Honestly this is such a great video. Pleasure to see Fabio teaching a technique in such high quality with good sound, and really nice to see the relationship between Fabio & Bernardo.

For no gi - without the grip on the collar, is this something where the guy on the bottom will just inch their way out for a back take ?

Maybe use a wrist to wrist grip in the initial setup? Still won’t be as good but probably will work, even a gable grip. I really don’t know but maybe?

If I remember correctly Gordon Ryan shows a No-Gi variation where he grips the far trap with that nearside underhook. I've used this in both Gi and No-Gi successfully and even when unsuccessful in passing while utilizing a near side underhook, I felt no threat of any micro adjustments that could lead to a sneaky back take.

@@Gorillatag692 maybe just combine a near side underhook on the near side with a tight wizzer on the far side ? Tight wizzes prevent back takes

@@hermixtonen if you feel the need to control the far side arm, personally I would recommend a far side underhook as well so essentially turning it into a double underhook pass which can allow you to pass in multiple directions. You are correct though a good whizzer can prevent a potential back take.

For no gi, most times you can just look for the next best place to hook your hand in the absence of a collar. Curling your hand around the neck, trap, Lat, shoulder, or hip can usually lock a grip in just fine. You have to make sure you’re using your body to drive pressure into the hold, but they work great even without a collar. Most times you just have to transitions little faster. The collar and sleeves allow you to grab something and hold it for longer periods of time. There are a lot of over hook, underhook, tight waist, and claw grips that work just as well though.
