reason why you couldn't have waited him out?

Im a big fan of Steve but this video and hunt was truly an epic fail of greastest proportions. A true disappointment to all us spot and stalk hunters. A real hunter would have waited hours for that buck to stand up from his bed to get a shot. Throwing rocks?????? Dumbest hunting move EVER. Why would you post this on your channel? maybe on what not to do. If you really wanna see a true spot and stock deer hunt Steve, come with me and my son on our January mule deer hunt. This video and THE ELEMENT was an epic fail.
