Best best info ... don't forget about us little fans that were here in the beginning as your channel EXPLODES into huge money. You do a superb job on all of them and the sound and info and everything

Absolutely the info I needed! Many thanks. I had one company tell me that the Tyvek had to go, and the company tell me that there is no problem (along with your 'taut' advice) and that after 15 years they've never had a call back for that particular issue. Thank you for clearing the air. I plan to go back more staples to REALLY secure that Tyvek well, looking for any pockets/ripples/looseness. Thank you for adding solid info to the community knowledge base.

I'll bet the asphalt impregnated fiber boards we used to use would be a great underlayment. Real cheap, easy to cut and probably could be installed as fast as tightly installed house wrap. Would probably withstand damage to the metal sheathing thereby making most repairs faster, cheaper and easier.
@SinnisjInsulator3 жыл бұрын
Tyvek is do-able but certainly difficult to work with. Must be tightly installed or you will have air voids because of bubbling. Well explained Mike.

My pole barn home in SC was wrapped with Solargaurd silvercote. It’s tight and on the ceiling and walls. Will I be fine to spray foam it? If so should I do closed cell or open?
@deronthomas79043 жыл бұрын
I suppose that you can just wrap where the wainscot is going to be. Since that's where it's most likely to get damaged.

Richard L here. I am preparing to Spray Foam my Post Frame House. Your Channel is a huge blessing. My frame did get a Tyvek type House Wrap, including the roof. Should I consider some way to support the House Wrap between the Roof Trusses? Trusses are 4’ centered with 2’ centered Purlins. It seems to have been put on tightly, but your advice to not have Spray Foam put on the underneath of a roof with House Wrap has me concerned.

Walls are not as bad as the roof. Watch more videos in the metal building playlist to learn more.

If you answer Erica Linton's Q about self applied foam kits, please outline a syllabus for somebody you give the keys to a company truck and trailer worth $100 K, US. I think it would go far to explain labor costs and what they accomplish. Nice piece, answered some of my "barndo" Q's. Thanks! FR

On the perlins does make sense to add a thermal break tape between the wood and steel before spraying?
@stcharleshometheater3 жыл бұрын
You say, open cell spray foam shouldn't get wet, ideally if it's done correctly it should never get wet, right? By the way I love your videos, keep up the good work!! 👍
@SprayJones3 жыл бұрын
People do stupid things and place open cell foam in situations where is will get wet. You are correct it is designed to be in dry spaces.

I do have a couple questions regarding barndominium construction. if a panel were to get damaged on the outside without a membrane (tyvek), and there is a kitchen on the interior, how would you go about repairing the foam after removing the panel? do you have to be able to have access on the interior to reapply foam? Do you recommend a diy kit? I see some great looking 2lb closed cell kits on ebay with the air gun. I do have some experience spraying paint and several 600 board ft foam kits. Thanks again! great videos!!
@SprayJones3 жыл бұрын
The repair would happen from the exterior. Small foam kits are meant for touch ups, not spraying a huge project.

How often do you see the metal buckling from heat when the foam is sprayed directly to it? With Dark colors?

Am I correct to say you prefer closed cell direct to metal? A house wrap is acceptable if it's tight. Without a wrap and using closed cell, what are your thoughts about the air gap behind the 2x6 horizontal board where the meet the ribs of the metal?

I try to be as straight forward as I can... I thought I answered all that.

Seems like building wrap would be a good vapor barrier between metal siding and wood purlins (horizontal nailers)? Thoughts?
@SprayJones8 ай бұрын
It isn't. Vapor barriers are to go on the warm side. For 90% of the population that means internal.

can I spray on felt/tar paper or should I remove it and spray directly on the brick?

Most foam manufacturers (especially Carlisle) I have used do not recommend direct spray to wrap, tyvek, interesting.

You have to know WHY they say that and the total context. Tyvek is not an approved substrate on its own with no supporting structure.

I have 29ga walls, what’s the chance 2” closed cell foam will cause the metal to “oil can” or buckle?

Gee why even spend the money for material and labor for wrap, just use closed cell foam?? The foam could vastly increase the building structural integrity when applied directly to posts, beams and metal siding melding them in one cohesive structure.

Perhaps I can pick your brain on the best methods to bridge the systems if I plan to spay foam under the slab and how it is incorporated into the vertical wall sections.
